HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO NIGHTMARE NED!
It's been 20 years since the release of Nightmare Ned! Throughout those years I've been trying to beat the game, uncover all of the hidden secrets, as well as reveal the exciting animations and dialogue. This is definitely one of my favourite games of all time and is something that I'm happy to be sharing with the gaming community. With added custom frames (created by myself) to enhance the "nightmare" experience as well as a compilation of extras at the end of the video, I'm hoping that everyone will be able to enjoy this game as much as I have as I celebrate the 20th Anniversary. I also want to thank all of Nightmare Ned's cast and crew who made this incredible game possible. This game has changed my life and inspired me more than I can say. I hope that one day Nightmare Ned will find a way to resurface back onto current game platforms/consoles.
Thank you for watching and enjoy the game!

This was one of the most disturbing and difficult games I had when I was a kid. I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do, and just wandered around these nightmares aimlessly. It really was like a nightmare. Atmosphere gets an A+... For some reason I woke up today and thought of this game so I came and RU-vidd it.

The creators made this about as violent and disturbing as they could for a kid's game. The episodes of the show are not nearly as graphic. Also, I remember even as a kid thinking the controls were clunky and the actual gameplay vague. The art and sound obviously make up for it though.

@@toweringsequoias1590 but at least it would solve the major problem this game has playing on modern computers. (Actually worse than any other old game that I've encountered) virtual boxes, changing directory and executable files, it almost feels random when it finally starts to work. If you look it up on abandonwear sites, you can see people who took months just to get it to install correctly much less play. So that's pretty much the only thing that I would really like out of a proper release.

If you complete the underground funeral segment where your parents are zombies (dont destroy them but just hit their arms to complete the ladder) and climb back up, the demon shows himself as Ned's grandpa, saying he shouldn't be worried for him to die, there's lots of things to do while he is still alive). I think that is so awesome.

You made those?! I thought they were like some kind of hidden texture buried deep within the game's files that you somehow discovered. Nonetheless, you did a really great job making these. It’s almost like Courage the Cowardly Dog is in a kangaroo monster’s mouth and he’s found out that it’s teeth start to decay when they hunt for prey in the Jurassic period at the History Museum, so he decided to help out the kangaroo monster with dental care and look real closely at the vein in each tooth that has bacteria or an infection so that his nightmare will be back to normal. It’s another one of Courage’s nightmares just like I saw his own nightmares in “perfect”. And I first saw a kangaroo monster in “The transplant”.

this game is so eclectic and fun. there's so much in the way of easter eggs, animations, and mixed media! I love stopmotion videogames or games using stopmotion or clay animated sequences, and the portion with the locker was such a delightful surprise. I had a veryyyyy vague memory of seeing the trailer of ned in his bedroom hiding under the bedsheets as a kid, probably from the jungle book vhs i saw people mention in the trailer of the game itself video on youtube. i wish more games had this much personality, especially now.

I played this as a kid too and it scared me so much but I was able to overcome it because Ned never actually "dies" in the game so it wasn't as scary for me (still pretty dang freaky though!). The graveyard level was the scariest one for me because there was so much going on. I was afraid of the dentist level and always had my fingers ready to press the spacebar when the dentist showed up lol. The bathroom and school levels were the least frightening of them all in my opinion. I liked playing the chalkboard level a lot as a kid because the song was so funny. :D

You're a hero! I tried everything I possibly could to fix the Medical Nightmare speed glitch with the playthrough that I did last Halloween (and also have uploaded to RU-vid) but sadly didn't succeed. This is the first I've seen it at the proper speed in an incredibly long time! Thank you so much for doing this playthrough and uploading it in honor of the 20th anniversary! The artwork you did for the sides of the video that change depending on the nightmare is beautiful too! :) I really wish an actual 20th anniversary edition of the game that runs on modern computers would be released, unfortunately we may never see Disney acknowledge Nightmare Ned ever again, which is such a shame. At least there's other folks like you out there who want others to remember the game and "keep it alive" in a way, which makes me so happy. :D Keep up the amazing work and let's make sure Nightmare Ned is never forgotten!

I was able to get the game running on Windows 10 by using Windows XP Mode and Oracle Virtual Box (and watching a RU-vid video) but the game ends up with the super speed glitch and I'm not sure how to fix it as well as the audio sounds fuzzy. If anyone wants to know how to get Windows XP Mode on Windows 10 refer to this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--MzLFnf9qho.html If you have a copy of Nightmare Ned - put the CD in your computer before starting up the Virtual Computer and then make sure you host the CD drive and you should be able to see the CD there (I might make a video on this later for anyone having trouble). Then you can install the game and it will run but it will have the super speed glitch in the bathroom level (falling rats) and the surgeon level when you're on the gurney/getting your organs back. It's not a 100% solution getting the game to run but it's playable. And I love the music in this game! I'd love to make video game music in the future, though I've got a lot to learn about music I used to tinker around with Logic Pro when I was in college and that was a lot of fun.

This game haunted me as a kid, so much so that I never finished it. Time has definitely given me a unique perspective on this game though. Though it’s simple, I think the good ending represents Ned conquering his fears and when he wakes up, he becomes a stronger person from that point on. The bad ending represents what happens when you don’t face your fears, though Ned confronted his fears(beat the game)he did not conquer his fears and continued to act as a frightened little boy constantly yelling for his mother. It’s important to note that the deciding factor between the two endings is time. Go back or get sent back to the quilt more than 8 times(8 hours)and technically you lose. Translation, you cannot live in fear for too long without it changing you for the worst. So please, take risks, try things that may seem scary, grow as a person, and above all else, don’t be afraid! Time also gives you a unique perspective on your fears. For example, now that I’ve watched this game walkthrough, I don’t know what I used to be so scared of!
@deemondh7326
@deemondh7326 Год назад
I like your interpretation of this entire game. After watching the entire game from start to finish, I can say that there is a lot of visual symbolism behind the inner fears of Ned Needlemeyer. The graveyard obviously represents his fear of death and possibly the loss of loved ones. The school could symbolize the anxiety and worry of fitting in, finding new friends, getting through school work, etc. The doctor/dentist might represent the fear and uncertainty of the medical procedures that Ned might have to face whenever it is an essential for him. The toilet is an interesting one, since I can not really pin point what it truly represents besides the possibility of Ned believing some disturbing stories he might have heard from his peers regarding the urban legends of the sewers. In the attic and basement level, Ned’s fear of the dark and unknown seem to be quite visible along with the intertwining tales he may have heard or read about regarding black cats, lost items containing unsettling contents and other fear related paraphernalia with those two locations. At the end, if the player gets the good ending, you may notice that the giant monster was Ned the entire time. Possibly a symbolic representation of his entire psychological fears being an internal struggle that only he alone can address to free himself from the heavy burden that fear can induce.

@@deemondh7326 YES YES YES! Exactly how I see it, though I see the bathroom level to more about his fear of growing up and what puberty entails(hence the puberty song)what with it including the time that will be spent in the bathroom taking care of acne, body hair, etc and he could be terrified of aging into something…undesirable. Like the toilet said at the end, a mirror cannot reflect the boy inside. It’s a shame there isn’t more to the ending because I remember the game being long as a kid and always hoped for something satisfying but I’m glad that as an adult we can draw our own conclusions like this.

@@angel_in-black Now that I think about it, regarding your interpretation of the bathroom level, it makes more sense regarding Ned’s fear of aging into puberty and transitioning from a boy to a man. Puberty can be, for many kids, an intimidating prospect when one isn’t sure about how your body will react to such hormonal changes. I also must say that there was one minor observation that I had failed to take notice as a kid, but only now see as a reason for Ned’s appearance regarding the lack of hair on his head. During the bathroom level, there is one section that requires the player to jump over an obstacle of toilets with monsters and elements coming out to attack Ned. Well, at the end of the section, in order to exit the area, the player will see a pack of ferocious looking hair clippers that need to be neutralized before the player can leave the area. It got me thinking that it could be plausible that Ned might have a fear of the barber shop or hair clippers in particular which gives a reason for his hair being extremely short to the point of making him appear bald. His mom might be the one who clips his hair when he thinks it may be getting a bit long for his comfort. I definitely agree with you that the ending could have been expanded further with Ned confronting his inner fears and how it helped him in his daily life during the post credits. That would have been very interesting and satisfactory to say the least. Funnily enough, I was able to complete the entire game when I turned eighteen during the summer months. Incidentally, I also completed the original pc game of American McGee’s Alice in Wonderland. It was a fun and satisfying end to my high school days before I started college that fall.

@@deemondh7326 Yes, we’re on the same page! I got the game when I was 8 or 9, and my sister and I bonded over playing computer games together and we could not complete the medical level. I honestly don’t know how we beat the school and attic levels because I honestly don’t remember those boss fights and some of those locations. I think we just needed one more piece of the medical level and we couldn’t figure it out(obviously I know now)so we put it on the shelf and moved on. So watching this was a completion of an unfinished childhood chapter, and seeing the ending is nice though I can confidently say, I wouldn’t have been satisfied as a kid either. But like I said, it scared me as a kid, I remember the actual nightmares it gave me, and now I don’t see what I was so afraid of. Sure, as a kid things can seem larger in scale than they actually are, but maybe it’s because I never got into any horror stuff growing up.

I can see this being a pretty decent game on the switch considering I see so many indie + spin off game on there. It just need a good remaster like the frame rate for sure, the animation + graphics could use a little work and as for the lighting maybe a little bit but it’s pretty spooky by itself already but a little touch doesn’t hurt. Ya there’s a bit more I’d like to talk about but you’ll get my point.

Wow! Great Playthrough!! I remember when I first played this game back when I was like 4, on a Windows 98 Machine. Then when I was 6 we got a Windows Vista (which luckily it still worked on without having to do anything) and that is where I did most of my playing and eventually completed it. Then in 2014 I upgraded to Windows 8.1, and guess what didn't work... Took me about a year before I found a way to get it to work again, which still wasn't an easy process. Had to use Virtual Machine Software and install a legal copy of Windows XP Pro on it to get this game to work again. This game brings back great memories! It's been about a year since I've played it, I should try my luck at it again!! I hope they do a Remaster of this someday, that would be great.

Thank you! I definitely have a lot of fond memories of playing this game as a kid and I'm happy I was able to play it again today. I really hope they do a remaster of it as well! (Haha, I'm an artist hoping to get into video game development so if they need an extra set of hands I'd be more than willing to help!) Maybe there will be a remaster for the 25 year anniversary? It's hard to say - but Creative Capers still exists and they're still making games! So there's a chance!

The music in this game was definitely very unique and ominous! I feel like when you listen to the music separately from the game (not to sound too cliche) but it really does feel like the music kind of takes you on a haunting journey. I also really think the Attic, Basement, and Beyond level music was heavily inspired by Fur Elise Fur Elise - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_mVW8tgGY_w.html Nightmare Ned (Attic, Basement, and Beyond) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j8l6uN7GlU0.html

SilentNoise I'm kind of surprised that they included it. I mean look at it! Veins, blood in the teeth, filth, worn down teeth, the background, and when you meet the witch the room looks super disturbing. However, I did like the uvula song. But still, who has a mouth looking like that?! And once again, THE TEETH ARE BLEEDING. IN A KIDS GAME!!
@SilentNoisePlays
@SilentNoisePlays 6 лет назад
Lol the Uvula song constantly gets stuck in my head. It definitely wouldn't pass for an 'E' rated game today but probably a 'T' rated game. I think the struggle with this game is that it's focused on the fears that kids have (which is a great plot for a game) but then it's targeted to be played by kids. It's good for overcoming fears once you've completed the game but it's a little too intense for kids. I think having a 'T' rating and targeting the game more towards teens and young adults would've made it more successful (or relaunching it now for that audience). For instance, Little Nightmares has a kid as the main character but it's rated 'T' so then they can continue with the plot and then go as scary as they want. The teeth level and then the enemy at the top of the tree in the graveyard alone should make it be a 'T' rated game. I just hope this game gets some sort of relaunch in the future because I think it deserves a second chance with the right audience. That could also give it the potential to be more difficult too!
@tadkratzer6261
