I remember seeing Nigerians in church. They were so full of life and energy. The women were so colorful in their Sunday dress. Their songs were incredible. It was incredible. Nigerians are great. I met a lot of Nigerians in Korea and Saudi Arabia. Same thing, very much full of life, ambition and energy. The energy is contagious. Welcome to the USA. Respect.

They don't talk, to each other, but tend to shout at each other, , they mock people with disabilities, lack sense of compassion, especially people who are PWAs, people here find them aggressive angry and very argumentative , which puts people off. As a Nigerian still in Nigeria, I'd say one of the forces is the fact that America provides an opportunity that we may not see at home and then we're quick to grab and harness it... added with the fact that family and God is very important to us, we only strive for the top 🇳🇬 ✊🏾
National structures are set up specific ways to allow specific people to benefit over others within the country sometimes based on International interest and deals that the public don't really know about. I am Nigerian living in the USA and we are all driven. Our parents see education and good home training as the best gift they can give to us. In my family alone, most of us are PhDs and we spend all we can to get the best education we can. To be honest even the regular person on the streets of Nigeria values Education more than anything else. Best believe that the most talented Nigerians are still in Nigeria. Our drive is on a different level. Our family structure,and our sense of community provide the support we need to succeed anywhere. We are also never distracted by the noise cos it’s all about the big picture for us. I feel blessed to come from Nigeria cos all my experiences have made me more driven with resultant success.
Same here; in my family; five siblings; two doctors, two nurse (one in school for nurse practitioner), one more a 2nd year medical student. We value education a lot.

I am not Nigerian myself but my encounter with them is that they are very driven and high IQ individuals. I do not think Its the top one percent being picked. If those in the poverty line would be given a chance they would be just like the ones we see here. And without the education ofcourse they would not be picked as highly skilled. No steady electricity no running water in quite a few homes, where they have to go out and get their water or pay to have it delivered to them. Dr. Faith, why is it that Nigerians ON AVERAGE have such low divorce rates? I'm not going to name which country in Africa I come from but we're almost at 90% divorce rate, yes even second generation. Is it strong Christian faith? culture? I need specifics. Is there anything Nigerian couples are doing before marriage? are Nigerian women of certain cultures like Igbo or Yoruba just MORE feminine? what is it?
Nigeria has a 63% poverty rate, 47% graduate from High School (secondary school) and only 7% has college degrees. African American has have poverty rate of 18%, 90% graduate from High School and 26% from college. The brain drain of Nigeria's mostly middle and upper classes, like that of other "Model Minorities," over a number of decades is what led to the success of Nigerian immigration in the US and the UK. Except if you simply compare immigrants from Nigeria to the middle and higher classes of African Americans, in which case African Americans would statistically outperform them, it would be illogical to statistically compare them to the entire African American community.

tbh I don't agree that the top 1 percent of us come to the states! I think in Nigeria itself we still have tons of brains and highly intellectual people; however, things like education strikes, lack of job opportunities and of course corruption are what will keep hindering us from progressing. Nigerians in the diaspora just have a different drive because we know where we are coming from and we know that FAILURE is NOT an option!! I agree with you sir. I don't agree with some reports too like Nigerians don't go back home. I live here in the US and many of us loves to travel back home especially during festive periods. Even there are some great numbers of successful people too in Nigeria whom was educated in Nigeria and achieved success there. They made it seem like Nigeria does not have good education. The system might be faulty but there are great high institutions back home. You can make money in America but the best place for me to spend it is Nigeria.
Of course lots more intelligent Nigerians back on the continent. It’s just the DNA but expect propaganda of some sort when western issues are discussed. If only Nigeria in particular and Africa in general can get a handle on corruption.

@@tumix671because the country kinda sucks sometimes, there's so many things wrong but you can research modern Nigerian politics I'd you're interested. Part of the reason why my dad left Nigeria and will not go back after he retires. There's just a better quality of life over here, so my dad said he doesn't wanna go back to Nigeria to live there. Just my story, but I bet similar is the same for many Nigerian immigrants. I'm just a first gen, plus my mom is African-American so my experience may be different than other first gens because my dad married an American. One MAJOR factor that was missed out here was the NIGERIAN/BIAFRAN CIVIL WAR. My late father who in 1967 moved on a USAID scholarship to study his post graduate degree told me that he was "enticed" with many of his then contemporaries to remain behind because of his intelligence. We are from the South Eastern part of Nigeria. He and many young bright students from that area of his generation were told by their hosts to remain behind, because of the war situation of their locality that period. Many remained behind and became part of the American institution, working in NASA and many top secret U.S. government agencies. He was one of the few that decided to come back home and he settled in the Western part of Nigeria, which was not as ravaged in the war as the east and built his career in Nigeria's Premier University..becoming Nigeria's first Professor of Soil Chemistry. So the war also cause a generation of Nigeria students to remain behind, at least for a period..Great video, I must commend.
I applaud Nigerians that are making it in the USA and everywhere far from home. It is not easy but is especially doable in America and even a bigger thank you to the Black Americans who endured so much pain to make America a beacon of hope, helping fight for the very rights new immigrants enjoy today and because of this we have a starting point for all black people. America is a place to test our theory and put it to practice. The Nigerian community with their entrepreneurial spirit is growing 👏🏿 and I hope that they also continue to try to create bridges with black Americans who paved the way for many immigrants especially African new immigrants. Black Americans also have a subset of very educated and successful people with their own communities and my hope is we all learn to celebrate our victories and build together in America then copy and paste back in Africa together with black Americans. Another thing I admire about Nigerians is how united they are in helping each other grow, well most anyways. It's the cheering on and support that they show each other that will keep their communities growing, as a fellow african this brings joy to my heart. And maybe this is what the rest of african people need to see to learn from to put differences aside to build something strong together in a foreign country. In general most africans all do well in the USA thanks again to those who where taken from africa via the Atlantic slave trade. Other africans stay purposely isolated and work in silos (self-preservation perhaps) because not all their fellow citizens from back home want to help each other out because the prefer competitiveness instead of collaboration. As a proud national pan-african, I hope to see those of us who really want to change the black narrative of being lazy and criminal minded to what we were before slavery, a progressive race. Someday we will actually start working together beyond our own communities to destroy the physical and mental borders that yts created in Africa and start trading and building a better stronger Africa than they one muzungus want to take over someday in another form of colonialism. However, maybe this dream will start when we all unite in the diaspora and take our ideas back home and together eliminate the Insecurities that keep us divided on the continent as well. First of, Nigerians in Nigeria are still doing well despite the circumstances. In fact, the best talents in tech, entertertainment, enterpreneural drive, best graduating students e.t.c are still in Nigeria until they opt for other options outside. We're calling on ados/ Fba (hate gangs) to face their problems and leave Nigerians alone. The hate is real because these people look for immigrants to harrass, trample on, because Nigerians don't fit that bill, they're on hate mongering, divisive tactics against Nigerians. very very underrated comment.....I come from a tribe in my country(africa) that is considered more intellegent but what i noticed is as a minority we are encouraged by elders collectively to excell at school.no matter how rich you become the first question is what did you do at school and even the majority tribes will say you are naturally smart because of your tribe which I dont agree with. My friend from a majority tribe once said that his nephews (sister married to our tribesman) told their cousins(his kids) they dont have an option but to study hard as they belong to our tribe 😅😅

It is not the top 1%. Trust me a lot of them came from very low backgrounds. That's actually what drives them to succeed. We are naturally hustlers. It is the lack of opportunities back home. Same thing is now replicating in Canada. The Canadians are a bit more picky i suspect.
Nigerian cultures emphasize personal responsibility and excellence. Pick any poor Nigerian kid from the village, put him in a good school and he' ll graduate from an Ivy League College. Even the poorest Nigerian does not accept failure as an option. My African American brother-in-law calls it, "the Nigeria Optimism." Contrary to some opinions here, it is not that Nigerians are more intelligent than any other group, that's God's blessing to humanity; it's that their culture, especially amongst the Igbos emphasize focus, "gbado anya". While studying "Emotional Quotient, E.Q" I came to the conclusion that when it comes to material achievement, your ability to delay gratification is probably the most important variable for success. High I.Q. may be a dime a dozen but the drivers of success is their E.Q.

You see this success comes with pressure, shouting, beating excessive advice and being humble, I studied geology, own a bakery and invested in mineral resources, you have no idea what I passed through to be an example to my siblings and I am not 30yrs
1st generation Nigerians have been taught delayed gratification subconsciously from real life childhood experiences so finding themselves in the right place and opportunities, those subconscious qualities will enable them excel. Take for instance, a 7 yrs old kid that have to complete his homework after walking 8 miles back home from school, no lunch probably some tiny dinner. To complete the assignment he only has a candle stick and mosquitoes zooming everywhere. Waking up the next morning to be flogged for getting to school 10 minutes late (8:10am) however he has woken up since 5:00am but had to complete some house chores including fetching water before heading to school. However, he had little breakfast and no plans for lunch, notwithstanding he still has an hope that the future will bring forth a better day (aka e go better). Going thru all these Nigerian struggles and if he eventually has an opportunity to migrate to the USA . American struggles will be a walk in the park.

Thanks for the video. I also add that our parents and extended family are also very involved with our development. Theirs a culture of a community raising the child rather than just the parents, we get asked by family members whether we’ve been promoted, started a side hustle or thought about furthering our education.
Just put a Nigerian in the right soil, the seed will grow and blossom. After going through all the hard life in their native country, living in America is nothing to them. Their faith in themselves and God combined with good morals and a passion for family helps them to thrive anywhere.
A country where all the systems are working is the right soil. A country where laws are obeyed, justice prevails, corruption is not tolerated, tribalism is not tolerated is destined to prosper regardless of the physical resources.
Excellence is the foundation of millions of Nigerian families. Am one of ten kids and the least educated amongst us is Bachelor’s degree. I lost count how many of us have masters now. There is a saying 9jia no dey carry last. Nigerians ever finish last. 😂😂😂

Black Americans do marry. Black men raise black children despite the rhetoric. Our culture just doesn't demand marriage unlike Nigerian or Asian cultures. My parents are very religious yet they never forced me and my sisters to marry. They let us find our own path. And part of it has to do with being American and the individualistic mindset people have in this country. everybody is free to pursue what works best for them. I highly doubt marriage would prevent school to prison pipeline or mass incarceration within the black community. The black family was decimated to feed the prison system in the first place. Marriage is good for wealth building and raising children but its not a solution to systemic problems black americans face.
Nigeria has one of the highest paternity fraud rates in the world. No need to downplay others to promote them. Their wins can be better appreciated without the false contrasts.
It will not be enough if they can not help Nigerian to stand up as a great nation because they have all what it takes to make Nigeria better I pray Nigeria will come back stronger than ever before God bless Africa

For a long time, I've admired the high level of education and success achieved by Nigerians in the U.S. and U.K. I hope you all can somehow transfer that success back to Nigeria and to Africa as a whole by extension. I believe that in the next 50 years, Nigeria will be the most successful country in Africa and one of the most successful in the world. The fact is that the vast majority of Nigerian Americans come from Southern Nigeria which can be said to be the intellectual, economic and technological power house of Africa and the black world in general. These are the black brain boxes of the world and these people whether rich or poor will rise to the top anywhere they are and if they find the chance to do so. They are in many ways like the Jewish community, self supporting and clannish to a fault. Nigerians don’t wait for opportunities to be handed to them they will take it at the first chance they have to do so. About half of Nigerias population comes from the more economically advanced and prosperous southern one-third of the country but they’ve always felt held back by the Northern led government whom the British colonial government entrusted with power at independence, the corrupt governance system has led to gross disparities in wealth and income between rich and poor Nigerians withe wealth of the country being siphoned off by the wealthy 1%. Nigerias wealthy 1% do not live in America and are not Nigerian Americans and do nit need to be they might have homes in America, UK or Dubai but they are definitely not immigrants and would never dream of considering themselves as immigrants. They are the super wealthy and can live anywhere they choose in the world. On the other hand Nigerian Americans and British-Nigerians have worked their way to the top through hard work graft and ambition. Even if they came to the country poor or penniless they would take advantage of every opportunity to provide their children with every opportunity they can muster including a good education and they push their children to achieve in the face of all odds racism or no racism. The end result is that Nigerians rise to the top within one or two generations. They are naturally highly intelligent hard working and very focused people and despite the self made poverty back home caused by corrupt Nigerian governments, Nigeria is one of the wealthiest countries in the world it just has a wealth that is grossly mismanaged by a corrupt class. Many of the wealthy diaspora Nigerians are also going back home to set themselves up in Nigeria to take part in the economic boom that is taken hold of their motherland and sub Saharan Africa. Every Nigerian knows that real wealth cannot be achieved in a foreign land no matter how much you own, you do not control the levers of power therefore Nigerians hold on to their sense of separateness and dream that they will one day go back home (even if they never fully do so) where they can be truly wealthy in spirit body and soul.
