I am praying for all those who are suffering in Maui and who have lost so much, and I will continue to pray.🙏🙁 It breaks my heart and brings me to tears seeing the devistation😥. I will do what I can to help for those in need by donating to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army. The U.S. government and other world leaders need to look at three promosing technologies to help combat Climate Change. They remove carbon emissions from the atmoshphere. There needs to be more than just talk because they are to many people suffering. 🙏💔

Seeing completely burnt-out houses, buildings, and cars, it's difficult to imagine searching for the bodies of those who were unable to escape. Not only have the remains been consumed by the fire's intense heat, but also the gusts of wind caused by the blaze might have scattered any remaining ashes and bones, making the task extremely challenging.

If it were me I would sell and get the heck out of this town with the dangers of what's left behind plus the sorry handling by city officials. Who wants to live in a town that water hydrants run out of water and no warnings. If they get money I would be finding a safe place to live. Many billionaires are giving money and I hope none of it goes to the people who caused all this. I've never seen such a disgusting handling of this town by the mayor and city officials. I hope we learn more in the coming months on what really happened because I don't always trust the news and reporters. If what these people say is true if I was the mayor I would be digging a hole to hide in plus the city officials who left with no regard to these people. They got out safely. Something they will have to live with the rest of their lives. I wonder if they have pets and they got out alive when many people lost theirs plus families and friends.

Politicians have been promising to take care of people during disasters (a promise no one can keep) and pledging to lift black folks and other poor people out of poverty for decades. All we have to do is keep re-electing them and keep giving them more amd more of our money. This is a huge country and experiences huge disasters that cant be avoided or fixed in 48 hours. The supreme sin is that many of our leaders are using poverty and death to keep getting richer.

What the heck is going on in Lahaina? The whole situation is strange. I talked with a woman on the phone for my job yesterday. Her family made it out but the worries of surviors are high. Police saying they are estimating 500-1000 are dead, mostly children who were at home during summer break while parents were at work. Victims do not trust FEMA because of the circumstances they've gone through and the bizarre reaction of government support systems. Why did the alarm set off accidentally years ago but NOTHING during this REAL EMERGENCY?! Victims know their land has more value than gold. They're traumatized and having to worry about the government stealing their land! This whole thing smacks of China land grab. I dont know, my "spidy senses" are going off like crazy about this whole thing.

Everytime I watch the news on this fire I just get sick to my stomach at how this was handled. Running out of water at fire hydrants and no warnings is unforgivable for city officials. I hope these people sue for everything they've lost. This town will be like a town hit by a nuclear weapon. Forever unsafe. It's hard to even comprehend the lives and animals killed in such a horrible way and a whole town destroyed and never be able to rebuild. This has been a nightmare for me so I can't even imagine how the people feel that actually went through this.

I live in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Years ago we had 40 days (less one hour) of rain. Our city and two nearby are referred to as the "mountain cities" by locals. My employee at the time worked a side job with a young woman that lost 25 members of her family. Her family contained 26 members.

I have never seen The Blind Side. Not being a football fan at all, this is the first I am hearing of Michael Orr. Conservatorships over celebrities, though, are certainly developing a bad reputation. It seems like we need to better regulate conservatorships, especially in situations in which there is money to be made from becoming a conservator. That situation seems ripe for exploitation - which means that it should be monitored and frequently reevaluated in order to protect potential victims.

As someone who has been in a conservatorship since 2014, I 100% agree. There is very little regulation on how our money can be spent for the personal purposes of the conservator. Getting the documents when you believe money is missing and/or mishandled is as easy as breaking into Ft Knox.

I feel bad for the people in Hawaii, we lost everything to a fire as well about 14 years ago. I tell everyone to video record everything you own, this will help when filling out the loss of personal items on insurance claim, Take photos of photos. we lost photos of great grand parents, grandparents, that we will never get back, keep this in another location.

Hawaii has to address this problem, to lead the nation, in addressing how the real estate industry doing such grossly unregulated price gouging that people can't afford to live in the area they were born and raised in. A great model for the future of housing in Hawaii and other places where pricing is out of control is Japan, where there is an excess of reasonable and reasonably priced housing. Lahaina is not in this position of, post catastrophe, there is a gold rush to buy up those properties, and replace the native population with high end, luxury housing and shopping which Hawaiians cannot afford. This should be illegal. The exact opposite should happen, and it will increase the affordability and incomes of Hawaiians instead of making real estate developers from outside the community rich.

such a terrible tragedy I don’t understand why especially on islands prone to hurricanes that they can’t put their power lines underground or if they have too lay them on top of the ground and build a dirt mound over them since they don’t have to worry about frost heaving the ground up they wouldn’t need to be very deep I know here in Wisconsin we have the Niagara escarpment which is solid limestone and it is on top of the ground in places and deeper in the ground in others it eventually goes under Lake Michigan and comes back above ground and creates the Niagara Falls and they have to trench through that for miles and miles to put in natural gas lines and power lines so I would think they could trench through the old lava rock that the Hawaiian islands are formed from

It is very troubling to know how unprepared La Haina's Local Government officials were to meet this type of desasterous event. It seems as if many of these very leftist officials were distracted by their constant arguing about political ideologies, than tending to the basic and vital necessities of emergency preparedness. The La Haina Emergency Services organizations such as Fire Dept, and Police Dept. Performed remarkably well considering the little support they receive local government.

LaHaina is right by the water, so how could they have run out of water? They had an entire ocean of water. They ONLY use treated fresh water against fire there?! They should have pumps near the shore which could pump up ocean water for putting out fires, for such emergencies. Maybe they will in future put in such?
