My mom had 8 kids, we were never in "child care". We had a babysitter when they went out dancing. But my blue collar step-dad's job and my mom's genius thrift, we lived well. She was at home playing the piano when I came home from school. Choc cookies in the over. Never burned because she knew how long the piano piece was.

In many places, you can make $18 per hour working at McD's. Why put in all the effort to be a childcare provider for that? On the other hand, in the featured family it would be fairly easy for them to work opposite shifts or one work during the week and one weekends IF they both wanted to work.
It's sad when a well educated couple with good jobs can't afford child care. My sil stays home and my daughter works because her job had the best medical coverage. They aren't struggling because their home is paid off but so many families are.

Wait, let me get this straight, you want the American people to provide child care funds for your children? Isn't it enough that we are already paying for their basic education and for many their health care through Medicaid, school lunches, etc. If you want children, they are YOUR responsibility to pay for them. I chose not to have children, I should not have to pay for yours. I don't expect you to pay my student loans off, either.
I believe them if they're saying they're struggling, and I highly doubt the figure you're sharing is applicable to the story here. With that said, they had time to do the math, it shouldn't have been a surprise. The sad reality is they probably shouldn't have moved into the home they're in if their overhead is unsustainably high.

I don't agree with Romney politics. But, I respected the fact that he stood up to Trump. For him to say that Biden should pardon Trump is laughable. Big guy, little guy, if you're about the truth the trial should stand. I think he's bending to political powers by making such a statement. About time to subsidize childcare, the old model is still based on the mother being at home, and children are already subsidized with public school. I think they should be municipally managed not private, I can't think of one example where the govt is paying a private company with good outcomes

Abortions no longer allowed to help those in this type of unfortunate situation. Unexpected and unplanned pregnancies happening for thousands of years. Birth control does not always work for a woman. Best in today's society if a man gets a vasectomy. Cheap, easy procedure and the male can always reverse when he feels he is ready to start a family.

I agree. No one is going to love and guide your child like a parent. Our social breakdown has been going down hill ever since we were encouraged to go into the workplace. That was 60 yrs ago.

I was just thinking back over the years…when mothers were urged to enter the work place and you could be somebody…and not stuck at home. I was a believer…back then…but I would take a different path, if I could do it over.
If they can afford to... or have situations in which they can bring child along, but I don't think that exists in a busy hospital. But what if they hospital provided childcare, and the employees paid thru their benefits? The college I went to provided child care on campus. It can be done (or at least it could then).
