*qualified rugby ref* I used a similar line when I got a bit of cheek. I asked the player if he was a referee, he very quietly said ‘no’, I replied saying ‘ok, once you are then you can question my decision’. The other team heard this and found found funny (as did I but couldn’t show it)

My favourite Nigel Owen's moment. Bledisloe test at Eden Park in Auckland where he made Bernard Foley retreat when he went to take a free kick and said, "if you are going to cheat, cheat fairly. I am happy to give you a couple of yards but not twenty..."

I understand what you mean. Many years ago, in my playing days our usual home referee addressed both sides on the centre line before the start. His message was short and easily understood by all. 'Obey the laws, obey me'.

Hey you gotta give Rasta Rasivhenge (I think that how you spell his last name) and Jonathan Kaplan props. South Africa's put out some good refs too. Granted not a character like Nigel Owens but still serving rugby with a decent standard.

Chloe-Ane Wragg - there's lots of good, quality refs out there. Several I recognize by name. Kaplan undoubtedly on that list! Can't say I recognize Rasta's name. But, one of the things that drew me to rugby was the quality of the refs, and the respect they command. What I like about Nigel is his way of injecting humor (or acidity, depending on which end of it one happens to be!) with fairness and consistency. He slaps 'em all down! I know he's been accused of playing faves, but, I don't see it! Would love to see more like him, and Kaplan. Though different styles, they're both awesome!

If you guys didn't know this ref is gay and one of the game he ref between Aus vs all blacks at a line out the Aussie captain threw the ball in and the ref said it wasn't straight and the Aussie captain ask are you sure ref it looked straight to me and he responded nope even I'm straighter then that ball.

Incredible im a fan of soccer and i think they should take example, not only he makes everybody calm down but he forces players to play their best for the spectacle so the public (the ones most important in a game of sport) can have for their money

Missed my favourite one - can't remember who was playing but there was a poorly timed tackle, the player tackled rolled around on the ground trying to make the most of it. Nigel called them both over - to the poor tackler he said, 'Another tackle like that and you'll be off the pitch'. He turned to the other player and said, 'another reaction like that and I'm sending you to RADA'.
