On an historical note, WitchfinderGeneral is set in England around the time of the English Civil War.

Witchfinder is an English film set in England. I'm looking forward to getting The Bloody Judge in 4K, I had the previous blue underground dvd.

I haven't seen this movie but Witchfinder General is my favorite Vincent Price movie

I saw "Blood Judge" once, and I'm with you on your assessment. Even as an acquired Franco is so wildly inconsistent that it's difficult to praise him outright. However, I love "Diabolical Dr. Z", "Venus in Furs", "Lucky the Inscrutable" (a wild, Modesty Blaise - flavored spy spoof) and "Eugenie, the Story of Her Decent into Perversion" (also featuring Chris Lee). His earlier "Attack of the Robots" with Eddie Constantine has some fun moments.

If you did nothing else you convinced me to buy Witchfinder General! I insist my scantily clad women movies have a little more substance! That cover with Vincent Price dressed in the I guess pilgrim garb? Had me immediately! 😂 Anyway thanks love your channel!

Franco’s Dracula is pretty good.

Night of the eagle 1989 with Mark Hamil and Christopher Lee is a jess Franco film that doesn't worship the female form.

I like his earlier black and white movies. They are more like noir horror films. The movies you mentioned and Mark of the Devil I don’t care for due to the violence and torture against women.

Roy Frumkes from Synapse films said it best, 'why is everyone obsessed with a perfect picture?' The quality control in film restoration is not as strong today as it was back in 2001. Audio restoration matters too. Blu-ray and 4K DNR scanning are destroying the movies. And if it's not a direct transfer from the original film negatives, it's not going to look it's absolute best. For a lot of movies, basic DVD is still the best presentation. Cecil B. Demille's King of Kings is an excellent example, the original DVD is the complete version, the blu-ray and reissues are all cut by ten minutes.

Witchfinder General is an absolute classic, one of the Unholy Trinity of folk horror. The Bloody Judge is an inferior knockoff, but at least is more of an actual film than many later Franco films. If you want to see a good stylish Franco film with meat on the bones, his early monochrome efforts are the best. I’d recommend: The Awful Dr. Orlof (1962) Death Whistles the Blues (1962) Rififi in the City (1963) The Diabolical Dr. Z (1966)

Please don't give up on Franco before you see his early gothic movies like The awful Dr.Orlof or The Diabolical Dr.Z. The double release Franco Noir from Severin might also be more up your alley Heath. The Towers films have the better production values but are not my favorites.

Europe must been a horrific savage place live during Witch Hunt trials....many millions tortured to death in sickening ways. Anyone in position of power who wanted u removed would accuse u of being a Witch and yes ...common of course Torture is Exploitation😂....and im sure this film rather mild compared to what actually happened. Camera scene distortion errh Kiddies get that in 80s Directors used camera lenses for scenes to project Dream like imagery....and grain is good for u.
