Totally agree with you and think mainly of South Africa where most of the cities, mountains, rivers and even gold mines still bear European names Wake Up brothers and sisters
That is a wonderful move, and as we start to notice changes, it is just one of the signs of responsibilities we were born to change in our lifetime as contributions to our beloved countries.
South Africa and Namibia most of the cities are apartheid regime names. The streets still have colonial names. This shows clearly that we're still under the apartheid regime. Colonial names have dominated us so much. We need to do something.
Magnificent news and great video too! One of the more embarrassing country names I think has to be Ivory Coast or "Cote de Ivoire". How can you have your country named by the European after the commodity that that European extracted from your land? Does anyone else think it's blatantly insulting? A country's name should reflect and honor it's people or maybe to honor the natural beauty of the land, but Ivory Coast doesn't honor people or nature, it honors the only thing invaders care about, the minerals! It perfectly encapsulates what Africa is to them, just a place from which to take everything they can and leave nothing to the natives.
Shame on my country, Cape Verde, I remember back then my parent told me that, once one of our area was named Bairro Kwame Nkrumah, and after political changes, so called democracy, they renamed it as Bairro Craveiro Lopes, after their colonial master! And till this day the majority of the street, parks etc still have their colonial names. 😖
The ironic thing is Biblical names, like John, James, Michael, etc. that the Europeans love to claim and use, are all names of African descent. But the colonizers, invaders, and culture vultures have tried to erase that knowledge. I do agree that it's good though, to also promote and preserve local identity.
I do not entirely agree with the removal of certain statues off the colonial Bandits and state the true history of these Colonial oppressors so that visitors will be appropriately educated as to the brutal rule off the colonist noting that you cannot erase what is true
What is your own name? Ibrahim, Thomas, Isidiore and so many respected figures we have in Africa doesn't bear names that are native to Africa!. Here in the diaspora, I find it very upsetting that 'some people' would ask me to translate my name to English or shorten it so that they will be able to say it 😡!!! But they won't say that to another person from a different race that's probably got up to 10 consonants and no vowels in their names! 😒🤦. So what do I do, I tell them to take it 3 letters at a time😊(when I'm in a good mood)... My name is very precious, beautiful, meaningful and important, so don't murder it! 😊.
Why are you saying " Kings & Queens" why not African brothers & sisters. Are you talking to the people or to YOUR KINGS & QUEENS ! It became boring to lyssen to you !
