What was everyone doing before computers? That's why it's always good to have a alternative way to do things because computers obviously cannot be depended upon 100 percent.
There are a few problems with the software update: 1. Obviously, testings weren’t adequately done in a test environment before the update went live. 2. The disaster recovery plan wasn’t designed or executed correctly, where a system rollback wasn’t done to restore the system to the previous state before the update. This is the nightmare that jolts the IT and Software Quality Assurance team awake at night. But nothing can ever be error free, especially when it comes to Information Technology. It will happen again.
My company has this software, and if you click something *it happens.* No verification. One time my screensaver started to kick on so I wiggled my mouse and clicked to stop it... and I clicked a button that deactivated somebody's account lol
We were travelling through Death valley where there is no even coverage and out of nowhere my iphone screen went all dark and did not react on anything, after some time it lit and said your update is complete, please connect either to lap top or wifi. IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!!! Good that my husband has Samsung phone. Only when we got to a hotel i could activate my phone. I will never own any apple product again
@@bambinaforever1402 Well, this had to do with Windows, not Apple. I never had a MAJOR problem with either one. Anyway, that doesn't sound like a virus... more like one problem with Apple, is yes, they are sneaky about updates. You never quite know when you need one, and they are liable to decide for you.
...which is why I didn't adopt Windows 10. With 7 I could review every individual update to check for bugs or malware. In all that time I never had a serious issue other than an occasional bSOD because of a bad Nvidia video driver which was easy to fix by just rolling back ti the previous one that worked..
@@bcshelby4926 Using Windows 11...updates turned off. You can view every update before doing it. My computer works just fine, and whatever caused this never found me.
@@bcshelby4926 You can still review your updates before installing them; I'm on Win 11, because I had no choice. I've never had a problem, except for this past year, when a Win 10 wasn't update updating it's security update correctly; it was subsequently fixed.

Still stunned that an external cybersecurity company had the ability to load proprietary drivers on so many corporate machines, all at once, and remotely -- and at the kernel level! That may sound normal to some in IT Infrastructure, but those of us who've worked User Services can tell you that's a stupid move; as there is always a strong possibility something will go very wrong. It would have been smarter to first roll this out to far fewer machines, in a testing phase. Global outage or not, I am jaw-dropped that CrowdStrike did this in a blanket rollout. This multibillion dollar, Austin-based cybersecurity company needs to be held accountable. And a handful of nobodies loosing their jobs is the least of what should happen here.
Forced updates are one of the reasons I'm abandoning Mircrosoft. Once W10 dies I'll become fully Linux. Nope... Apple and Google are just worse flavors of the same soup.

Why did people have surgery cancelled. It’s literally just going back to paper charting.. I did 3 surgeries yesterday and did my records on paper just like we used to do before computers ruled.. scary to see how crippled life is without tech
And many companies blindly pushed this update within their networks before verifying it. They are too trusting of updates or a lot of lazy IT workers got exposed

..the one thing I love and miss about Windows 7 and Server 2008 as this type of situation would likely not have occurred as it was easier to screen updates before applying them. This is one of the reasons I refused to adopt Win 10 for years as at the outset users had little control over the process. I could review each and every update individually to scan for bugs and malware. That went away with Microsoft's move to its "Windows as a service" model. Over the years that I have worked with Windows7 I never had a serious issue save for an occasional "blue screen" often caused by a "buggy" Nvidia driver update I could easily roll back from. In their "holy quest" to "protect" people form malware infection, Microsoft dropped the ball when it came to more experienced users and IT staff as we were treated like children. --------------- Now the Convair 880 "Lisa Marie" was used by Elvis. I remember it flying over my house on approach to the Madison WI airport for a concert there.

It was a nightmare earlier this evening when I try to use my bank card after we had dinner, the casihers couldn't process our card, and it turns out to be they also had a bit of a problem with other customers as well, I ended up calling my bank and even then our connections kept getting disrupted many times over and the banker kept appolizing, said their systems were down. Evenutnally the manager finally excepted what little cash we had on hand which didn't even covered the cost of the dinner we had.
Didn't anyone think that that this "could" happen? These "genius" people who work on computers should have considered this .....to have a backup system is simply absurd even if it's an old system "that works".

I’m retired as of January. But we always had a workaround if the was a power outside. We had manual contracts; we didn’t like them we were spoiled we could mess them up by mistake… as in being thorough. And they had to be inputted when the system came back up. Yep running companies lean on automation has its drawbacks.
This experience makes me want to take all of my money, my $5 lol out of the bank and resort to the old hole in the backyard or hidden in the house. I don't trust this technology at all
What good is paper money if there’s no system in place to validate it? Our system is ll electronic now. Better find something of survival value to hoard instead.
So Crowdstrike Security caused the Issue not Microsoft , yet the focus was the line of code in the Windows System , which made the whole story sound like a vulnerability of Microsoft , only because the Security Update was done at a time and way unorthodox to its Programming Procedure . This happened last year as well . Lets hope heads will roll for this ( Again ) . Thanks Crowdstrike ( The name is applicable ) .
Fun fact. The Elvis Jet was boughy by a youtuber that goes by Jimmys World and was put on a motorhome chassis. He is driving it to Oskosh for the air show. He has tons of videos on it 😎
