NIGHT VISION OR THERMAL TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY???

It actually did pick them up, if you look closely. Night vision is good for a lot of different situations. If the target sits still you could possibly miss it, but if it's a moving one you can pick it up a lot easier with night vision. This night vision is a 1x which is no magnification but is great using 1x in scenarios that you need to walk with them on such as googles or scan an area. Thermal reads body heat and night vision doesn't so its easier for thermal to pick them up even at 800-1000 yards. You can get night vision that has magnification and I would have spotted them a bit better. They both are great though. I can't look through glass with Thermal but I can with night vision. Night vision you don't have to give your position up by using a flash light you can use an IR light which is invisible to your naked eye, which could also could have help to identify them quicker....I wasn't using the IR light until I looked through the window of the vehicle.
