Ethiopia just applied to join BRICS few months ago but they're admitted but Nigeria applied years back but not admitted because Nigeria cannot be trusted.
Buhari was in a UK hospital for the best part of 1 year; Tinubu takes direct political order directly from London, Paris and Washington DC. The planned military intervention into the Niger Republic was the final straw where Nigeria stands as an independent failed state. Nigeria stupidly voted against Russia when the country should have abstained
We are our own Problems. Selfishness, tribalism, unpatriotic politics, continues to bedevil the nation . Until a selfless leader arises , greatness will remain elusive.
Nigeria doesn't have national interest neither foreign interest that's why America and Europe now fully control Nigerian foreign policies and Nigerian military.
DR. I'm with you 100%, Nigeria 🇳🇬 should be proactive for Africa 🌍 in matters like this than trying to be loyal to former colonizers. Dr. I'm South African but Pan-Africanist first, Nigeria should have a louder voice for Africa 🌍 in a world 🌎 stage
It shames me to admit that our leaders are too corrupt in Nigeria to be as proactive as we expect. They are puppets to the westerners and they westerners have one on them 😢
When some of our leaders are grossly compromised and are nothing but stooges of the west apart from being selfish and greedy in themselves, they find what you are advocating difficult. Remember they will do the bidding of their western masters. IMF and co is probably livid in their hatred of BRICS idea, same with anything Pan-Africanism
Shocking news Nigeria is competing with south Africa I swear After drag insult south African About white people we are nothing without them Now they want to work with white guy Mr Putin
You must be a baby in international affairs not to know that all countries in the BRICS are failed countries. From Russia to Pakistan- India and some of these dubious Arabs Countries. Brics are not going to replaced the dolarisation of the world economies. It would be an option for those countries who are willing join. Dollar still remains the most favorable currency in international market.
@@jabulani76christophergood question. Just like the Nigerian leaders and ambassadors who display their idiocy to the whole world, you can see his unintelligent reaction, without trying to address the initial comment. Nigeria, a stain on the black race 😏
You are the kind of people that Nigeria should get rid of before it can progress. You neither have the knowledge of the history nor that of the current reality. Perhaps you are blinded by your self made internal hatred.
South Africa has reasonably complete hegemony in its region with a consistent foreign policy outlook and involvment. They're an attractive prospect for BRICS. Nigeria has difficulty defining a coherent foreign policy, barely able to impose herself as the hegemon of her region...I mean just look at France ordering Nigeria around and trying to have them fight a proxy war. Nigeria in this instance is strong enough to say No to france and withstand any consequence.
@G-hg2im why should any country impose anything on another. You can't be running from US hegemony while at the same time talking of imposing hegemony on others around you
I heard the president of SA saying … “we in Africa..& Africa… He was so inclusive so if Nigeria want to be Nigeria & all us African countries will leave you with your guilt… you were suppose to be in the fore front… you are many close to 100 million… you are the most educated
Nigeria was deliberately left out despite its potential to allow it to clean itself because right now it is very toxic. It is easy to admit a small toxic country into BRICS and encourage it to shape up. However, to admit a toxic "giant" like Nigeria is risky as Nigeria may end up contaminating the entire BRICS Plus. If anything Nigeria should be encouraged to clean itself up.
Kenya 🇰🇪 deserves a more than Nigeria but still they were other better countries for brics to pick ..so Nigeria shouldn't blame us(🇿🇦) for their own incompetence..change the government or at least hold them accountable like what the south Africans do to ANC and things will work
Bullshit excuse. If there's any nation that holds their leaders responsibility it's Nigeria. We don't blame our ex colonizers for our problems like u blame the apartheid for ur leaders failures😂😊
The impression I get its that some people wait for others to take the risk whilst they hiding behind others. But when its safe they want to suddenly become vocal.
Countries sitting at the table of BRICS are countries free of the colonial mindset and believe in equal, respectful, fair and peaceful relationships. Nobody is looking for dominance over another, unlike the colonial mindset where one must fight for dominance and then once they achieve it seek to freely exploit, bully and disrespect others as their reward. Nigeria and even Ghana are unfortunately struggling to free themselves from this colonial mindset of aspiration and this comes from their leadership that too often do not serve the interest of the people and so are too easily manipulated by former colonial powers and their friends, for selfish reasons or because they see no hope for things changing for Nigeria or the African continent under the exploitation of former colonial powers and their friends, and so only look out for themselves. The man speaking as a guest in this interview is the kind of man Nigeria would need as a leader to shape and lead Nigeria into being ready to join BRICS and successfully joining BRICS, but he appears only as a guest on political shows, not on the ballot for the leadership of the country. Peace and love
Russia is certainly not 'free' from a colonial mindset. It continually invades other countries to take their territory away from them. They aren't doing it African nations at the moment....but that could change. Not saying it sould be Putin, but I could see Russia federation little by little in the future trying it. Right now they are trying to force Ukraine back into the fold. Eventually they will win. When they do, it will be Georgia next, as they are currently occupying that country. I think India to be the most trustworthy country among the bunch. At least they don't murder their own people. At least not that Im aware of.
South Africa would love to have Nigeria in Brics. We do not see Nigeria as a rival, yet Nigeria seems to regard us as its rival. I'm not privy to the inner workings of Brics & I cannot talk for them. I'm a civilian. If Nigeria did make a formal application to join Brics & was not considered, my take is that the current legal issues surrounding President Tinubu could have played a major part in that decision. Its about time Nigeria stopped thinking of itself as THE LEADER of Africa. A large population does not, of itself, bestow the honour of leadership to any country. No country has the right to regard itself as the leader of our continent.
Rivalry! What is wrong in rivalry? I wouldn't want us to join BRICS anymore because they have shown us they have animosity for us. It is better to steer clear of the group.
@@youme1414Whether you want or not, nobody is going to admit a western puppet to collapse from the inside out a new organization formed to stand against the west. Sorry but no thanks 😢😢😢 Maybe Nigeria should try and join NATO where it rightly fits given its actions in Niger😅😅😅
Unitary Nigeria lacks the critical threshold of internal cohesion to propel itself towards any clear direction or pathway that may lead it into First-Tier, Second-Tier or even Third-Tier Membership. Those who do not yet realize the implications and Deleterious Effects of the Union Disputations raging in Nigeria will do well to pay attention, with a view to determining the nexus BETWEEN the Multifaceted Dysfunctions of Nigeria AND Nigeria’s perennial inability to put its acts together in the International Circuit. The NINAS Union Reconfiguration Propositions represents the most viable mechanism for addressing the debilitating and unresolved Internal Contradictions of Nigeria driving those Dysfunctions.
Am from South Africa 🇿🇦 yes we are the leading in the continent, if you think South Africa is in BRICS by mistake why are we in G20 not as organisation but have our own permanent member? We are small in terms of numbers but we significant, if we had numbers like Nigeria we could be in G7.
There are certain requirements to qualify joining BRICS. Nigeria should first and foremost fix the multiple socioeconomic internal problems first and to disengage from the severe disadvantages of western interference and bending to their dictates. We are fully able to succeed with the right type of seriously focused leadership without corruption and selfish aggrandizement.
Is this guy suggesting that SA is gatekeeping BRICS membership? How? BRICS is comprised of 5 countries who unanimously decide on who joins and who doesn't based on a set criteria. Nigeria clearly didn't make the cut unfortunately, but so did other countries and they didn't complain , so I don't understand why this is viewed as a personal attack on Nigeria it doesn't make sense at all.
Entry lnto the BRICS is by mutual agreement, meaning all five current members have to agree on all applicants. The fact that Nigeria is not in Brics means all other four counteries (excluding SA) did ntthink it was time yet fo Nigeria. This issue of Nigeria acting like the representative of the West in West Africa may not bode well with rhe BRICS especially Russia and China.
'' Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, Against the man who is My companion. " Says the LORD of hosts. " Strike the shepherd. And the sheep will be scattered :Then I will turn My hand against the little ones. Zechariah 13 :7. " Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Oh God, may Your hand be for the African leaders good goals, which is for the interest of your children, the African. That they are delivered from from those enemies who impoverished Africa to be as she is to this day.
Very very true words, they need us more than we need them. We should be the ones sanctioning them. But they found a way to manipulate currency when everyone wasn't paying attention.
How can Nigeria be invited to join brics when the government cannot conduct a free and fair election by this age . We shall know when she is ready. Let charity begin at-home first, it terms of governance.
May need to step by step, becasue the West is not happy for bricks expansions, bricks may have a role to change or affect some issues, not know how it works properly, so may keep on adjustment to improve the bricks first. Once set a good base, more countries can join
Nigerians will always be in pain because they compete with South Africa in everything while south africa is not in competition with them and SA keeps on doing better so theyll always cry 😂😂😂

This interviewee is strange. South Africa never applied to be part of BRICS but was part of its formation. We decided years ago to partner with said nations and it came with many threats and consequences. It takes years for nations to develop relationships. For SA, these things were done during the Apartheid years. The PAC and ANC during Apartheid years had people planning and working on the economic prospects of the country. Even back then, SA knew we could not depend on western countries because many of them supported the Apartheid government. South Africa, as a co-founder, is not the reason Nigeria is not part of BRICS. Nigeria wants to play both sides unfortunately, that is not part of the BRICS nations agenda.

BRICS membership is not decided by SA, but it is a collective decision by all the BRICS members. Nigeria being excluded has nothing to do with SA, please go back and ask why you're not included.
They blame us for everything.Even President Putin commended Ramaphosa for being good at diplomatic negotiating which means he fought very hard for Egypt and Ethiopia but we don't know why they didn't accept Nigeria.
@@sthe_zar6341 Ramaphosa is jealous of Nigerian population and towering strength in the future in Africa. He is scared of Nigeria overshadowing SA in BRICS.
You have said it very well. To just add a little Nigeria vote against Russia made their friends happy. When Russia called Africa Summit ,Nigeria did not attend. Nigeria has always been Europe Allie's that is why it felt easy to convince the ECOWAS members to go fight back the Niger. So Nigeria is in Africa yet it is ruled by G7 country's. Solution Nigeria need to do introspection before blaming SA. Nigeria is always an independent thinker when it comes to African issues and always support other groups who against the collected African decision. We Nigerian citizen we get to be blamed just because our leaders failed to put us first.
Under Ramaphosa, SA is proving she's the true leader of Africa, at a time when Nigeria is planning to invade Nigeria to force french colonialism upon them in 2023.
It's Tinubu who wants to invade Niger for fear of being overthrown one day. HE WILL SURELY FAIL BECAUSE NIGERIANS ARE AGAINST HIM AND HIS INVASION PLAN.
This is disappointing for the Dr to blame SA for all sorts of things. As a South African I wish for the Obasanjo years to come back. He understood Nigeria's place in the continent and the world, not these dwarfs of leaders and imposters.
As a Nigerian, it's so sad that Obasanjo is seen as our best. Unfortunately it just means that most of our leaders are horrendous. He wasn't that good for the country. I wonder when we will have just one good one😢
Please stop blaming South Africa for our Bad leadership. Leaders that all they know is how to suppress others. Suppress their Citizens. I don‘t know about Brazil, South Africa and India, but as far as we can see on International Stage, Russia is fearless militarily against the Western Block. And China is deep in strategy in terms of Belt and Road trade route and grand master plan for BRICS to end US Hegemony. As Africans, maybe we can not contribute much, but at least don‘t slow down China and Russia for their fight for Global South. Nigeria should not blame South Africa because SA is the tinniest out of the 5 BRICS nations, but SA is trying for Africa.
Never blame South Africans people! They are the only country that has been fighting for all Africans and pan African! After Obasanjo I don’t remember a good Nigerian 🇳🇬leaders were fighting for pan African! From Ethiopia 🇪🇹 !

From what the Dr said, it seems like Nigeria is not happy that South Africa is leading Brics from an African perspective, its sad because that's just Ego politics and that's one of the things that hold the vision of Pan-Africanism behind. If you want to lead, your politics must be pro-active and not cry to be on the forefront after others have taken initiative. Nigeria is still entangled in politics and culture retarding it's progress. The "Southern Hemisphere" is moving in a new direction of ideology of global awareness; with astute governance addressing an alternative to "Western" systems. Nigeria is still paralyzed by the ignorant/illiterate politicians (most, from top to bottom are stack illiterates in mindset...it's an embarrassment seeing them representing Nigeria externally), tribal, religious, corrupt, and factional politics that hinders Nigeria's growth. Nigeria is rapidly being left behind as a significant player of influence in Africa, let alone global. Nigeria requires a new shift towards group of astute people in governance with intelligence, and engage in a world view that would occupy a major sphere of influence on the global stage.

Now what they mean by that I don't know, but my guess is that they mean the Nigerian leadership doesn't make any efforts whatsoever towards having an independent foreign policy. This is sad. It is like people are eating Nigeria's lunch and Nigeria just looks on.
Exactly. At least Ethiopia is more independent and able to make their own decision. Not like our puppet government. Ready to go to war with our brothers to serve western interest.
Nigeria is led by thugs and clowns, all they do is sell their own people. Nigeria must never be allowed in BRICS. Next year Kenya and must join not those Western puppets called Nigeria, let them suffer alone and we in Africa should not accept Nigeria refugee or expats.
You are threatening Niger has we speak knowing exactly what France is doing there. It is France that has been leading the west African region. Nigeria were blindfolded with just a name Giant of Africa but the real Giant is France.
I don't think the good Dr Okhai is taking the correct approach by viewing South Africa as a potential competitor for Nigeria in trying to dominate Africa. We should try to look at one another as two influencial African states that can work together with 52 other states to build a united, strong continent. To suggest that South Africa is now positioning itself to lead ahead of Nigeria is the type of tribalism this continent does not need. This is a very unprofessional thing to say at this level of dialogue. In fact, Russia and China were never going to choose Nigeria ahead of South Africa as a founding member state of BRICS simply because Russia and China have strong, very strong political ties with the current South African government that go as far back as the 1970s. Anyways, greetings to all Nigerians from us South Africans. Let's unite the continent and quit the tribalism!
even on youtube this Nigerians always compares SA to their village called Nigeria with no roads, no health care facilities, no lights, no malls, no schools, no jobs etc mxm...Nigerians makes me sick

Well said, I cannot speak for Nigeria I won’t even start. I know nothing about their claims to being African leaders what does it say about the other countries are they followers? South Africa has the best platform in Africa to launch any agenda business or political because of our first would laws and stable political climate. We don’t think we are better that makes us easier to work with. Being smart in diplomatic matter is our super power it’s heavily embedded in our various cultures. Take some time to learn from SA. Nigeria might learn a thing or two.
I am a Nigerian, and I love your comment! I greatly admire Ramaphosa's foresight with BRICS. South Africa is on the right path to economic independence and prosperity for its people. I hope that the "leaders" in Nigeria can see the benefit of membership in this fair and progressive organization.
By now, Nigeria should have stood like a main GIANT ECONOMIC PILAR of Africa. But what do we see very very bad governance, top notch economic and political mess, corruption and GREED and a puppet to the West. Nigeria 🇳🇬 was played around like a small fool on the ECO monetary issue by French vassal. Nigeria failed to attend Russia summit while Tinubu instead visited Macron in Paris after the election. We don't care. I don't want Nigeria to join BRICS any more. BRICS have shown that they have issue with us. So the body cannot be trusted. We can make it without BRICS. Nigeria is not a small country.
Not in the interests of South Africa to have Nigeria join? What a breathtaking lack of self awareness. First, it's not South Africa's decision alone to decide who in Africa is in or out. It's all 5 members' decision. Secondly, I'm convinced that the only reason West Africa is not in Brics is because that place rightfully belongs to Nigeria. But Nigeria is still very much tied to the West's apron strings, even willing to invade and punish a neighbor for standing up to western bullies, an obvious issue for Brics nations. Brics doesn't need that drama so early in its launch.
Nigerians are like some of our brothers here in the US blaming everyone else for their failures, instead of growing some spine and becoming Anti-colonial...
The new president of Nigeria is focussed on going into war with his very small tiny struggling african neighbouring country and not focussed on building his nation and peace with his neighbours, how do you expect a leader like that to be taken seriously? The guest is a bit short-sighted in terms of insisting on how joining the BRICS would give Nigeria a bigger and better negotiation power. Instead of making the case and hammering facts and figures on WHAT Nigeria can bring to the table and HOW that would enhance the BRICS, he sat there blaming South Africa over and over again. And worse, he suggests to go around South Africa and lobby China and Russia. That is how some Africans sow division among themselves. This "intellectual" should know that it would yield better results for Nigeria to start courting South Africa as BRICS' giant on the continent (at least for now), and show good intentions of fruitful and mutually beneficial collaboration by building partnerships and strong ties on the continent. The BRICS is not about internal competition, it's about building a synergy by bring assets together. If Nigeria starts a blame game from the get go, this would be a sign of the spirit of division that it could sow within the BRICS once on board of the BRICS ship.
