I find it interesting how people make the monster this creature prowling around your house in these kinds of songs. Tell me, if you peer between the cracks, do you really see a monster, a shadow, a demon? Or is that just what you want it to be? In this song, you could say the monster is demons, shadows, or some creepy creature. I say the monster he's talking about is himself. The monster is all the mistakes and loneliness that has chased you into staying in your room, cornering yourself away from the world, when you remove the mask of the monster all you'll see is your mirror staring back at you. If you fight the monster by telling it to go away, it'll always come back and it hurts even worse the next time it shows up. In order to remove the mask, you have to see that these mistakes are part of you, you are the monster you see, and really, is that bad? If you can see the monster you've become, then you have a clear picture of exactly what you don't want to be and you can plan to avoid it. The only reason you can haunt yourself is because you haven't tried to move on from the pain, but you can change that and it all starts... with taking off the mask and melting the heart of stone you've carved yourself. If you made it, you can take it apart and build it to be something better, something new.
