God, I remember this song from years ago!

I find the way this song is made to be quite interesting... Right away, it begins with chords that are played in such a way that is meant to set one's nerves on edge, just a little. I think it's also in a minor key, but many songs like this are, I think. Then the beat of the song sounds a lot like a somewhat irregular heartbeat. This makes one's own heart to beat a bit faster, unconsciously. Then the way the woman sings it is not with the normal meter(pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables) that one would usually speak. Granted, in songs there are commonly one or two words where the meter is off (ex, "...Ready For It?"--> "...every love i've known in comparISon is a failure..." (cos normally it's comPARison, but to make it work Taylor says it the way she does etc.)), but in /this/ particular song almost every word's meter is off, intentionally. And that's to give it a genuine(ish?) feeling of insanity. Wow.. an entire paragraph and I haven't even analyzed the lyrics yet... *cracks knuckles* Onward, I suppose. Very interesting lyrics. There's one in particular that sticks out to me, but I'm not exactly certain why... "In-SA-ni-ty, the illusion of ignorance." (Any ideas about this one? (Comment, if you wish)). Another thing I found interesting is the pause near the end of the song... The beat stops completely, and you can't hear anything (I realize this happens in many songs, but the pause isn't usually as long). I thought the song was over, but clearly I was mistaken. The woman sings (acapella), "Sanity, light is peeking through the darkness / Purity, can't feel anymore of the stress / Sanity, it's already fading away / Cruelty, instincts controlling me / In-SA-ni-ty ..." For a fleeting moment, the woman feels sane. The stress of being insane is released and she feels that she can breathe freely... And in an instant, the moment of clarity is gone, and she's back to madness. The unsettling style and chords resume, and the song plays out. "In-SA-ni-ty, the weight of the air is torture / Psychopathy, don't know who I am anymore / In-SA-ni-ty, the illusion of ignorance / ..." And then the last line is different from all the previous choruses. And actually, the lyrics are different from those on the screen: "Captivity, now corruption has taken me..." After the note ends, the chords and (heart)beat continues for a few seconds. And then the heartbeat stops first, and the end chords die away. Interesting song; I like it. The scary part is when she changed it from "InSaNiTy" To "SaNiTy" It basically describes how one feels "Ahh I dont feel sad anymore" but that same anxiety and Sadness finds its way into ur heart and u realize..It never went away...it was only ur hopes that grew too much at the point. "CrUeLtY, Instincts controlling me" (Instincts...her hope went down making her realize that there isnt any escape anyways but to give in) and then she changed back again from "SaNiTy" to "InSaNiTy" Honestly it scares me But I do relate to "InSaNiTy, the illusion of ignorance"

god so many people are using the term "insane" so lightly. they don't seem to recognize that this song is about schizophrenia, which is what insanity is. i have felt many of the things said in this video, as i am schizophrenic myself, and it hurts me to see people trying to be edgy saying that they are insane when they don't even know that insanity is schizophrenia

I can relate to some of this song like: "don't know who I am anymore" And "Why don't you take a chance?" Because I wear so many masks and copy so many personalities that I don't know what's me anymore... And most people won't take a chance on me cuz I'm "weird" (so I never had a girlfriend for the 18 yrs of my life) I also relate by having that break from the depression and constant self inflicted stress just to end up restarting the cycle again... As someone with PTSD, Anxiety, DID, and Bipolar depression I can relate to this song because of the following and this is why. "This fairytale" "Nice to meet you oh, you seem familiar have I met you before?" "Don't know who I am anymore" People with DID have constantly changing view of one's self. "Why don't you take a chance" Because of my anxiety and PTSD I am too scared to do something risky that can make things better for me. "Darkness has consumes the light" No longer having hope.

I am listening to this while doing parent-assigned math homework 4 days before school starts again. Oh! And on 5 hours of sleep and with an adorable puppy who causes destruction every minute of the day, yeah. For thirty frickin' minutes. Truly, this is an accurate song.

In my point of view, I think this songs talks about the anxiety and deppression. The weight of the air, unknown about who you are, everything is hard and dull but then...a time of light and peace come, and everything is fine...but the darkness return, making a rutine about pain and repetition.
