After using this bit of kit on a 4 day bikepacking trip I decided to give it a once over for your perusal.
I have to say it performed well and is a great solution for hammock campers on multi day hikes where trees may not be avaliable everyday.

Wonderful review and fantastic hack for raising the roof on the bivy! I have owned a Nightcat for about two years. Many thanks for the suggestion. I shall try it on my next camping trip. I am super pleased with the Nightcat, and for parks that don’t allow hammocking, it is not a problem. Thanks for the idea.

Convinced me to buy this a while back and just wanted to say I can confirm this is very comfortable. I slept in it in hammock form at around 2 degrees F. Just throw a Klymit mat in it and you're good to go.

You can get a diag lay of sorts but if I were expecting weather I'd use a normal tarp

@@pedroclaro7822 no I didn't use an underquilt, but I did have an all night fire going with a mylar blanket hung to reflect the heat at me, I almost always do that. Also my sleeping mat is R5 As for water resistance it's fine for light rain and snow. But if you plan for heavy rain or wind I would say get a tarp.

It is like a swiss knife....can do several things - but nothing right. Neither a comfy hammock (Bridge hammocks tend to tip over, diagonal flat lay is impossible) nor a real tent. Thanks for this interesting video that convinced me to stick with my old trusty Hennessy Hammock and a closed cell foam mat for insulation. So I can go to the ground whenever I like. The hammock tarp can be set up with my trekking poles and gives me a real good and flexible shelter for any weather condition. Upright sitting height, no condensation problems. Plus...my combo is way lighter. I love this idea, but in the shown performance it has no advantages.

I tent to agree but it does work. One thing I will say is that I did get a really good night's kip in it, would swap out the fly for a tarp tho

A onetigris compound hammock and tarp is the best set up ever used by me comphy reliable fantastic price high quality materials it's out of stock on amazon really hope they get it back in stocks soon

It looks like a variation on the DD Jungle Hammock. I’ve got a DD and have used it as a hammock and bivvi. They are good in both settings. I don’t like the bright green, or cat logo, so my vote goes to the DD.

Sure looks like a Lawson Blue Ridge hammock without the spreader bars at each end. The spreader bars keep it from becoming a gathered end hammock. Over 60 years hammock camping and the only hammock that dumped me onto the ground was the Lawson Blue Ridge when I went to sit on it like my other hammocks. My fault , not the hammocks.

huh.... with a pair of trekking poles i wonder of instead of that shock cord going under the tent, it could loop around the top of a trekking pole and 1 extra line pulling away towards where the tree is.. so the shock cords would be pulled up and towards where the tree would be in the bivy setup for a much higher bivy set up.

Weight wise you'll be fine and a 6 footer should manage. Any freakishly tall people may struggle.

When the rainfly "door" is opened, can you, instead of rolling it, tie it so that you can still see outside while it's raining (and protect your gear)? That question is both for tent & camping setting.

I'm sure you could rig it to poles or tie out. I haven't tried tbh as I gave it away after the review ( I have a lot of hammocks )

No I haven't Richard, and to be honest in hammock mode I'd ditch the built in fly for a standard tarp if I was expecting heavy rain. I think it will be waterproof enough but space, access etc might be a pain

Dd jungle hammock super light is the worst money I've ever spent really bad calf ridge the shitest tarp wouldn't stop u getting wet in a shower hopefully this will be spot on

No mate, I gave the tent away so I left it on. I did spend a night in it as a hammock the other night (on my camping channel) and have to say the comfort surprised me

Why the duck this has nothing to fix the tarp to the poles on your right side on the opposite site of the entry ?! When there is wind and rain you have no hammock you have a god damn bathtub! Man nightcat guys. Make another two holes and let us fix the other side to the poles toooo!!!! How about that!??? That’s really dumb! And no place to put your under mat for isolation into this thing. No big deals!!! Just fix it and you have a nice product but why like this? Few simple mods and great product! But nooo I just make again a half hearted not welly thought through product. Like thousand others!
