NIKI - On The Drive Home (Official Lyric Video) 

Idk how correct my interpretation is, but for me this song is about sensing the end of a relationship while still being in love with one's partner. She began the song with the absolutely amazing lines describing how much she is still in love with her partner but there is this tension/awkwardness between them. She thinks that this tension is her fault. Afterwards, she talks about how in eight months after their eventual breakup, her partner will forget her(signified by them wiping her tears of their shoulders, no longer giving much thoughts about her. or it could be his own tears, i'm not sure). However, they will cope with this loss with alcohol and surrounding himself with cold and opportunistic people which will in turn, change them. She will grief this loss, but eventually heal (stripes that chip and dry for me symbolises scars that dry up and heal), as much as she misses them ("you won't be listening to my cries anymore"). She also adds that after their eventual end, they will become lost. They will lose their comfort places and drift through this world, lost and alone. She goes back to the present, in which they are driving home and snow patrol is playing on the radio. She asks them to take the long way, signifying that she wants to enjoy this quiet moment while they are still together, as long as it may be. (now that i've thought about it, this song can also be interpreted as someone who is anxious about a relationship ending)

"And your home will change into four walls and a mini-fridge instead of four limbs and a lips to kiss" is sophisticatedly written.

this song feels like a love that you haven't gotten fully settled into yet you can see the end of it in the rearview mirror

I think this song is about the girl's overthinking. The way she notices the blank space between them or confusion of the relationship or the lost connection to her lover, would end up them in a sad and lonely situation. The thoughts and scenarios that would happen if they drift away as two people not intertwined. But in the end, she knew that it was all her thoughts running inside her mind. "keep your eyes on the road" which means to me, "keep your self focused on us together as long as we can" Overthinkers can't help but to relate with the composition of the lyrics. It is such a sad song to sing.

while i love that we got an official release of OTDH, i'll forever miss the "dear, do you hear what I hear? the crackle of fear in the atmosphere" lyric in the original version.

This song is the perfect song to clear your mind, or the right song when you are going for a quiet and peaceful night stroll. You know, just keeping your eyes on the road and cherishing every moment on the drive home.

sometimes songs have a way of finding you, like they know when you need them most. this song showed up at a time when i was feeling extremely lonely because this guy i liked didn't like me enough to be with me. and this song reminds me of what we did a lot together... drive around the city. it's a shame that we never got anywhere even though all we did was drive and talk. i guess even when we reached our destination, at the end of the day all we did was drive in circles.
