Night Star Night Vision 

Even with PVS14's focusing on near then far targets is one of the hardest things to do. I am sure the PVS31's and the panoramic night vision that current SOCOM and specialized units use have superior focusing but if your using gen 1 - gen 3 focusing on near and far objects at the same time is something that is not easily achieved. When I was still enlisted as a 19D I had a set of PVS14s that were issued to me and if I focused them just right and got the ocular lense and the objective lense dialed in perfectly I could switch between near and far to a certain degree. But heaven forbid I bumped my goggles up against something, touched one of the lenses, dropped the unit, stowed the unit in it's pouch, set it down on its side, or if they got jostled for what ever reason that fine tuned focus was gone. I usually ran with one unit engaged on my non-dominate eye and the other unit either detached or flipped up. Which is how most of the other units ran theirs as well. The rare occasion I would use both goggle in unison was when stationary or moving over wide open terrain with little to no obstructions. So many of the non initiated think that the COD night vision is how it looks and works, which is hilarious. Another aspect of NV is you have to have light for it to work. If you have little to no light you have to supply the light. So that means you need an IR illuminator. Which is fine. But you better hope the enemy doesn't have even the shittiest of night vision because if they do, your IR light will flag you like you wouldn't believe. One of the most difficult things to do with night vision is to simply walk especially over uneven ground. Which is why one of the first things you do when you receive your night vision is to wear it on a ruck march. I will tell you, it's a lot of fun falling down and tripping on stuff you normally would easily avoid. By the end of the ruck march you will be able to walk with them, then the next challenge. Fighting with them. Moving from cover to cover, door to door, fire position to fire position, not being able to discern depth of field and having a restricted field view equivalent to a toilet paper roll makes all of that nearly impossible. Not to mention the other guys moving their heads around trying to orient themselves and washing out your unit with their IR lights. Or running into something (like the guy in front of you or his pack) and having you eye piece give you that good old scope eye and you get to walk around with a black eye for a week. Most units use night vision for OP/LP and the specialized units will have more advanced equipment and much more time using them in training and the understanding of when to transition in and out of the units. That's why you will see the SEALS and RECON guys using them effortlessly. The common 11B infantryman will have 1 PVS14 that they get little to no time with to familiarize themselves with. Usually it is used in a passive setup on the non dominant eye and is used for navigation and observation, not active engagement. Been about 10 years since I was in, and I am sure military night vision has come a long way.

Can you show the camera looking through the nvg while it’s turned on?

I just have a Gen 3 PVS-7 biocular it was "Tactically acquired" from a U.S. Army base because it was a U.S. Military issued PVS-7 unit equipped with a gen 3 image intensifier tube in it. It fucks hard, haters may hate, but it has been a good unit for me, I paid $975 for my nvg unit.

Out of the cheaper options the sightmark monocular with an IR light on my helmet seems to be the most economical solution. But it’s not perfect.

When I was in the field, I remember most of us hated NVGs. It makes me wonder how bad the cheap ones must be because we were rocking the PVS 14's. I want to get my own setup now and I guess I'll just have to make it work.

PLEASE PLEASE....tell me how it is when you look at the sky....I am looking for ufos/satellites etc and I find that there are thousands of people looking for nightvision for this purpose and NO ONE is doing reviews that ever look at the sky.

I own this pair I found in cqb keep the ir illuminator on I didn’t have re focus at all but long distance/ wooded area re focus with it off also same with close objects keep the ir on just train your self peq 15 and dbal work great as well

What? The focus is 1:1 the same like on gen3 devices. The Focusing process is always the same. Even in CQB with 20k $ nvgs...

Hey video request: can you do a video on the utg magnifier or anything else I. The 50 dollar or less range (the ones with strong reviews so you don't waste your money). Vortex and monstrum isn't exactly in the poor man's club.

I gotta say.... I got a pair of these and they came without paperwork, the mounting headgear was broken, the Unit wouldn't even turn on... and they are heavy as hell..like.. 2lbs for the binocular without the headmount almost... I better get my refund for $420.... im very dissatisfied... Its a shame Sightmark and Pulsar and other companies don't still offer good, quality ad affordable 1x head mounted NV anymore... someone needs to leap on this niche market!

Did you have a look under the sticker? Those look a lot like bellarussian Dipol goggles. They have a decent gen2+ version in a similar shape. Dipol D221H PRO. Sadly those are not cheap like the gen1 version.

I think I prefer a flashlight to this setup.
