The tech is definitely accelerating wildly, which means units become "obsolete" quicker. Although even thermal that is a few years old will work just fine.
What are y’all’s thoughts on clip-on thermals rather than dedicated thermal scopes? Seems like it would be beneficial for the exact scenario of being in the city full of windows during the day. “Clip on and clip off”.
I see these scenarios and I think about what SHTF in my area might be like. Most if any of the people I will cross will not have any NVG tech of any kind. Even a Sionyx Opsin or the NVG30 or even a NightFox or "NightOperator" will be a HUGE advantage here. I really don't see me, in this area, facing off with elite forces with top gear, or any gear at all.
I just picked up a AGM StingIR 384 and hollllly crap man, that thing is a game changer! I wanted some of both worlds being able to use as a clip-on as well as scanning (I run binos so no cool dual band setup for me)
Clip on certainly has its place, especially if you already have a dialed in daytime optic. However, a dedicated thermal scope does offer performance a clip on will not. That being said, that's why we love the RH25. It can fill all the roles well.
You gotta train guys its very important. Ive gotten into sticky situations right next to the security shack in Calabasas where i live at. And if it wasnt for me training who knows what would've happened.
Hybrid systems are the best based on your opinion. I think that fusion is the right way to go, since clip-on systems aren't as detailed. Funny enough, 6000$ is enough to purchase a fusion bino unit from ADNV. Best gear would be a fusion unit with an OOB laser.
Can IR from NV be seen using a common video camera with night vision? My iPhone can see IR. Would this give away anyone using an IR laser or illuminator?
You can see the source of the IR light. The higher the spectrum the harder it is to see. Although, if you were to remove the UV/IR filter from the camera itself, you would even be able to see the 1064nm laser shown in the video due to the spectrum sensitivity of CMOS sensors.
@@TATargets Yeah it's pretty cool. The reduced sound is why I started looking at Ebikes in the 1st place. Even the Storm that's one of the most capable but "whiniest" (how I describe the noise) is still hard to hear unless it's pretty close.
4:34 No offense, all the night vision guys are just normal people that wish they are spec ops. 99% of people dont have what it takes to do spec ops stuff, including me (especially) thats why i would avoid this stuff. We arent tier one operators, and even in my area you can see pretty clearly at night, i do night walks and never felt nvg were necessary unless its overcast, just my opinion
My take, as someone who has used both extensively for tracking and hunting, night vision with a laser is king. 99% of engagement, whether its a pig or a person, will be won or lost with that first round. NVG + laser allows me to navigate through the forest, find my target, and with a push of a button make a literally beam to it showing me where about my round will go. Thermal is fantastic for overwatch, honestly the best, but shooting and moving with it in any environment that isn't open field of flat range is just trash. Take this with a grain of salt as it is one dude on the internets experience, not gospel.
I think IR lasers have way more con's than pro's to the point they kinda suck. Most commercially available lasers suck with the exception of the MAWL, and the grey market has some significant pitfalls if you break your laser. I ditched mine because I couldn't justify the added weight and logistical considerations for diminishing returns. I also have experience as an infantryman conducting combat operations and I had a PVS 14 issued, but no laser and I got by just fine. Even at night, you won't have your NVG's down the entire time. I used mine to scan, and rarely left them down the entire night.
Flip the script: civie lasers are perfectly fine. There’s virtually no application for full power lasers. Laser illuminators that are eye safe are what suck. You can’t illuminate more than 50 yards. That’s why we run the DBAL D2. It uses an LED illuminator and it’s potent. We couldn’t care less about lasers.
NV will for sure get you smoked.. to anyone else with NV it looks like you are shining the brightest LED high lumen light from your position.. instantly giving away your concealment. ANYTHING that emits an IR light will give you away and get you killed! NV only works on an enemy who does not have NV - Many people dont know this.. but NV is GREAT for defeating very dark tinted windows.. you can look inside of the darkest tinted vehicles and it is lit up and as clear as day as if there was no tint at all.. and the occupants inside have absolutely NO IDEA that they are being BLASTED with 850nNm or 950Nm of intense IR LIGHT! Thermal is a much better BUT MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE option.. but I would still get both!
I'm not watching this stupid video, but you are right. They need to be used with rubber eyecups, and giving them to general infantry will result in at least one soldier not using them and creating a light source. That means you have to train with rubber eyecups which nobody does. In fact, the eye glow is ironically shown off in marketing.
The rubber eye cups are obnoxious, fall off, and get in the way of safety glasses. Thermal is what you should be concerned about. Because that doesn’t give a rip about your silly eye cups. But you do you 😂
Thermal is different. In many cases better. In some cases worse. Thermal can't look through glass, for example. No look through a window with thermal. Also, thermal can fool you on some conditions, for example if the sun heated up some area.

@@TATargets I got quite a lot of information on night vision and on thermal from many videos in the past, and I own and occasionally use a quality handheld thermal, and I still found this video interesting. Sometimes it's also good to get some repetition of information, or you can forget some details you formerly knew. And I like the style of your videos. "Infotainment". Keep on going this way!
I bought an ebike fat tire and yeah the pano plus 50deg would help with speed and on trails. As I already do it with my dtnvgs. Also I am strongly considering unfilmed green tubes because I have a set of those and the gain is just better imo under less light. I can see things versus WP and It might be my past was mostly with green in the gwot. But the white I'm losing faith in.
