I’m a little faster in an Alphafly than when in a Vaporfly but the arch and toe box are the things that get me shifting to Vaporfly. Before I’ve watched your video, I’ve already read about the improved (or not so aggressive) arch and wider toe box. So I’m really looking forward to getting my hands (or feet) on a pair.
You are an inspiration to me. Not only on running but on thinking about life in general. I hope I will meet you someday in person and share a coffee or dinner.
When I tried my friend's older alphafly3, I could feel some discontinuity in the midfoot where they removed some midsole material. My new AF3 arrived yesterday and when I tried it, i could feel no discontinuity. It felt much smoother. I'm worried i could feel less smooth ride when I use it more in the future.
@@SagasuRunning i believe I'm mid. I could feel the discontinuity behind the airpods, and then in front of the airpods. Only in the volt model that was race worn several times by my friend. It's like the zoomx has softened a lot for him. You may not feel it yet since yours is still new. Look inside, there are still some spaces covered only by thin midsole below.
@zixednatz wearing someone else shoe is always only as they are molded to that’s person feet, not yours. The AF3 is fairly durable and it should stand up to quiet. A bit of use…. Especially when molded to your feet.
@@SagasuRunning i hope you're right. I will be using it in a full marathon on August24. Do you suggest I use it in my last long run of 13.1miles one week before the race as my familiarization and breakin?
@zixednatz I suggest using it more. I’m a big proponent of doing all your important runs in a marathon build in the shoes you’ll race. Familiarization is important.
I am faster in the alphafly over the long distance over vaporfly. I dont have the issue of curve midsole everyone gets but i dont get bad bog toes. I find the weave is a bit stiff. The best upper so far for me is the motion wrap in the magic speed 3. The flattening of the outsole will proabably help with the possible tear that often happen over time.
The efficiencies of the AF over the VF over the marathon are undeniable… but still the VF has always felt better to me. I too never got the arch issues… but I had the big toe issues for sure! I agree the Asics magic wrap upper is outstanding with much better lockdown. Also the MS3 upper is the best one, I totally agree.
I've got all my PR's in the v1 and very excited about this one. That price point however... Makes me want to consider the discounted Endo Pro 3. One other thing: I don't think there is such a thing as "optimal forefoot" striking. There is nothing wrong with heel striking. It all depends on not over or under striding.
Prices seem to be what they are now. Sadly they are not going to go down. As far as optimal foot strike. I agree. Everyone’s biomechanics are different… not overstraining is the issue. However, the AF has always been optimized for a forefoot strike… Nike has worked hard to make the AF3 much more accommodating though.
The continues midsole design removes the problem of the air unit being torn apart from the shoe. This was a problem I have seen repeatedly on our local marathon users. This year alone I have seen four instances of this happened very early in the shoes life, less than 100km of use.
Yup, they was a result of someone off angle foot strikes possible with the exposed outer edge of the AirPods. Additionally, the lower foam block looks much more robust and the AF3 shouldn’t supper from them splitting of the outsole like the Nike Tempo did. The AirPods are definitely better protected, at least as much as the inherent design of them can be.
I like the vaporfly 1 for very short distances, under 4k. But anything above that, I do better with the slightly higher stack and air pods of the Alphafly. I also really like the Nike Tempo Next, my personal favorite daily running shoe.
It expect it to be similar to the AF2 in stiffness, though it looks as if it hugs the heel a bit better given the tweaks to the design. I won’t be able to fully say until I run in them though…
Unclear on the ZF’s future direction. I do expect a “Tempo 2”, which will likely have a similar last and plate design as it’s the training companion to the AF3. Thank you for the support.
I really like Alphafly 2 after I completed my first marathon in them. Looking forward to be able to snatch a pair in a few weeks time. I was surprised how expensive the Alphafly 2 are being priced in Taiwan.
You should be able to find some incredible deals on the AF2 soon, in the West, at least. Taiwan doesn’t often get sales on imported goods like the West. You may see 10% discounts but that’s more going to be around a holiday or store event. Also the main source of Nike running recently closed in Taipei… so it’s going to be even more complicated to get them here.
I loved the v1, didn't like the 2, the 1 gave me PB after PB, but I was really slow in the 2. I'd prefer my 3 year old alpha fly one over a freshly bought v2 in a heartbeat... I'm still not dure about the v3...they have a 8mm drop, which is probably what I disliked about the v2...
I would expect there was plenty more you disliked about the v2 other than the drop. It’s also odd, one thing most people disliked about the v1, even those who liked the forefoot feel, was the low drop. The v3 seems like it evolved from the v1, not the v2… but there were some improvements in the v2 (the drop, stability, the heel counter…).
@@SagasuRunning sounds promising. I will go get the furst available edition anyway, so I'll see for myself. Right now, I'm rotating between several asics, hoka and altra shoes...none of them are above 5mm...but regardless of what I might say at one point. I couldn't stand not trying the AF3...so I'll buy them
