Yours Is An Empty Hope live at Wembley should be your next destination since you love the heavy metal side of Nightwish. Other excellent possibilities include Weak Fantasy, Shudder Before The Beautiful or 7 days to the Wolves. You figured what you like about Nightwish, just enjoy the ride now.
Lots have recommended Yours is an Empty Hope from Wembly - which is definitely awesome. Probably my favorite heavy one, though, is Weak Fantasy live from Tampere. Angry Floor just absolutely wrecks some shit. Another great one is Seven Days to the Wolves, also from Wembley. The last two minutes are absolutely mind blowing, and Floor literally turns into a werewolf
There is a live version of Nightwish doing cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes that Marco sings. It is great! Also, Islander and While Your Lips are Still Red feature Marco.
Ghost river, slaying the dreamer, Weak fantasy, yours is an empty hope, devil and the deep dark ocean.. All heavier offerings from NW, all with Marko singing,
Romanticide is my favourite as well...Mate pretty much everything at this concert is great...as you said for your style, GLS was the wrong start point, but you will appreciate It later. I reckon you should try Song of Myself, Ghost River and Ever Dream next! These rock hard, and feature Marko (the most epic bassist/vocalist) 😎🤘
Jukka's face and movements behind Floor at the start!!! Emppu's "power-stance"!!! Want Marko singing? - Try "High Hopes" from End of An Era - live (yes, Pink Floyd Tribute)!!! 4:57 - 5:07 Floor-raid siren G3 - D6! Favourites!? But wait! There's more!.... "Dark Chest Of Wonders", "I Wish I Had An Angel", "I Want My Tears Back", ... anything previously recommended!
Check "slaying the dreamer" live in Buenos aires. I think you are gonna love it. Another great choice can be "yours is an empty hope" live at Wembley! Greetings from Argentina!! Peace 🤘
Yes, Yours is an Empty Hope live at Wembley should definitely be your next song and yes Floor is the one growling. It's funny how many reactors I've seen that don't know it's her😂😂Awesome song😎
Devil and the deep dark ocean at buenos aires or yours is an empty hope at wembley. you can also do kinslayer or slayin the dreamer both at buenos aires and 7 days of the wolf at wembley
@@Roguenjosh This is the way to go for your tastes. Almost wish they hadn't spoiled it for you, the reactions when people realize it's her growling are usually fantastic.
@@Roguenjosh Her best growls are in Revamp, her own band before Nightwish. Unfortunately, the sound quality is not very good. But you can still watch it :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SNPesLFTnUg.html
Great reaction! Glad you found your flavour of Nightwish. If you want something more contemporary I would recommend "Tribal" (there is an official lyrics video) from their latest album "Human :||: Nature" (released in april 2020)
'Song of Myself' from the same concert should be added to the list. They kinda became a trio: Romanticide, Story Time and Song of Myself. Impossible to pick a favorite if you ask me.
So staying in the heavier realm: Weak Fantasy, Yours Is An Empty Hope, and 7 Days to the Wolves. Stay away from the big songs, like Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show On Earth - they require more research and preparation (especially Greatest Show, how many times will you get to react to a song that is 24 minutes long?). Live versions from Wembley are fantastic. On that note - Marko has his own solo project and released a double album (in English and Finnish) not that long ago, you should give it a listen!
I hope you are doing greatest show on earth some day :) propably not quiete your type of favorite nightwish song but the story behind that song is sooo cool
If you liked the bassist Marko, check out his solo album Marko Hietala - Pyre Of The Black Heart. There's Finnish and English versions. Also Marko has his own band Tarot he formed w/ his brother in 1982
This song is a huge energy blast. Today's Nighwish can offer something to everybody: from folk to metal. GLS was a great starter for me, because I like more epic, melodic and emotional songs than the hardest of metal. Great reaction!
This showed up in my recommended. You look so pumped by this song haha, love it. I looked at the previous songs you reacted to and if GLS wasn't your jam, then I reckon someone made a mistake by recommending Nemo, Amaranth and Elan! No bother though, you got there in the end :) It's hard to match l the constant power behind this song, but here's a few I reckon you should check out - all have great live recordings: - Yours is an Empty Hope - Ghost River - Weak Fantasy - Song of Myself - Dark Chest of Wonders
I think there are definitely at least two kinds of RU-vid Nightwish newbie. One group falls head over heels after Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Another group is either seriously underwhelmed or actively turned off by GLS, but can be well and truly revived by Romanticide or one of the other heavier numbers. People comparing them to Evanescence - wrong but very understandable. There really aren't any mainstream bands you can easily compare Nightwish to, Evanescence may be light-years from Nightwish but it's still the closest. This is the first of your Nightwish videos I've seen so I don't know what you've seen already, but a few suggestions: Ghost River (Wacken 2013), Yours is an Empty Hope (Wembley), 7 Days to the Wolves (Wembley I think), Weak Fantasy (Tampere is my preferred version), Ever Dream (Wacken 2013). I really like I Want My Tears Back. The Wacken 2013 version is great, but I actually prefer the Buenos Aires version, I think the instruments are given more space in the mix. Or something. I don't know audio production language, but you can definitely hear the separate instruments better at Buenos Aires, which is important for REASONS. Of course you love Marco the bassist, how could you not? The Islander at Tampere is good for seeing Marco by himself. Also highly recommend Nightwish's cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes from the End of an Era show. Welcome to the rabbit hole!
Time for more Nightwish ... 7 Days to the Wolves, Live Wimbledon, Ever Dream, Poet& the Pendulum, Greatest Show on Earth, with Richard Dawkins! Let’s GO! 😉
Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, Shudder Before the Beautiful, Weak Fantasy, Yours is an Empty Hope, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, Slaying the Dreamer, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean... all rockers 😉
The best part of that last note from Floor is that Marko hangs with her for the whole note. His voice is amazing. If you want more uptempo Nightwish, check out Last Ride of the Day or Ghost River. Song of Myself and Yours Is An Empty Hope should also be on your list, because Floor and Marko are incredible.
Thank you for the reaction :-) Regarding your comments about the guitar tone, bass, keyboards etc. Being a musician you may be interested in the stage setup for Nightwish (2015) including discussion and close look at the instruments ( bass guitars / lead guitars / keyboard including tilting / pedal boards / drums etc) along with brief lighting and sound mix discussion see: Nightwish Rig video by GearGods (2015) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6dhSkfbHXJc.html (no song spoilers from that timestamp) *NOTE:* The drum kit shown in the GearGods rigged video is Kai Hahto's Pearl kit. The original drummer Jukka Nevalainen (seen in Wacken 2013) plays a TAMA kit. Jukka, due to insomnia, hasn't performed with Nightwish since ~late 2014 apart from a one off appearance at their unofficial 20th anniversary concert in 2016 - he now works behind the scenes with Nightwish. Kai and Jukku are both superb drummers, comparing Jukka with Kai is like trying to compare Jon Bonham with Ian Paice - superb drummers, different strengths and style! :-) Enjoy!
Nightwish are an acquired taste! I bought Once not long after it came out after someone recommended it, and I kept coming back to it for at least 6 months trying to decide what I thought of it. Eventually I decide that it must be awesome, otherwise I wouldn't have kept coming back to listen to it so frequently, and I've been into everything I have heard from them since then. I agree with the others who have recommended Marko's version of High Hopes - it's amazing.
Haha you just earned a sub from me for 2 consecutive quotes “ she legit sounds like an air raid siren” “and the bassist looks like he’s in the intro to Skyrim “. Lmao nice
Awesome you have found the style of song that suits you. They have some plenty of songs you would also like I think like, "Yours is an empty hope", "7 Days to the wolves", "Weak fantasy" or "Wish I had an Angel" just for a start.
This concert Wacken 2013 is the Imaginaerum Album world tour, Your going to find songs with a more fantasy/mystical vibe. But, if your only into the more classic thrash heavy metal sound there are some others at Wacken 2013 you will want to watch.. At least check out for example "Song of Myself" and "Ghost River" from Wacken 2013.. The Wembley Arena concert, different album, more power metal sound in most of those songs.. Toumas "the Keyboard player" writes 85% of all the Nightwish songs, he composes the music, sends out initial tracks to the others,.. They collaborate, get together, finish off the songs with their own final touches.. He works with groups like the London Philharmonic to produce the symphonic and choir vocals used for their live performances.. The point is he writes about whatever he's feeling or is inspired by at the time, and he also writes to suite the voice of the lead singer.. This music was written before Floor became lead singer.. So, the music he writes after this is where he's able to go just about anywhere because he's able to utilize the versatility of Floor's vocals.
Love your reactions to Nightwish and hope to see more soon. Check out "Yours Is An Empty Hope" Live at WEMBLEY, heavier Nightwish song if that's your thing.
If you want more of the bassist Marco singing, check out The Islander (Live at Tempere) and While your lips are still red (Wembley Arena) for a softer side with him in the focus, or Ghost River (Wacken) and Master Passion Greed (studio version) for a rougher version.
Ghost River - Wacken 2013, Weak Fantasy - Tampere 2015, Song of Myself - Wacken 2013, Yours is An Empty Hope - Wembley 2015, Slaying the Dreamer, Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean and 10th Man Down from Buenos Aires 2018 would be the easy picks for you.
Great reaction. If you like the heavier stuff from them and you want to hear more of the fantastic harmonies between Floor and Marko check out Weak Fantasy live from Tampere 2015. You’ll love it ❤️ So proud of Floor being a Dutchie myself 🇳🇱 Enjoy your Nightwish journey, I subscribed and I’m looking forward making it with you 😉
Want some more cool Nightwish songs? Try: 5. Song of Myself (live Wacken 2013); 4. Ghost River (live Wacken 2013); 3. Shudder Before the Beautiful (live Wembley 2015); 2. The Poet and The Pendulum (live Wembley 2015); 1. Greatest Show on Earth (live Tampere 2015).
While my personal feeling is, that the Wacken 2013 performance is sort of the "Gold Standard" for Nightwish live performances...(I just think the production/engineering/mixing is the absolute best, of their live shows)... there are other great songs that the band didn't perform at Wacken. Ghost Love Score is a crescendo, to build up to it. Same for Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show On Earth. Those are the epic scores, but the bangers like Showtime Ave Romanticide. You definitely need to check them out, but, rock out to some other great songs, along the way... * "Dark Chest of Wonders" - Opener for Wacken 2013 * "Ghost River" - Wacken 2013 * "Song of Myself" - Wacken 2013 * "7 Days to the Wolves" - (I THINK it's from Wembley... not 100% certain, though) * "Yours Is An Empty Hope" - Wembley You'll be glad you did.
Hi matey, I'm watching you over in Brisbane. Great to see an Aussie doing reactions. I've been lurking for quite a while lol. I agree that Yours is an Empty Hope would be a good one next, also Ghost River is one I really like - showcases Marko a bit more too.
For you I'd recommend pretty much the whole Century Child album. It's from era before Tuomas went toward complicated scores and generally just fast symphonic metal in your face. End of All Hope, the first real track on the album, is especially worth checking. But Ever Dream, Slaying the Dreamer etc are also very good tracks. I skated and coded one full Summer with this album kicking me to stay up speed.
If you like their shorter harder songs, try "Dark Chest of Wonders". You can find videos of all three Nightwish singers performing it, each in their own style.
Floor the human air raid siren! Going to repeat what others are saying, try Yours Is An Empty Hope (live Wembley), Weak Fantasy (live Tampere), and why not Song Of Myself (live Wacken). Another catchy one is Last Ride Of The Day (live Wacken), and I Want My Tears Back (live Buenos Aires).
The Poet and the Pendulum is incredible. With Floor, not Anette. Also gotta see Phantom of the Opera with Tarja (it's a lot like Romanticide IMO) and a really amazing oldie but easily their best is Wanderlust live performance from the Wishmaster tour concert video. Tarja basically gives a masterclass during that performance. If you love this bassist though, watch him do The Islander, it really show cases his voice and his talent.
Since you seem to already be a fan of Marko (which is an awesome thing) I would suggest While Your Lips Are Still Red at Wembley as others have, and add in The Islander from Tampere... Can't go wrong either way.
People start out noticing Floor ... and then they discover Marco, the other Nightwish vocalist. (BTW you'll love "Yours is an empty hope" - they're not wrong )
You’ll like Ghost River, Song of Myself, and Wish I had an Angel from this same Wacken 2013 show. I think you’d like Yours is an empty hope(Floor does the growling) , and 7 Days to the Wolves live from Wembley as well.
Hey josh, absolutely agree that ghost love score is not the correct way to start Nightwish xD. Try "Weak fantasy" (tampere) the song is at least on paar with "Yours is an empty hope" and "Romanticide"
Nice reaction Mate, thank you. Stay with live concerts please. Wacken, Wembley, Tampere, Buenos Aires are ready and waiting for you. Be prepared to have a new favorite many more times. Try "Ghost River", " Yours Is An Empty Hope', " Song Of Myself "or " Ever Dream" for your next favorite.
Yeah one of the bests this one! How about that banshee wail 🤘🏼🤘🏼 Next 7 Days to the Wolves live at Wembley Arena, that’ll leave you breathless but yet empowered!
You should check out the opening song from the 2015 wembley arena concert, Shudder before the beautiful is full in your face! I know you will rock out and love it!!
Weak Fantasy and Yours is an Empty Hope are fantastic heavier songs from the Floor era, but you should also check out Planet Hell from the End of an Era DVD.
I agree with you so much!! I wish the "Nightwish Army" would stop suggesting it as a first listen. My two favorites are _Song of Myself_ and _7 Days to the Wolves._ Song of Myself - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lQu5QjidHWg.html 7 Days to the Wolves - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XvsfwAPbWXc.html
welcome in Symphonic metal world ! For me, Nightwish is the best but here is another great european band: Epica. I suggest to begin with "consign to Oblivion - live a Zenith Paris". A great moment !
Ghost River, yours is an empty hope, weak fantasy, shudder before the beautiful, Dark chest of wonders, slaying the dreamer & devil in the deep dark ocean are all ones I think you'd like. Stick to Floor, Wembly, Waken, Tempre and Buenos Aries live stuff and your golden.
Well, I'm absolutely sure you will like the following songs: - 'Song Of Myself' Wacken 2013 - 'Weak Fantasy' Tampere (a bit of religious fanatics bashing) - 'Yours Is An Empty Hope' (a bit more religious fanatics bashing) doesn't matter much which live performance, all great - 'Slaying The Dreamer' Buenos Aires Official Live - 'Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean' Buenos Aires Official Live - '7 Days To The Wolves' Wembley Arena - 'Ghost River' Wacken 2013 (cause I love it, just do the complete live show man) - 'I Want My Tears Back' Buenos Aires 2019 (For the dance performance and the crazy crowd. A vocalist with a cold, high on meds and about the end of the concerts, dances like there's no tomorrow and still hits every note perfectly, nothing else to say). If you're in for the long ones (remember, their songs have an average length of 7 minutes), I'd say go for 'The Poet And The Pendulum' (HQ with lyrics, Wembley 2016). It has a heavy and meaningful backstory, the lyrics are very important but most people love it without any back knowledge too. And then there's 'Greatest Show On Earth', biology, science and astrophysics nerds just love it and it's darn awesome. And their longest song. It is based on the book with the same title by Richard Dawkins, like pretty much the whole album. There you can decide between the older Live in Tampere (fireworks, man. Fireworks.) and the newer official Live in Wembley (with Richard Dawkins doing the narration live on stage). They are slightly different in instrumentalisation, especially in the beginning. Just don't do the mistake to end watching before the video is over. Yepp, that's all.
Yeah, the first time recommendations should always take account to what kind of music the reactor mostly listens to. Especially with Nightwish, because as you have now seen, there's practically something for everyone. Just have to find the right way to start.
Hi mate hope u ok im steve 48 uk .huge nightwish fan .marko male vocaist floor jansen vocals .empu elec guitar marko bass/guitar .troy instruents jutka on drums tho he left group now due to insomnia . And the main man tuomas on keyboards he writes all songs .hes metal mozart.2 u should react to straight away .1 nightwish devil and the deep dark ocean live buenos aires 2018. 2 yours is an empty hope live wembley.keep up good reactions mate
Josh, I can't believe you haven't heard _Song of Myself_ yet! Arguably the best breakdown in all of the Nightwish discography, and it lasts practically the entire 2nd half of the song! Plus, Marko sings, too. 🤘😁 Song of Myself - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lQu5QjidHWg.html
Heya Josh if you really wanna hear how heavy Nightwish can go check out the song Master Passion Greed, they never done it live so it only exist studio version of it and Marko sings it.
Marko's got history before Nightwish in a band he started with his brother. Suggest you check out Tarot, and also... I've kept wondering what it is about your chosen name that's been tugging at my sleeve, but then... rogan josh.
Talking about the production, when they first started the critics canned them badly for having a boring production. Apparently, that got Tuomas to work on the production to get them where they needed to be.
