No. NiGHTS might be refeered by male pronouns, but NiGHTS is actually an androgynous being up to the player to interpret people, both Yuji Naka and Takashi Iizuka already confirmed that.
I remember that this game was at my sleep away camp's canteen. No one could figure out how to play it because the older kids hogged the game and skipped the tutorial. XD We also had constant arguments about the gender of NiGHTS. I thought they were a girl, but everyone else was like- "No, they dress NiGHTS as a boy, so he's a boy!" The funniest part is that one kid actually knew NiGHTS was genderless, but none of us listened to him.
I think the cutscenes were made using the game's engine as opposed to being prerendered like in the intro. Kind of a shame really. The animation in all the other cutscenes are so stiff.
Imagine of NiGHTS was made into a movie, it'd bring in the whimsical and fantastical world of Nightopia while also bringing in the darkness and also do some pretty dark moments with Reala, Wiseman, Jackal, and the nightmare realm.
Crash Star Gaming I still don`t get how Nights Is A boy Instead Of A Girl Besides How Can she Be a Boy, She Looks and Talks Like A Girl + What`s wrong with calling her a Girl.
Princess Twilight NiGHTS is neither male or female, NiGHTS has no gender the same goes for Reala. This is because NiGHTS is an avatar for someone who is dreaming, and the dreamer can relate to NiGHTS regardless of their own gender. Characters in game may refer to NiGHTS as a he simply because it is more polite than calling NiGHTS an it. However if you can relate to NiGHTS better as a female then more power to you, that's kind of what makes NiGHTS such an interesting character, the fact that NiGHTS is not restricted by something like gender.
Will had the better plot in general IMO. The only bit of Helen's route I found remotely interesting was the glass castle and her having to regain her trust in NiGHTS after she founds out he's a nightmare being.
My first experience with this game were the first cutscenes of the kid's nightmares. They scared me as a kid, and I never played this game again. Now, after years of searching, I _finally_ know what this game is called... all thanks to Sonic Adventure.
Am I the only one who just enjoys NiGHTS and Reala's interaction? I'm just so wooed at all the fights and the weird way Reala manhandles NiGHTS. I can't explain it well without sounding a bit off but their interactions just satisfies me extremely.
this is the most awkward way of saying "I like seeing these two characters interact, because I want them to be a couple" "weird way Reala manhandles NiGHTS..." "satisfies me extremely..." yeah, you couldn't have said this ANY worse.
+TehCrayz Funny thing is that in Japanese, they use a genderless pronoun, but since there is no genderless pronoun in English, they were forced to call it a "he" out of respect despite NiGHTS being genderless. There is still "it" but that is considered rude for obvious reasons. Supposedly they made "him" genderless to appeal to a larger audience, though ironically I feel like it mostly just confuses people.
I remember as a child, my friend was completely obsessed with this game and I didn’t understand why. Years later I’m just barely checking it out and the series is quiet charming! Deserves a reboot in my book ☺️☺️
When wizeman says that nightmares would still exist, I’m getting Kirby anime vibes. In the last episode, the villain, Nightmare, says a similar thing in the Japanese translation
Still baffles me that after seeing Reala so early on and how similar he looks to NiGHTS, Will was still shocked that NiGHTS was a Nightmaren. Like, how did their physical similarities not phase him or cross his mind that maybe they could be related?? Same could be said for Helen. I know they're children and they tend to be naïve af, but they generally aren't that dense to the point of never making connections in their heads. I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone talk about this yet.
To be fair, in a lot of stories, just because the protagonist and antagonist look similar doesn't necessarily mean they're related- sometimes the antagonists purposely copy the protagonist's appearance, or were actually on the protagonist's side before changing alliances. (If Shadow the Hedgehog had kept his beta design where he looked almost identical to Sonic, he and Sonic would have appeared to be related, despite Shadow being 50 years older and presumably without any direct ties to Sonic's heritage.) If one isn't familiar with the Night Dimension or the Nightmaren, like the two children or new NiGHTS players were, maybe they would initially assume Reala was just an evil version of NiGHTS, or that Reala was a member of NiGHTS' species gone rogue- who joined the Nightmaren despite not being one themself. Quite a few story scenarios have used the latter approach, especially when dealing with a protagonist and antagonist who are siblings.
There’s a sort of elegance to them that’s just so interesting when combined with the more playful and mischievous aspects of their design and personality. It makes the character more interesting than if they were just one or the other.
I love the part where NiGHTS calls Reala a coward while Reala says "Coward? Moi?" and both of them remarks at each other to see which one of them is the puppet loyal to Wizeman
The nightmare world REALLY is spooky. Like even for the simplistic graphics, it gives me spooks. I also can never get over how the BIG reveal was that NiGHTS was a Nightmarean.
No matter how many times this game says night's is a boy i will always see nights as a girl, granted nights is not supposed to have a gender. The voice makes me think of nights as a girl even more.
butternutcrunch Yeah it makes more sense especially for this game. And thanks i took it myself when i had my old hacked wii, the camera hack made fore some great pictures.
As someone who is currently choosing what type of career choice I want to go into, I am SO tempted to go into game making and designing JUST so I can help make a new NiGHTS game that can revive the series lmao.
@@Whocares158 That game has a lower chance of getting a game over NiGHTS now. It’s done so poorly to the point Yuki Naja left Square Enix and is gone into mobile gaming. Plus, Balan wonder world, even though I like the design never filled in the void of NiGHTS, the gameplay is just completely different.
MAN I loved this game as kid. I remembered when Helen fell and will saved her, I had goosebumps when that part came. I think I played this game twice as a kid, loved it to death.
As a kid I always wanted a NiGHTS game! I really like 'zer' design, but seemed to only get Sonic, Monkeyball, and Billy Hatcher. So here I am watching this more than a decade later. :B Gotta say, Helen's story seems much more lively and complete. Almost as though the writers wrote it first, then ran out of all the cool ideas for Will's and just phoned it in (though NiGHTS' constant pouting is hilarious)... Which is a shame because in contrast, Will's voice acting is pretty good while Helen's is the worst... The overall story, logic, and characters to NiGHTS is definitely weird, but I rather like it more than I thought I would! :D It's like if the writers of SA2B were told to write a Peter Pan - Alice in Wonderland mixture.
I'd say Will has the better motivation out of the 2. Will has trouble talking to others besides his dad and lacks confidence. Helen? She wants to spend time with her friends instead of practicing violin with her mother. Sorry, I'd rather follow the kid with actual issues.
@@MelonTartVA Woah dude, you can't just call Helen's problems nonissues... I relate more to Will's problems myself, but that doesn't make Helen's any less important, especially for a growing kid. Violin is a rigorous trade to master much like piano, have you heard of all the mental problems people can develop when they're deprived of their social life and other interests as children? In a way, Will and Helen have the same problem in that they both want to socialize. Will has internal obstacles, social anxiety, while Helen has external obstacles, forced obligations.
@@ShoulderMonster I suppose. But Helen seems to have no problem socializing since we see her out with her friends in her first cutscene. And I wasn't implying it was non-issue. I meant that Will's problems just seems to effect him more. Especially since he's on a sports team.
@@MelonTartVA Well and Helen was about to give a concert with her mom in front of a big crowd. She is under a lot of pressure too, as she need to perform well to not embarres herself and her mom, who will be affected by mistakes from Helen on stage. I see that she is socializing, but she still has this looming feeling that she should practice more and to not disappoint her mom, as seen in her dream when she sees her moms reflection turning angry They are both under a lot of pressure, with different problems and fears
Crash Star Gaming Wow I didn’t notice you replied back! Thanks to these cutscenes I know NiGHTS personality and I’ve mastered the bow that NiGHTS does. Just wish I had the melody of NiGHTS playing their flute.
I really enjoy Wizeman's voice acting. The fact he's so sinister, full of dark emotions, and powerful is really jarring with how he's so soft spoken, even when angered to snapping at someone, that I can't tell what he says half the time in the fight with him.
You know what they should do? They should seriously remake this game, but with WAY better quality and for it to be on PS4 or something lol Because that would be awesome lol
I like to imagine how Wizeman made Reala and Nights is he used the Joker recipe from Jamezietocool's "Joker gets replaced" video, but he used too much P2 Joker and added a dash of Ideya's, a pinch of dream essence, a sprinkle of Spicy P5 memes, and some cool-ass clothes.
Are people really gonna fight over which gender Nights is when...the creator themselves says that Nights is genderless? Get over yourselves and quit trying to force Nights to be female just because they're feminine.
Not really. Them being genderless means they are neither male or female, and have primarily just been called NiGHTS or a they/him. So there isn't any evidence that they're a female. lmao. Next.
@@earthing3696 you need to shut the fuck up and stop forcing your shitty unfounded opinion on people who dont wanna hear it. They're genderless thats fucking that. They dont have a pussy stop whining about it.
So funny enough. Nights was the reason I learned the flute when i was younger and now im finished college because of a music scholarship I got for the flute. 😅 nights quite literally made me who I am.
A lot of people are debating about NiGHTS's gender. The creator said that it is genderless, but some people have other beliefs. This is almost the same thing happening with Kirby. Kirby's creator Masahiro Sakurai (the creator of Super Smash Bros, too) confirmed that Kirby is a boy and so does the American version of the game. Just because Kirby is pink doesn't mean that he is a girl or gay, just like Patrick from Sponge Bob Squarepants or Majin Buu from Dragon Ball Z. Kirby isn't gay because in one of his games, he blushed when he was kissed by a female fairy after he saved her planet... Although, the Japanese version does not state Kirby's gender and refers to him as "it". Some characters don't have genders at all. You may or may not have heard of the anime Hetalia, but almost all of its characters have no confirmed gender, but they lean toward one or the other. It's so much harder to determine gender nowadays.
I always thought that NiGHTS and Reala were way taller than they actually are, like at least 6 feet (presumably because of the lanky proportions and how they float above other characters). It’s bizarre coming back to this game and seeing they’re about the same height as the kids themselves. I also saw that according to sonic riders or something that they’re only 4’11”/150cm. …I’m still going to draw them as being taller, though. It just feels right to me.
Okay so I'm rather unfamiliar with the specifics of this franchise, but someone I knew was super into it. I'm watching these cutscenes for the first time and when I got to this part 5:30 my reaction was: "B-but we just met!" o.o
Will: Don't you have a father, NiGHTS? NiGHTS: *Vietnam flashbacks* Also when Will and Helen are bad at keeping their UK Accents. This is why the game should've been dubbed by the Nintendo of Europe.
