The New Statesman's political corresepondent, Freddie Hayward, was in Brussels to cover the latest National Conservative conference, and was one of the first to report from the scene when police attempted to shut the event down on the orders of the local mayor.
Freddie tells Anoosh Chakelian and Rachel Cunliffe that the Mayor's decision provided Nigel Farage and the hard right attendees including Victor Orban and Eric Zemmour with perfect ammunition to make their case that the EU is trying to censor free speech.
