Thank you! Planet Hell is another great song from Nightwish! It's from the album Once (2004). I love, love the drums and the choir on this one! The energy is carzy! And Marko and Tarja's voices fit so well together. I do not really know why, but I really like the lyrics on this one, especially the chorus: "Save yourself, a penny for the ferryman. Save yourself and let them suffer. In hope, in love, this world ain't ready for the ark. Save yourself, a penny for the ferryman. Save yourself and let them suffer." I love the line "In hope, in love, mankind works in mysterious ways" :) A few days ago Tarja posted on Instagram with Marko a picture of them two. They asked what songs we would like to see them perform live during their South-American tour this spring. I saw a lot of people comment Planet Hell (me included)... sooo, we might see that performed live again with Marko and Tarja🙃 How exciting!

From the 5th album, Once, the album this tour was for. Song #2 of 18 at this show. (Dark Chest of Wonders was the opener). This song is still played, last tour with Floor singing it solo. Still awesome, but as you see, it was written as a Marko heavy song. The ferryman is referencing Greek mythology. Charon is the ferryman over the river Styx, and demands payment to bring you across. "Save yourself a penny for the ferryman". A good heavy song, yeah Jukka kills it. 🤘🤘. Kai is awesome playing it too. Cheers from cold and snowy Buffalo.

Long time Bills fan and in the Scottish Bills Mafia here, my late aunt is buried in Buffalo, she emigrated to New York from Scotland at the end of WW2 with her American sweetheart, after he passed away she moved to Buffalo and lived there for about 10 years, only been to Buffalo once and that was in 2001. Used to play American Football in the 1980s and 1990s and started a team in Caithness with some help from the US Navy that had a base there. Ah memories!

I only found your channel a few days ago. Ran through about 10 of your Nightwish reactions late Sat night. Thanks for doing these, I really enjoy your comments. Let me say right now that I am old (60+ years) and a lifelong fan of rock music, especially LIVE rock music. Nightwish w/Floor Jansen changed my life in 2019. Plain and simple. This cut with Tarja is for the OG fans of Nightwish. My American ears are not especially fond of her sound. I find it way too operatic, way too often. However, I can certainly understand how others absolutely love Tarja. I believe Floor is the GOAT. Just my opinion. As the music/radio industry professional you are, I hope you find it as unbelievable as I do that the magic of Tuomas, Floor, et al. is basically unknown in the USA.

I agree hole heartedly with you on this. I was lucky enough to discover Nightwish watching Sam Dunn’s excellent documentary Metal Evolution. He highlighted the song Nemo and interviewed Tarja and Tuomas extensively in the series.Although I can respect and appreciate Tarja and her outstanding vocals I ,like you, couldn’t fully love her vocals with Nightwish. I did find that I liked Anette more than I liked Tarja on the Dark Passion Play and Imaginearum albums. But watching Anette perform live with the band it was clear to me that while Anette was brilliant in the studio, performing with Nightwish live she clearly struggled with the songs especially those that Tarja originally recorded. Floor on the other hand was outstanding with all of Nightwish’s material. I was also able to see that the real key to the Nightwish sound was Marco. He elevated the entire band with not only his vocals but also his bass playing. I was lucky enough to see Nightwish on the Decades tour here in Chicago in 2018 at the very tiny Aragon Ballroom. The show wasn’t even close to a full house but the band was outstanding. But with Marco no longer in the band I feel Nightwish is missing something too great for the band, especially Floor, to overcome. For that reason alone I chose not to see the band when they came back to Chicago in 2022. I saw the real thing and I couldn’t settle for less.

@@ronaldwilson9525 I understand your perspective, but I'm not ready to give up on anything Tuomas is involved with. I believe the magic Marko brought to Nightwish was not the bass playing. Yes, he clearly made a difference with the long stick. But I believe it was Marko's vocals that had the larger impact. Especially in conjunction with Floor. She is simply all-world 🙂. I suspect that finding an acceptable bass player was likely as much about finding someone that can get along with the others in the band and crew. Marko is an exceptional musician, and a huge loss for Nightwish. Only another strong male vocalist can hope to---fully---replace his spot on the roster. I hope the upcoming album will show that Tuomas has mastered himself around this loss. I'm still onboard. Tuomas and Floor are both first-ballot HOF artists. And the gift of song-making that Tuomas brings is of historical significance. Just my take on things.

@@tonyg8471 I guess I didn’t make myself clear in my post. The reason I hold Marco so high in regards isn’t solely for his bass playing (although as a bass player myself, not very good but I try, Marko is in my opinion great) but to me it’s his playing while singing at that level. I’ve heard the new lineup. The bass playing of their new bassist Jukka is great too and he can more than keep up with the rest of the band. But without Marko Nightwish isn’t anywhere near the same. I didn’t think that Human II Nature was more than a so so piece when it came out. I felt something was missing and when Marco announced he was leaving the band I guessed that his heart and soul wasn’t in that album and that more than explained why I didn’t love it as I did the previous albums. Again if you or anyone else continues to love this version of the band the same or more without Marco, great. But I want the old Nightwish back with Floor AND Marco. I don’t think it’s going to happen and yes that’s my problem and my opinion.

I understand your opinion. I am just curious: Have you heard anything from Tarja's solo career? Heard her sing anything recently? Her voice has changed quite a lot. She has developed a stronger and darker chest voice that she didn't really use in Nightwish. Tarjastill has and she still uses that operatic voice, too. But I do understand that Tarja is not everyone's cup of tea. :)

Ohh, I never realised you'd done this song until it popped up in my recommendations! It really is a banger, and honestly reminds me how much I miss Jukka's thick, fat drum sound -- there's just something about it. The vocalists are absolute dynamo together, and Jukka in the engine room really keeps the song going (and then some). It drives the madness home well and brings you along for the ride without a mercy, which is exactly what this song needs with its heightened lyrical style.

I have listened to this song with Tarja and with Floor! Both are what my buddies back in El Paso, Texas would call..Pure Bada$$ Metal! If there was a Heavy Metal concert, we went to it...dressed in our suits and ties...short hair...and head banging anyway! What can you say about the Pirate on the drums...the guy will always be one of the best I have ever seen! Thanks again....I love it when you react to Nightwish!

Thanks again for the great wake-up and the smile that didn't leave it unclear whether you liked the show or not. You also said the best so far what Nightwish is about. It's not about the singer - it's about the music and how the players are able to change so that the singer becomes a perfect part of the performance. I was at the concert and I remember the performance very well. There was a positive rage about it. What hit me even harder was Slaying the Dreamer. An absolutely incomprehensible performance then and absolutely incomprehensible even now. I'm afraid that this day will also be a day of remembrance for Finnish heavy metal - approx. 25 years ago, completely unimaginable things were done in Finnish music, no matter what the genre.

this is my favourite overall by all 4 Nightwish singers .. Marko , of course but all 3 women lead singers performed this song beautifully live .. Currently the main vocals are Floor who does Marko's bits .. Fantastic !

Great reaction as always. Thank you for shining a light on Jukka ! He's a beast and I absolutely love him z same goes for Emppu - most reactors love to skip them a lot of times which was always a mystery to me. As a suggestion for one of your next reactions I'll give you Beauty OF the beast - must be the studio version z they never did a proper live version for it. It's a hidden gem and one of my absolute favorite songs of theirs. It's long though - 10+ minutes.

I love, love, love this performance. Interestingly, this exists in four different singer versions - Tarja and Marko, Anette and Marko, Floor and Marko, and Floor alone - and all four are superb! Still, this might be my favorite.

Surprised you hadn't heard this one before. Awesome! I believe you're still to do anything from Wishes to Eternity Live. I'd recommend "Swanheart", "Deep Silent Complete", "Walking in the Air" (cover of the main theme from The Snowman), and also their instrumental cover of "Crimson Tide and Deep Blue Sea" (Tarja costume change 😂). Shout out to you for appreciating Tuomas's solo in this track. One of my personal favorites in terms of his solos is Crownless. Not only it's a great keyboard solo, but also a predecessor to the sweet sweet dialogue between keys and guitar in Shudder Before the Beautiful. Give Crownless a listen, you'll like it a lot!

In order to understand, how differently Tarja sings when she is performing a metal song to when she`s singing classical, you really have to hear her sing stuff like Pie Jesu, Mein Herr Marquis or Ave Maria by Paolo Tosti. She said in an interview, that she had to adjust her classical singing by a lot to make it work with a metal band. And one can clearly hear that difference. She is so versatile and amazing vocalist, the warm, powerful tone and voice is simply amazing at anything she sings. Her Christmas album is wonderful. She can do anything.

Love your reactions. Most songs I like Floor's performance the best but for this song, Tarja is the best. It helps that Tuomas wrote this specifically for Tarja but her deep, dark classical voice is so perfect for the lyrics and the feel of the music. She is totally channeling an evil witch from Planet Hell.
