The original song is actually called "I need a hero" by Bonnie Tyler. This is an edited version with a different name to avoid copyright even though they have explicit written consent to use it in the movie. The voice actor for fairy godmother sang the edited version, obviously.

Darth Luke Gaming Even the Bonnie Tyler Version was called Titled Holding out for a hero. Everyone thought it was called I need a hero as it is one of the predominate lines in the song....and it probably would have sold and done better if it had been called I need a hero.

The original "Holding Out for a Hero" song is from Bonnie Tyler. Shrek 2 did a cover with the same name.

The original holding out for a hero was done by Bonnie Tyler though Jennifer Saunders really did the song justice and an incredible cover given that she is more famous for being an actor.

Not as far as I know. This isn't the original version of the song (even without the nightcore) but it's the same lyrics and such. I used to think it was called "I need a Hero" but every time I searched it out "Holding out for a Hero" came up in the search, as well.
