Here I do a blind reveal of my first PSA submission in years. 24 vintage cards and grades that leave me scratching my head and wondering if I will continue to submit with PSA at all. My eBay Store: www.ebay.com/str/brinkscollec...
🤣😅🤣😅Love it! I don't claim that I never curse, but I have kids. When I'm watching videos or streams with them I'm always worried about what might be said - I do try to be family friendly with my content. Thanks for watching!
imagine going to have your car inspected and the inspector says your car is in top notch condition and since your car is in top notch condition we have to charge you 10 times the original fee.
Vintage is always tough, even when I look over all cardsI'll still miss something but those cards are now protected from further damage which is awesome imo. Thanks for sharing the video!
I know now why PSA keeps running so many vintage card specials, since no one will ever be a repeat customer on vintage again, they are trash with no consistency
LOL - another one for me. Bruce was a little before my time for the bulk of his career so even if I did watch a lot of ESPN to catch the experts talking about the players I probably still would have missed it.
It's hard for me to disagree with this one. I think I made my feelings on these grades pretty clear. Look for another reveal on a group I sent in on this same special in the near future. Thanks for watching!
I am experiencing the same thing on vintage. REALLY tough grades, however, I received back a 1961 Topps Bob Gibson that came back a PSA 4. I cracked it out, resent it to PSA and it came back a PSA 6 so it jumped up two grades. That shows the inconsistency in grading. Another example of grade changes is there is a 1981 Topps Joe Montana for sale on Heritage Auctions that is a PSA 10. You can tell from the PSA number and older label the card was graded a while ago. Looking at the centering alone PSA would likely not grade it higher than an 8. High grades with vintage that are recently graded command a very high premium since people know the grading is more strict.
It’s the consistency, for sure, that is the most frustrating. And then unfortunately most of the cards from this particular submission don’t warrant the expense of resubmitting. I have another sub video coming out soon that I do quite a bit better on, which really only serves to add evidence of inconsistency. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! It might be tough to go over all the cards as I've already moved on from quite a few of them. What I can say, though, is that in general I didn't actually MISS things, it was more a 'to-what-extent' disagreement. For example I thought the corners and surface made one of the '81 Montana RCs a 4, they said 2. One that really bit me was that Score Aikman - I couldn't find what I missed. In future, I am going to be doing more deep-dive preview videos to really explore the cards prior to sending them off.
Just for the content, I would love to see you crack each one of these and submit again, just to see. The grader was tough, no doubt, but a couple of them I think they were accurate. Thanks for posting this, people need to see the highs and lows of grading.
Thanks for watching! While some of these cards are already gone, I've actually got 4 that I'm leaning towards resubmitting just for the exercise. Stay tuned!
I will be honest - I'm not completely sold on AI grading. Namely, I am a really hard sell on computers grading the surface of cards properly. Die-cut, embossed, framed, glossy, vintage stock, felt, acetate, foil - the list goes on and on that I just can't imagine AI getting correct. And that doesn't even count printing 'stuff' like fish-eyes. I am totally down with a program used to measure dimensions, centering, stuff like that though. It's a tough one, for sure....
Hopefully everyone sending in their best vintage cards are taking photos of all of them before mailing em away. I've already seen dozens of videos where the uploaders accused PSA of switching their card for a worse one. To me, knowing grading is horrible for the business, PSA switching & stealing should be treated as a Federal offense. With the Postal Service being used as a tool to steal.
Sheesh they could have given you some anesthesia before ripping your sack off. Have you ever tried to prescreen your cards with the shoebox app it’s helped me a lot.
I have not - will have to check it out! I’ve got another PSA video that I’ll be uploading soon that I do way better on. I’m not sure if I was just rusty or if I have a legitimate bone to pick with PSA and their consistency. The jury is still out but definitely leaning hard one way. Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
I’ve been hearing a lot of trasshhhh grades from psa lately… I know someone who sent in a Arenado auto that was superrr clean, like easily a 9 minimum, if not a 10. First submission, psa 6, 2nd sub psa 5…. Sent it to BGS….. 9.5 with 10 auto. Like what the hell?!?!…. I’ll never be able to get behind grading until humans are not involved in it… we are emotional decision makers. And extremely fallible… that and I think getting charged more for a card that is of higher value is wild… they shouldn’t even been thinking about a cards value… that to me is wild…
Lots of collectors with that sentiment out there. My two biggest qualms personally with grading companies: 1) consistency 2)lack of grade explanation/clarification Thanks for watching!!
Just found your channel and have been watching some of your videos. Really enjoy them. That being said, you seem to have a misunderstanding of how centering effects grading. A few cards that surprised you were badly off centered top/bottom. Good channel 👍
Thanks for watching! I definitely have been known to get distracted by sharp corners and clean edges. I need to get more critical on centering and surface issues probably.
Last years 10 is todays 7. Honestly, there should be a big premium on high grade vintage graded in last year or so. To get a 10, the card probably has to be BGS black label quality
Fingers crossed for you, my friend! I've got another video dropping soon with much better results, but the consistency seems to be all over the place these days. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching, and I agree - scarcity of higher grades (especially vintage) should demand higher prices. Additionally, there are some really good looking 6 to 8 grade cards out there and vintage is just a different world than modern cards. That being said, I stand by my statement that this sub returned harsh grades, and I do question PSAs consistency. I sent in the other PSA sub in the other reveal vid right around the same time, and feel I judged both lots with the same standards. The grades were miles apart. It’s all part of the game, though, and I’m just trying to have some fun and share the experience.
This is exactly why I only use PSA for ultra modern cards. All my older cards go to SGC. In all my experiences with SGC, they've always given honest grades.
That was the first submission I received back from PSA in like 3 years - it was really a test run to see how things may or may not have changed. Probably 75% of my cards do go to SGC as well. I think that they are overall harder in the 2-9 range, but I like the fine-tuned 9-10 pristine range. In general my experience says that while I have documented SGC inconsistencies, they do tend to be the most consistent overall. Thanks for watching!
Jay - most of these are. I'm not super slick with integrating all my platforms or navigating the socials yet, but I've been on the 'bay since 1998. You can find me there under seller futbolb13 OR you can hit me up on IG at jbscardshow. Thanks for watching!
@@jbscardshow UGH - Only 2 are still there. Looks like the rest already sold. I just found your channel and this video. Says 12 days ago - but ,Amy of those cards sold in May.
Jay - yeah, I am only just working through a little older footage as I learn Davinci Resolve for my content creation. I hope to someday get to the point where I am uploading more regularly and up-to-date with everything I have. I do also stream on Whatnot (same username as here), and so between that and the 'bay I move through good inventory pretty quickly. That being said I have close to a million cards and not everything I have in-hand is listed. A lot of my vintage (mostly 70s-early 80s) set building material is easier to get through DM lists to me.
Ugh. Sorry for you on that one. I'm guessing a crack and resub would improve but who wants to go through that? Like someone else below said, for the content.
While I have been grading with all members of the Big 3 for 12 years or so, SGC tends to get the bulk of my cards these days. Look for a deep-dive opinion piece breaking down my view of the major grading companies in the future. Thanks for watching!
Always remember (and nothing personal), the "A" in PSA stands for Ass.....which is the object that MOST people get taken UP when doing this grading card crap.
Nice catch - the Aikman was one of my biggest head scratchers in this one. Out of the half-dozen or so Aikmans (plus various Sanders and others) that I've subbed - that one was the worst result.
Yeah, yeah ,yeah, lol! Already been called out for it, and will correct it in future. My long winding life story made short: 1) Bruce was really before my time 2) He never played for any of my teams 3) I basically didn't have TV growing up until 11th grade to watch sports/ 4) I still really don't watch sports. I played sports, and find them hard to watch - my brain won't let me retire yet. So Sutter's won't be the last name I butcher, but I have no problems being corrected. In fact, to this day I don't know if I pronounce my all-time favorite player's name correctly (Biggio). I'm awful, but thanks for watching!!
Thanks for watching! That card actually sold already. I bundled it with the SGC 6.5 '81 Roger Craig I had and found what I assume is a 49ers fan a little while back, lol. You can generally check my eBay store for what slabs I do have for sale. Obviously some end up in the PC and some sell pretty quicky, but there are still plenty there. Again - thanks for watching!
I have a feeling that I'm going to end up saying it about 1000 times - it's the consistency (or lack thereof) that is so frustrating. That being said, I choose to participate and take the risk. I feel your frustration, though. Thanks for watching!
I'm not sure if you mean that I should re-sub the cards? That's a tough pill to swallow when most of this submission was cards that I only pegged at $30-$100 value in the grades I thought they should get. I very rarely crack and resub or do crossovers - I get what I get and try to move on most of the time. That being said I do regrade a few of a friend's cards at his request in some of my SGG subs. I've got some more detailed videos coming out on that to. Thanks for watching!
I would break them all but a couple back open i hate to say it. I just dont think grading is fair or honest anymore! I really and truly believe that influencers that spend several thousand a month get greased and i also think theres relationship biased as well going on!! Theres NOBODY that will or can change My opinion. You can have a microscope and all the grading tools at Your Personal desposal and make educated (likely just as good if not some cases better) but if you catch the wrong grader or who knows one having a bad day You are at Their Mercy! I think there should be a modified computer technique that You can go into a walmart or atleast local hobby shops that are in the program spend X amount to insert the card let the computer do its thing for 20 min 1/2 hour and wallah! No biased no comps to set individuals ect…
Thanks for watching! While most of the card from this sub were barely worth one submission fee, re-grading is a tough pill to swallow. That being said, I think I'm eyeballing four cards I still have and I might just do a re-sub documenting. Stay tuned...
I do believe that SGC is more consistent - I've got quite a few SGC reveal vids as well. I re-subbed 4 cards from this lot with pretty telling results - check out the 80's PSA reveal video. Thanks for watching!
Great cards to have in a collection. Sorry about the grades. PSA seems to be getting more and more strict. Is it population control? Who knows for sure. High grades are tough to get. Thanks for posting the video. The format and commentary are good - like talking with a collecting buddy.
The more reveals from PSA I see the more I'm going to keep commenting that they MUST change grading descriptions if they continue to grade like this. You have past experience grading with PSA and they are vastly under grading cards lately. That's stealing from customers. Not sure if new graders are unable to grasp the differences in textures and card stocks or blatant pop control.
The majority of my subs head to Boca Raton. I do agree that SGC is probably the most consistent in the marketplace at the moment, but I've got a few resubs (even shown on the channel) that have seen up to 1.5 point swings. (And that doesn't include the 1976 George Brett that I cracked, cleaned wax, and resubbed for a 2.5 point gain). I've had a couple disappointing SGC reveals, but nothing like this one...
Sure do - keep in mind my pre-grades on this lot ranged mostly from 4 to 9 (I thought the '84 Donruss Van Slyke RC might have a shot at 10), so I wasn't looking at Gems here. Per PSA standards centering for a 9 can be as low as 65/35 on the front and 90/10 on the back (70/30 for an 8). Now, I definitely have over looked a centering issue or two in the past when I get blinded by some razor sharp corners, but even after reflection I don't think it was centering misses on this lot. If you see something specific I did miss - point it out! I'm always trying to improve my own pre-grading skills. That being said, I've got another reveal vid coming out soon with another vintage lot that I think is really going to cause some head scratching. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Stay tuned. Some are already gone, but there are a few I have in hand still. I didn't take pre-grade photos on these ones, so I've got a decision to make on how big of a glutton for punishment I might be.... Thanks for watching!
@@jibcoolio7 The worst one I've ever had. I've had some big misses over 12+ years of submissions, but this was by far the roughest overall. Appreciate you watching!
Please please please! Start taking pictures of your cards before you send them in. Unless it is serial numbered. I would save the pictures for my own reference, but just to show that you are not messing around I would include the pictures of your cards in the PSA package you send them. I believe that they are swapping cards sometimes, not all the time but possibly sometimes. I see too many people that question why they sent this card or that card, and sometimes people can't remember what their card looked like before they sent it to PSA. It wouldn't be hard for crooks that grade cards to swap out your card for one of their own, or even possibly mistake your card for someone else's card.
Thanks for watching, and I appreciate that sentiment! I've been grading for so long without documenting my cards prior that it was just habit (and blind trust). As I've started doing the reveal (and now preview) videos you can be assured that I will definitely be expanding my own documentation process and I am interested to see how things go. Prior to creating any content, I can say that some cards came back with obvious flaws that I don't remember seeing before they were slabbed. Now, all that being said I choose to participate in the whole operation, so I never intend to come off as suspicious, angry, whiny, etc. Everything I do is in good fun and I'm just hoping that it's a little entertaining and other collectors can learn something from my experiences.
PSA has loss all credibility with me. I’m leaning more & more too SGC. SGC IS MORE RELIABLE AND ACCURATE ON GRADING. I THINK PSA IS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT P O P Report
Ohp.. here's another confused and disappointed person with their PSA reveals. BOYCOTT PSA! They offer no explanation as to why a card received a grade less than ten. In the future these cards against BGS or SGC will sell for less.
I am definitely curious to see how the future of card grading and realized slab prices plays out for sure. Been playing the game for over ten years now.
All part of the game, and for your entertainment, LOL. In all seriousness any recent post-pandemic PSA submission I have made was testing the waters. As someone who was subbing for years prior to the explosion, I was not optimistic in their ability to scale ad keep consistency of standards. Draw your own conclusion there....
Oh, not just once - quite a few times. Bruce was a bit before my time, and I rarely watch TV or actually heard his name pronounced. I've been corrected and it won't be the last time, lol. Thanks for watching!
Ive had over 200 cards graded at psa in the last 6 months at $19 per card and i would say they ungrade by 1 grade on 30% of them. 65% graded where they should have been and 5% graded higher. I think they have to many new graders to meet the insane growth in grading and they just are not accurate. If you are used to grading ultra new cards you may not be the best at vintage. Vintage cards have different paper stock and issues. That said, you got screwed! The grades you got were rediculous
I've been grading long enough that results like you've stated are typical. A lot of what I send in is expected 7-9 type stuff, so when I'm getting 2s to 5s, YIKES! Appreciate the sentiment, and thanks for watching!
Only send into PSA if you believe your cards will get a 10. Those were 40 year old cards bro. Many of those had surface issues. That’s why you got low grades.
