@@PoetryOnline Please note that when we talk of alliteration and assonance, they have nothing to do with LETTERS but everything to do with SOUNDS. The 'S' in SHEAVES does not stand in isolation. It partners with 'h' to produce the palato-alveolar fricative /ʃ /. The 'S' in SLIT, however, is an alveolar fricative/s/. These two sounds are, therefore, not the same and cannot qualify as alliteration. Even the plural marker 's' in SHEAVES is not pronounced/s/ but rather/z/ because of the voiced sound /v/ that precedes it. Please, check it again. Thanks 😊
