The Snowman is beloved cartoon in Finland. It has aired on every christmas since 1992 and is still loved by many kids and parents around the country and is part of christmas traditions for many families, including mine.
And first time in 1983 the -86 and -89 according to Wiki. I bit wondering, did I really saw it first time in late teenager, but it was probably first time 1983 :)
The whole "From wishes to eternity" concert is awsome. I know it more or less since it was released and have watched it so often. Especially this song, then the version of "Dead boys poem" and also "Deep silent complete" and "She is my sin" were maybe my favorites.
Personally this concert was so much better than End of An Era just because of the vibe in the band. This was happy Nightwish not the miserable Nightwish of End of an Era. Musically they still performed well but they did not look happy and that is such a huge part of Nightwish live.
@@mnewm21 Even hearing the title "End of an Era" alone already puts me off somehow. But i also really like the whole atmosphere and lighting of this show more. Bigger is not always better 😉
I think It's pretty crazy that Nightwish was formed 1996 and already back in 2001 they were massively popular, especially in Finland. They pretty much became huge in Finland immediately with their first album when they were just 18-21 years of age. In 2012 one of the 500 limited editions version of the first album was sold on ebay for $1137.23. Today that issue is highly sought after and a genuine copy will cost you several thousands. I myself own a limited edition vinyl from Nightwish, but that will stay wrapped in original packaging and stored forever 😊
I've always had a special place in my heart for this song. I watched The Snowman every year when I was little and now I watch it with my kids. It touches my heart.
Did you recognize how young Emppu is in this video. I'm always impressed by how he keeps his solos so tasteful and never really shows off. Thank you so much for your great reactions ❤
So true, Emppu is a very tasteful guitarist, always on with the lovely ("Gilmourosque") tone and never showing off. Always so active and funny on the live shows too! 😀
I did had watched The Snow Man multiple times before. So pleased you did this one. This was the first song I ever heard of Nightwish and it stays with me forever and ever. So joyful to watch. Yes this was 2000 a year before Marko entered the band replacing Sami Vänskä, 1976 (Member 1986 - 2001) Before joining Nightwish he played in Nattvindens Gråt, as did Tuomas Holopainen. He joined Nightwish for the second album, Oceanborn. After recording the Wishmaster album, Holopainen asked the band's manager, Ewo Rytkonen, to request Vänskä to leave the band, thinking that the musical differences between him and Sami were too great. He was soon replaced by Marco Hietala, ex-bassist of the band Sinergy. Since leaving Nightwish, Vänskä has played with the jazz band Root Remedy.
Tuomas says that this Snowman tune is one of the most beautiful melodies he knows and one reason why he wanted to do a NW version of the original. This concert is pre Marco times after releasing their 3. album Whismaster to me still the most genuine era. Sami Vänskä did the bass before Marco but he did not sing and was not in the spotlight so much. See this awesome concert totally and find the male guest singers too.
You should definitely check more from Wishes to Eternity live show. It's the real Nightwish,Tarja at her best, almost no backtrack, this show has an amazing energy.
Hey Travis and Susi when you like to go on a Roudtrip in Nightwish s History than Check out From Wishes to eturnety Live DVD Walking in the Air is one Song of this Pease also have fun in Nightwish s History
I was very pleased that Suzi knew The Snowman. Yes the song was originally sung by a Choir Boy named Peter Auty. They wanted to re-record it for something later but by then his voice had started to break and another Choir singer named Aled Jones made it famous as a single, which I think was No.1 in the UK.
Taking such a classic song loved by so many and then paying homage with their interpretation while doing it justice, that is the sign of greatness. This song is from my childhood too and 'The Snowman' is a legendary animation, so for Nightwish to do what they did just shows how great they are.
Brilliant. Tarja and Floor are the best Singers in Nightwish. Song Composer is Howard Blake.Nightwish changed a bit then. The Drummer, Tarja, the Bassist and his Replacement Marco are not in the Band anymore. Check out another beautiful Cover Version of this Song by Rainbow. Only masterful instrumental Performed on their 1983 LP, Bent Out Of Shape. One of Ritchie Blackmores finest moments.yes it's from the cartoon short movie Snowman. Love all, song, this Performance and movie. 👍
Sometimes to be a "purist" its a good thing, sometimes. And about Nightwish I'm a purist. I loved them with Tarja and whatever talent has Floor (and she is awesome by the way, WAYYY talented) Nightwish with Floor are great but with Tarja were MAJESTIC. And here in this live (without also the "chick-trap" Marco, no fence he is GREAT and his contribution in the band was too much notable) the millenions that know the band with Floor AND ONLY, will see what "was" that band/project back then. And how way ahead they were from the rest pile of shit that called "female fronted metal band" in that era. REUNION NOW TUOMAS !!!!
The original Bass Player is Sami Vanska He play from 1997 to 2001 by Nightwish In 2001 cam Marco Hirtala to Nightwish and Play 20 Years For Nightwish in the last Month Quit Marco the Band
Nice selection! It is easy to ride along on the popularity of Floor. But Tarja is nailing this song in a way even Floor must (take a very small) bow to her. Good find!
the original formation of Nigthwish: Sami Vanska (Bass) Jukka Nevalainen (drums) and the rest you already know ... please react to the song Swangsong from the same recital !!
Check out Anettes live version. It’s very different and amazing. The video quality sucks though but the audio is okay. You can really hear her voice shine.
This is still my favourite Nightwish song. Like how they let Jukka loose in the end in this. If you like Lotr stuff, check a fanmade video of this song. His channel is JanklerTV, the video isa compilation of the Hobbit trilogy, like especially where they fly with eagles. It's well in sync with this song, and it has about 10 million views.
I love Nightwish but i hate the style when a singer sings every note too late. I get that it is to add drama or something, but even then it should be done 10 % of the time, not 90 %.
