Awesom video From MAC that addresses lights on pistols! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ru2TvbdeCiY.htmlsi=S7YWf-1a8Qp4zNQf Again, if you like night sights, then keep using them. Just train with them and know their limitations.

I have a question would the example with GWOT or what you used be also applicable to the light 😅 I mean what if your fellow soldier didn’t bring or lost his IR strobe. Me personally wouldn’t take the risk if blue on blue and besides is there really a driffrence if I squeeze the trigger or put my beam on real quick at least in an Urban setting? I am sorry for the smooth brain people ✌🏻 Have a Nice day and thank you for the videos from 🇩🇪🦅🇺🇸

If you use your night vision those night sights will blind you and doesn’t give a good sight picture. You need a handheld IR light or one attached to your pistol. For ccw have a light attached to your gun or carry one to ID your target and use the sights for alignment. Training will solve this. I use a blacked out rear and a front sight that gives some night vision. Works for me but this is a great video

I switched to night sights because i was doing a night time shooting competition using white light. I could easily see the target approx 20yds but couldnt make a hit using stock glock sights. Nights sights should be used in conjuction with a white light in my opinion.

night sights are useful in low light as well, its not always either super dark or bright. there are many times where there is enough light to target id and see they have a weapon but its dark enough where your irons are hard to see. I prefer a hand held light over a weapon mounted light, seems to be more handy 99% of the time.
@Katana_Gryphon
@Katana_Gryphon 7 месяцев назад
I don’t understand why people always devolve the discussion into one or the other. You would rather have a handheld. OK cool. Why not both? Pull out the handheld for the 99% of the time, and still have a weapon light to identify your target…while maintaining a two-handed grip on the pistol and not having to take a harder one-handed shot.
@tardogungas7236
@tardogungas7236 7 месяцев назад
@@Katana_Gryphon because then you have to lug two around. Having a light on your weapon also makes it less concealable and heavier. You have to get a holster to accommodate the light as well. It's just simpler and more convenient to have a hand held rather than both.

I used some black paint to cover the tridium vials in my pistol night sights. Causes too much blurry shit in my FOV when using NODs. Night sights add zero value once the pistol light comes on anyway.

I generally differ to your experience. But as I generally buy Glocks, and Gaston makes me buy my own sights, I figure why not through some glowing radiation on the front. I mean really, its like a $20 difference between standard quality steel sights and Ameriglos with a front tritium dot. But yes, you're right.
@wernervoss6357
@wernervoss6357 7 месяцев назад
They don't even really solve sight alignment. I remember the first time I played around with my Glock in the dark (that sounded dirty!), only to realize that those three little green dots look pretty much the same, regardless of wether the front dot os in between the other two or outside of them. Night sights were considered "mandatory" in the the 2010s and earlier, but as soon as everyone started using lights, they kinda became irrelevant. That said, most of my pistols have night sights, but that's more because they're steel and high contrast than because they're tritium.
@armorers_wrench
@armorers_wrench 7 месяцев назад
"Night sights" are better than standard Glock sights during the day but yeah I agree they're useless at night cuz if you use a light you can't use the tritium. Fiber optic sights are really the best iron sights but they're not super durable generally speaking so a Hackathorn style night sight isn't a bad option for day light use assuming a high viz front sight.
@robertsbushcraft
@robertsbushcraft 7 месяцев назад
I missed part one. But I can honestly suggest to skip the night sights and invest in a good weapon light. Intruders are coming down your hall to your bedroom. Or is that your son sneaking in? You need to see your target.

I'm with you! I have been leading church security for many years. I should preface the next statement with the fact I spent 13 months USAF DS/DS and learned enough to know it's a huge difference between standing on a line punching holes in paper and getting rounds on target while taking fire. I hear many unrealistic statements, in numerous church security classes, from people that are not even standing on a line like: "I'm just going to shoot them in the head.", or "If they come in our church we are just going to shoot them. ". I sincerely hope the day never comes that I have to use deadly force 😢, especially in my church😢😢. But I certainly don't want collateral damage 😢😢😢. In a dark situation I prefer a led strobe weapon light, maybe I might not have to pull the trigger: working an ambulance 1 night in a very dark rural setting a PD officer hit us in the face with a led strobe(horse play) I feel it has much deterrent in addition to target ID & acquisition, as well as collateral mitigation. Now, >50, I am learning red dot, big leaning curve that I think is improving me. Also quarterly we fellowship @ the range to encourage practice, though it's just standing on the line punching holes, hopefully in all aspects of 2nd Amendment we can mitigate any & preferably all collateral damage. Thanks for insights, @ a minimum I use it as food for thought. Aim High!

Internet commandos who clearly don't shoot on a regular basis, sounds about right for the comments section lol. I have a few guns with night sights, some without. Honestly they are good if I'm target shooting in complete darkness and I've done that before on a closed range outdoors and there's minimal light splash from a wml they are handy in that niche scenario. Any other time like defensive, home defense, ccw, you're not engaging a target unless you know what you're shooting at. In this case even fiber optics in near darkness totally works fine. If you have a light there's enough splash from surrounding walls and objects to get a basic sight picture anyway. This coming from somebody who regularly practices in low light.

If I'm not using NV I want night sights and a weapon light. Hypothetical, your shooting from a dark area into a well lit area. Like say on duty at night, you're in someone's dark yard needing to engage an assailant on a well lit porch. You can easily and readily identify the target but can't see your sights.

Definitely agree with you!! The sights on my pistol sucked. I upgraded them and the ones I bought were night sights. I wasn't worried about using them for the tritium. Target Identification is where it's at!! Using a light is definitely way more important!!!

Target i.d. is important both in rule of law times, and times of war. The only difference is how you would aquire target i.d. in normal rule of law times, it's with a white light on whatever your ccw 🔫 or home defense 🔫 is. In war times it would either be with a scope, a monocular/binoculars, and a nightvision device if at night...

For the past 2 years, the number of new firearms owners has increased spenantialy. It's only natural to see that a whole bunch of them do not have the training nor the discipline, and it appears that you have been tagged to teach these people how to deal with it. Yes, there are those who will not learn, but that's how the game is.. It's also very natural for them to go through RU-vid and come across your channel. Your channel content is very rich and you can learn a lot, especially for or a new person. Yeah, you are gonna get some pushback from lots of arrogant people who have no idea what they're doing.... There are not many ranges that offer night time shooting. People feel strong needs to put night sights on their guns because they simply have not done serious shooting in dark environments. Putting NS may have a placebo effect by giving people a sense of security without them actually putting in the work to test it.

You can often see pretty damn good under street lights or gas station lights, but its still hard to get a crisp decent sight picture. Night sights or a red dot help with that. In near total darkness you can make out a long gun or pistol silhouette. Plus the target maybe in brighter light than you. Night sights basically just help you index your gun.

Buy a handheld light. You'll use it FAR more than a weapon light. I use mine everyday. It can be a deterrent also if youre walking at night with it on, a bad guy might pick a new target. Not to mention youre not pointing a loaded gun at someone while you are identifying them like you would with a weapon mounted light.

@Katana_Gryphon
@Katana_Gryphon 7 месяцев назад
Plus why does the “don’t point a loaded gun at someone to identify them” argument ever come up with long guns? Are we advocating the use of handhelds while using a long gun? Because I’d love to see that. Or is it just accepted that you certainly can use a rifle light for target ID?
@Swishersweetcigarilo
@Swishersweetcigarilo 7 месяцев назад
@Gryphonification The video was about what to buy first if you can't afford both night sights and weapon light. I'm simply saying a handheld light would be my first purchase before either. Of course, you should own all 3 IF you can afford it. You don't walk around in public with a long gun, do you? If a long gun is in your hands, then you most likely know something is going down. If you're in your house, then barricade yourself in the room and point the longgun at the door while on the phone with 911. If you have family that you must go out and protect I'd rather have a handgun so I can open doors and grab children. There are many scenarios we could go over but needing a handheld flashlight to find your keys that you dropped or to illuminate a dark alley is far more likely than pulling a gun with a weapon light and doing high speed operator stuff.
