As someone who grew in a broken home going between houses until my Dad got custody this song rings true, you don't understand why things don't work out until you're in your late teens, I didn't understand how lucky I was untill I was sixteen when my late grandmother told me everything my dad did to keep me and my brothers out of foster care.

Yeah, I wasn’t able to understand the situation my mum and dad went through before they split. I couldn’t possibly ask my sisters to tell me anything so I was kinda left in the dark as the scenes unfolded. So I had to go through life trying to figure out why they left each other’s sides 6 years ago, only until I turned 16 was I able to understand why.

My parents split up when I was 2 but it was when I was 16 and he had a go at me for not wishing him a Merry Christmas even though he didn't either, that was when I blocked him and he didn't care. I mean I last saw him when I just turned 18 and had to go to Chesterfield to meet him and all he asked bout my life was if I was in college cause if I wasn't he wouldn't have to give my mum £7.50 to take care of me.

My parents divorced when I was 2. I was very mad with them till I turned 13, I just never understood why they would get me if they’d just divorce only 2yrs after I was born and on top of that, hate each other. I’m still quite mad and I don’t think people should get children if they’re not sure they will stay together for at least some more time of their kids life as it causes so much pain to the child when both of their parents aren’t always around.

My mother broke up with my father shortly after I was born Some years later my mother married another man and then we moved together and I got a half brother Last year my mother, my half brother and I moved out and we're living alone now I see my father at weekends sometimes when I'm visiting him but it's not much I never understood what my father was doing wrong and sometimes I feel like a mistake because of the fact that they broke up shortly after I was born

This entire song resonates with me so hard, my parents were never officially married, but they had been together for over twelve years until they separated from each other when I was seven, with my mom taking me with her and even the arrangements were the same with me seeing my dad every other weekend. Listening to this now when I'm seventeen and understand why things happened the way they did, I wish my younger self heard this song to have some sort of closure and understanding instead of feeling angry or useless in a situation they couldn't assist with or have any control over. This song just really strummed a cord in my heart, and I find it oddly heartwarming.

James TW explained in a 1:12 minute RU-vid video that he came up with the song during the time he was teaching some children to play musical instruments. He found out that the parents of one of the children he was teaching were getting divorced. The child was 11 years old at the time, and James thought that he would write a song showing how the parents would explain to their son in a way he would understand, and put in a positive way the separation of a child's parents. James wanted a song that his music student and other children passing through a similar situation could listen to, to give them hope and make them realise that "what happened in life was perhaps for the best

If we think the person behind him is his sister then, maybe he got into a fight into school his father was called, then they had a talk, this is the same day they are getting divorced. So when he returns home and his sister asks him why dad and mom aren't home yet, he sings this song. An amazing brother.

For a person who's parents aren't divorced, I can't say that I understand the lyrics completely but more than half of my friends' parents' are divorced. I don't know what to say except that I feel extremely lucky to have both my parents here with me everyday. But this song still hits hard 'cause I have a stepbrother(same father different mother) and I just noticed that our father sometimes doesn't even visit him on his birthday. They meet once a year maybe, if they're lucky maybe thrice a year. I hope my stepbrother and my stepmother is doing okay. (I never saw my stepmother before so I don't know how she looks like.)

I literally cannot explain how happy I am that my parents divorced when I was a baby. For those of you who don't get it, a brief explanation: It's like really hard on kids when their parents get divorced when they're like, children or teens because they know what it feels like to have a non split family. Since my parents got the divorce finalized when I was born I have no idea what it feels like to not have a split family which in turn makes a split family normal to me.

same.. in a way.. my parents broke up a month or 2 before i was born.. didnt meet my dad before i was 14 but i have had a step dad who is the father of 2 of my younger siblings.. he was kicked out of the house when i was around 3 but he kept connections with us and eventually my siblings was born. so every other weekend my siblings and i went to his place.. we have also lived in 2 foster families for a short while cus mom got hospitalised to help with her mental problems, while step dad was in prison for theft.. and then when my dad came into my life i went to his place instead of my step dads every other weekend. so yeah split family feels normal even though i know it can be rather odd

I can hear my half brother's mum singing this to him when he was a baby even though he wouldn't understand because dad left her after mom told him that she was pregnant with me a few months later. He freaked out when she told him but mum always thought it was because he was nervous about being a dad, she never knew because he just acted like nothing happened and abandoned my brother to stay with me, but he was always agitated and anxious that she would somehow find out so they argued a lot when i was little, especially after my little brother from my mum was born, i was too young and i didn't understand why he was always so angry, it took me until 2020 to understand that he didn't ever want us to know about eachother.

I watched this a while back, and at the time i was just starting to get into the fandom where the image comes from- i recently had this recommended to me again, and realized just how much i hadn't appreciated the nightcore as much as i do now. :j In short, i guess you could say i came for the image and stayed for the song- Good job!
