Yes, everybody has that same awareness regarding movies. After the 1990s, everything went downhill, not only the movies, but the music, the clothes fashions, the colorfulness of the cities, the creativity and intellect, just everything you can think of. I am so glad that I am not the only one who realizes this. Everything has been dumbed down.

survivaltrekker I totally agree, although for me everything started changing at the end of the 80’s. I was class of 1985 and I feel like I’m on another planet these days. I miss the old days so much....❤️

The 90s was the time of understated elegance in fashion. Jewel tones replaced neon and pastel. Neutral tones instead of super bold colors of the 80s. I enjoyed both eras, but once the 200s came, everything turned cheap and raunchy.

Wow I remember watching this movie the night it aired on tv with my mom (either 1989 or 1990) we had seen the promos for it and were psyched to watch it. I was around 6 or 7 and funny enough this movie stuck with me over the last 29 years. I could never remember the title just a hotel with a hidden 13th floor and that creepy decor. Did some Google searches and now here i am! Good to see this again :)

Same here!!! I was 10 when this aired in 1990. A while back, I went on a mission to find and stream this old movie somehow. I had a hard time finding it at first because I was mistakenly searching under “MURDER” on the 13th floor. I was finally able to remember it was actually NIGHTMARE on the 13th floor. Just finished watching it and it was just as scary and creepy as it was when I originally seen it in 1990. Sometimes movies from this era don’t hold up well. This one was still scary after all these years.

In Detroit, with older buildings, the 13th floor is labeled the 14th floor, but in some buildings, it just doesn't have any tenants, because in reality, no matter what number you label it, it is still the 13th floor. The elevator door opens and you see zero activity. It's kind of funny how seriously that is taken in the secular world. So, we're not always so secular after all. It's quaint in a way.

I love this movie. I think the 13th floor in number and in its heavy red damask traditional wallpaper represents our deepest fears that we keep hidden. This is also helped through the dim lightening which is such a contrast compared to the lower floors of the hotel like a place somewhere far beyond our reach or realm. Everything on the 13th floor represents the past and increases this cozily warm but frightening effect which reaches its climax.

Late 80s/ early 90s movies were not quite the Hitchcock type....but yet many appreciate them!

movies like this is the proof you don't need Gore, extreme violence, blood & special effects to make a decent movie..just a decent storyline suspense & a small twist..not bad at all

The only reason I watched this was because of the wonderful Louise Fletcher. She is a great actress.

It was for the longest time one of my recurring dreams, the elevator, the red wallpaper and gas lamps... And the dread of being there.

I would like to book a room on the13th floor of the famous Cecil hotel and take the elevator and push all the buttons down just like Elisa in the year 2013,too crazy!

This movie didn’t make me scared of all elevators but there is one slow elevator at my work with the same type of gate and that one freaks me out when I ride in it even though it’s only for 2 floors (service elevator)

@@nightfall9371 when Elaine was in that elevator and it fell three floors. Just gives me more reason not to ride elevators. That will cause anyone to piss their clothes.
