I'm a girl and I played both games, the first and second Nights of Azure, and I enjoy them very much. The endings are bittersweet, that merely listening to the soundtracks can make me remember moments in the game. Some people are hating merely because it's girls love. There are even yuri fans hating because of the fan service, they think both games only treating yuri as fan service. I mean sure there are fan services, and I'm not into fan service but I don't mind, they're not exaggerated. The romance is still in the air. To me both story are serious, giving me angst. in the first Nights of Azure, Arnice and Lilysse are totally in love with each other and they try to protect each other. There are conflict and character development resulting from that, there's even a time when Lilysse is angry with Arnice. Arnice even trying to hold back the urge of wanting to drink Lilysse's blood. You can feel how genuine Arnice's sacrifice throughout the game. They even made different songs for the endings. in the second Nights of Azure, the true ending totally caught me off guard. The twist, I didn't expect it. I really hope they will continue make more Nights of Azure. Why is it so rare to have yuri theme RPG. Like come on, it's 2020 now. Some men and women gamers just want yuri themed RPG.
NoA 2 being my first ever Gust developed game, i definitely ended up enjoyed it. Ended up playing NoA1 on steam, was also great. After that delved in to the atelier games and now Gust has very well become one of my favorite RPG developers. Definitely hope that regardless of NoA 2’s poor sales, that we could eventually get a 3rd entry, there needs to be a conclusion to this series. Anyways the yuri & gothic art direction for the series is something you don’t see in RPG’s besides Code vein from Japanese developers, that I’m aware of anyways. And while we wait for that day....I hope Blue reflection 2 happens....Blue reflection has easily one of the best if not THE BEST OST for a JRPG, imo...I just absolutely LOVE blue reflections OST overall & it’s Art direction/style/visuals & simplistic RPG Gameplay.
The first game didn't treat the romance so cheaply. People hated 2 for many reasons though, rather than a sequel it felt like it made changes for the worse rather than fix the smaller things in the first that could have made it great. It is no wonder Japan hated it and it sold terribly which is a shame since Arnice deserved better.
I agree that the story for both games could have been more polished, but the first one was amazing with the small stories you could read about Arnice and Lylisse time in school. That being said I am grateful we got these games cuz I feel it's already rare enough to get "knight/princess" theme in yuri as in a strong girl saving another one and I really want more games with that setting. For some reason they like to make sad lesbian games ... We still should support games like these, so we can get better yuri games in the future with an actual happy ending when the girl manages to save the one she loves.
I played the game and I don't think think people are hating the game for being about yuri as I think it's done really well even if fanservice is involved. Personally, my only gripes with the second game (didn't play the first) is the lack of polish on certain aspects of the gameplay and that it can be very repetitive.
First game is quite good and shows potential. 2nd was uhhh... serviceable. And I am being quite generous. They really need to step it up for a 3rd game, if it happens.
Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon...most fun game I've played. Seriously need to buy the first one and play it. I love this game's music. Its so beautiful. Its become one of my few favorite musics and franchises
music i agree is awesome. however. the game has some issues. outside of being the same plot type as game 1 being save your friend from being a sacrefice. the combat has some issues. the camera controls being the biggest one :p
Something you have to try extra hard for. In NoA1, to get the best ending, you need to first get any of the others and then reload your save and talk to the Maiden of Jorth to manually increase Arnice's relationship situation with Lilysse to max level and then fight Ludegett again. Only then you'll see the best end. In NoA2, you have to max out the relationships with all the Lilies (you might not make it on first try but IIRC, their relationship level transfers to NG+ and besides, you no longer have the pressure of time regarding the moon phase system in NG+) and then defeat Malvasia. Good endings are possible in these games, just not on first playthrough.
I really want a Nights of Azure 3 but only if it plays more like the first game, honestly. Kinda sad that it might not happen regardless due to the apparently poor reception of the sequel.
If so I hope someone else makes it, the gameplay is shit but the music is ace, especially the end boss theme, just playing the end is what made the game bearable knowing its boss fight would have such an intense music background.
Feels rushed and unfinished with audio clips not playing at times and having to fight against the camera a lot and translation issues Also not being able to travel between areas without returning to the hotel and giving up your remaining time kinda sucks especially later in the game when you have excessive amounts of time that just goes to waste Not saying it's a terrible game for what it's meant to be but is not worth paying full price for

I prefer English dubs as well, however, once I am used to the characters talking in 1 language in particular, I cant never hear them talking in other languages. It just doesnt feels right. Arnice speaks Japanese to me, I cant picture her talking English.
