4 years retired and I still appreciate not going to work. Mondays are so much nicer. My hobbies are arts and crafts and I never get bored. Nice to see people enjoying a hobby.
Over the years I have continued to "add" hobbies. Motorcycling, camping, woodworking, photography, knife making, target shooting and archery. There's always something different to pursue. Keep learning and enjoying new things every year. One of the most important ( for me ) priorities in my life, since I bought my first house at age 21, was to always have a heated/cooled garage/shop. It makes many hobbies much more enjoyable.
As a retiree, Sundays are the days I sit back and say, "Honey, what day is today?" Without a routine I tend to remember perfectly what the date is but flounder trying to remember the day of the week! Just wait, Buzz... Getting ready to move to the Southern desert, near the border. Clear air and dark skies are perfect for stargazing.
What a twinkle you got in your eyes when you talk about not having to get up on Monday 😂😂😂. You had me laughing away. Because we thought that too when we first retired.
Congratulations on your retirement! You made it! I remember you saying on a past video that you didn't have long. Great job! You're going to love it! Buzz
I took my kids to planetariums when they were younger, and we did stargazing at state campgrounds over the years, and we went out to the yard to watch meteor showers, and they learned about the constellations. It gave them exposure to them, and they learned new things.
I always did things like that with my girls since my parents never did anything like that. Even showed them how to work on cars! One liked it somewhat the other said no thanks. Lol
Happy retirement. I've pondered on this, hobby, when i do retire. 58 and counting down. Stargazing sounds exciting especially here in the desert of NM. Not working Mondays 😂. I just scored Monday's off at work. Doing 4-10s now so three day weekends going forward. Hopefully it sticks. Enjoy the honby.
"Cloudy Everyday in Cleveland"... sounds like a 1980's sitcom. Love astronomy. Never get enough time to engage in it. I plan to retire in less than 2 years!
Do the same thing myself. I just have one of the smaller scopes and have had it for decades. I find it amazing also when you get a view of the moon or another planet from my back yard. Great video. thanks. Steve
I currently enjoy Amateur radio on a daily basis. Just like seeing Saturn and its rings with astronomy, I am still amazed to make a radio contact with another radio operator on the other side of the world. You can have a regular conversation and share ideas and viewpoints.
I’m 61 and I have 1 year to go until I retire but I have a metal detector my dad left me and I need to get more hobby’s .I lived in Vegas for a lot of years and used to got out to the sand dunes in Utah Nevada and would look at the stars and could see all the planes and satellites flying across the sky pretty cool to have a telescope like you do.thanks for the video I might get one
I just retired last week after 34 years in law enforcement. I had hobbies while I worked and continue to pursue those...I may even go back to school ? Tomorrow is my first real retired Monday....
TIME! Yes. 3 months away for me. I think it will be glorious to "slow down". It always feels like I'm in a rush and time is such a premium. Bet my stress level cuts in half.
Current hobbies include working out, shooting, martial arts. I also play tge drums, and love to hike. Im also thinking of getting a canoe to explore the lakes and rivers of Idaho. 😊
Sounds like you have all the good hobbies under your belt. I need to go to the gun range more. Have one a mile away. Need to practice with my 9mm. Buzz
Stargazing sounds like a cool hobby. I live in a small city. I wonder if light pollution would be a problem. When I visit the mountains or desert I am always amazed at how much more is visible with the naked eye
What are you thinking? Insulation and drywall? Or, something else? I have to do my bathroom first. My wintertime project. Actually, I was hoping a tree would fall on the garage so it could be rebuilt a few feet taller. Bob
@@BuzzRetirementGarage hah I like the tree falling on the garage plan. We tore down our single car garage in 2003 and built a 24 x 24' garage from a Menards kit. We built it tall so the inside is almost 10' and then insulated it with insulation from a company project that was tearing down a building and let me take all the insulation for free. Sheet rocked the whole thing and added a gas furnace. Now I have my own big screen tv so I don't have to watch the bachelor in the regular house. 😀😀😀. Good luck!
@@notanomad9320 That sounds good! Let's see how long it will take me to get the bathroom done. The garage is 1963 and I wouldn't mind new concrete and garage. But, it ain't cheap. We'll see.
The one question that is so hard to answer and will vary from person to person, is when do you have enough money? I’m 65 and will be eligible for full Social Security benefits in May 2025. My wife retired about a decade ago on disability income from Social Security. I can start collecting benefits in January 2025 and still be working because in the year of your eligibility for full retirement you can make about $59,000 without penalty. So I would not hit $59,000 by 5/20/2025 when the earnings penalty disappears forever. So I am so tempted to work full time and bank benefits for perhaps two years or 2.5 years to build up a fund to pay Medicare premiums. But it’s so hard to decide!
Well, I'd probably still be working if the circumstances were different. I would have loved to stack some more money. But, even retiring early we'll pull 45k just from social security and that dramatically changes my tax bracket. I won't be paying $15k in taxes like I was before. Will I ever work again? Maybe. I can make 22k a year so maybe I work part time in the winter months. I have 9 months to figure it out. Buzz
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Yes, and when you reach your full retirement age it will be nice not to have any penalty for earnings if you ever wanted to work again.
I see that question asked on astronomy forums. I have wondered the same thing. The answer is no, you cannot see any items left on the moon. Too bad, right? Buzz
"In this connection it is authoritatively recorded regarding the Maori of New Zealand that they can see the satellites of Jupiter which are only visible to the white man’s eye with the aid of telescopes. These people prove that they can see the satellites by telling the man at the telescope when the eclipse of one of the stars occurs." Weston Price, Nutrition and physical degeneration, p.152.
Thank you for your comment. I purchased the jacket at Costco. Once a year they get them in but this year they had black and a brown color. I like the green one the best. Bob
Size envy is a problem in astronomy. You tell a guy you have an 8 inch DOB and he says that's nice but I like my 16 inch DOB. Can be an expensive hobby but it's your own money ( just remember to ask the wife).
Great question. For me, say I won $10 million in my 40's. I would have "retired". I think I can more with my life by helping with my community, doing volunteer work for local dog kennels, being an all-around secret Santa. Bob
