Wunderbar review! Very good on the details, except the battery location. Because of your excellent points, I am purchasing the “Special” edition and pick it up in 3 weeks. Thanks for your review! 👏🏻
I like riding between placerville to auburn on highway 49 and route 128 from winters to napa. Some excellent canyon riding. I'd like to see more Thunderbike Project X parts on the Nightster.
The tank is under the seat and could have been about 15l or 4gal. Also the left side of the engine looks good, but the right side is a totally different color and looks like molded plastic. The right side is not actually plastic but it looks strange compared to the left side of the bike...
I just don't like how the motor doesn't have very much torque on the bottom end; you need to be in the upper rpm range for the bike to start pulling. I think that most people that will ride this bike will be riding in town and not carving canyons, and the characteristics of this motor would not be exciting. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like feeling the raw punch when I leave the stoplight or just doing some horsing around. You cant call the Nightster a beginner bike, mainly because of the price. There are way better "Beginner bikes" out there for way less money, and this is coming from a guy that loves Harleys. That is just my opinion...
I find it interesting that the engine performance is described as “ not having the punch of the other Harley Engines”. I want to like this bike but surely with 975cc Modern water cooled V twin this Harley should have a lot more punch. Have they failed to develop the engine, is it crippled by emissions regulations, what, why. Or is Harley again giving its customers the barest minimum possible for the highest price possible. I’ll look at Ducati for a v twin rather than Harley’s usual cynical effort. It does look nice however but having to pay for a rear seat is a bit rich.
Yeah, you can get a lot more for the same money from the Japanese or even a F750 GS beemer. Hell, the new Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is in that price category and is a great bike, with tons of "cool factor"
