Finally I was able to experience the eluding EGA version of Microprose classic - Nighthawk F-117 Stealth Fighter 2.0 thanks to ‪@pixelwings821‬ who kindly shared it after finding the copy on ebay himself. He prepared a worthy package for everyone to enjoy:

He also prepared custom box cover, so give him some love by subscribing to his channel and send him my regards ;).
Next on the list - Gunship 2000 EGA - yes, this version also exists, somewhere... If anyone is in possession of one, please let me know in the comments. I was hunting for it for years and saw it only once appearing on ebay. It's also worthy to be preserved as well.

So... On one hand the F19 vibes of the EGA palette are epic. But... The sky in the VGA Version was just sublime. This game, Dune and Jill of the Jungle were just such an awesome way to showcase vga.

There's a part of me that kinda likes this colour scheme more than the VGA version, though I miss the better animation of the VGA game. Still, I've always loved EGA graphics, this game being no exception. I especially love the look of the blue F-117. I've recently been playing a lot of this title, and I'm currently at Major rank, utilising the Lockheed F-117. I like the much heavier stealth of that fighter more than the heavier payload of the F-19. I love how satisfying it is to successfully drop free-fall bombs, even laser-guided ones. I always get a feeling of "Luke Skywalker firing into the exhaust port" when I drop those bombs. I'm usually as successful as him. Usually. ;)

I had no idea that a separate EGA version even existed! It's a shame that it wasn't bundled with the Steam and GOG releases, but at least it's available now. Kudos, PixelWings! I really like how the limited colors were utilized. The stark black and gray scenery really sells the feeling of flying in the dead of night and makes the other colors "pop" more (the blues are particularly striking). It looks like the game's performance is smoother as well!

This and F-19 Stealth Fighter were amazing back in the day. Spent countless hours without knowing what to do but as a kid it was more than enough :)

I had no idea there was a separate EGA version - I might have to install it and give it a go. Compared to the VGA version, this one looks otherworldly, but in an alluring way.

Have you heard of the nes versions of f-15 and F-117A as well? For a moment I thought some of the EGA screens are taken from it or were reused for the NES version.

I know they exist but I never tried them. I suspect they are quite limited compared to PC/Amiga versions.

Actually, the NES version of F-15 Strike Eagle is awesome, and a lot deeper than you would expect. It was my first MicroProse game ever, and what got me intrigued by that company. On higher difficulty / more realistic level you had to do weapons management underway in a subscreen. Great sound, cutscenes, music and graphics for NES. But no shared assets with this EGA version for sure. @@damsonn

Weird. F-117 didn't just let you choose VGA/EGA/etc. at startup like most games did then? It had to have its own version?

Yes, that's right. F-117 and Gunship 2000 had separate VGA / EGA versions. I guess it was more convienient / cheaper for MPS to ship it that way (less disks required for specifc version vs merged one, where probably VGA was way more numerous than EGA version). Later games (F-15 SE3, F-14 FD) were VGA only.
