Currently building a house and had to move back home with my wife and child too. To put it nicely, its become a fricken nightmare, constantly walking around on egg shells and resolving conflict left right and centre. If we all stay alive till the build is a complete it'll be a bloody miracle!!!

UPDATE: Wow! This got a lot of great comments. My point was that in America family doesn't come first here. Jobs do. So living with family is seen as a bad thing. It's not! When my grandma got old she lived with my aunt Mary. Not because she had to but because WE LOVE EACH OTHER!!! What a concept! Americans are taught to leave your parents and families and NEVER LOOK BACK! That's f'd up! That doesn't happen in most minority cultures. At least that's been my experience. Must be a white thing. My parents moved in with me when they got old. It was fine. We're Mexican so it's normal to live with extended family.

There was a pretty significant campeign to break up extended families in order to create a larger consumer base. This coincided with the rise of car culture and the skuttling of skuttling of us public transportation. Because if various factors like urban flight and red lining and such white communities were more encentivized to buy into this radical individualist consumer lifestyle.

No, it's not a "White" thing!!! I'm Asian and the thought of going back to live with the parents would result in what Conan described! Same for every friend that I know! And I would definitely not be ok with them moving in! Maybe in an unusual and necessary circumstance. But normal times, no way!!!

@@Mary.R. I'm Asian too & it's perfectly fine for parents to live with their children. They should be ok with their children sleeping with their married partners. That's what marriage is for.

If by "White" you mean "Wealth", then yes... because living in an extended family group is an economy measure. People don't move out of their parents because they cannot afford to. As soon as any culture starts acumulating enough wealth, that tradition of group living breaks down. It happened first with white people (not all white people, the rich and the middle class; note Conan's remark about Cathlolics, which is his Irish Immigrant heritage) because they got a head start, but now that weath is less racially concentrated, "communal family" is less common among all ethnic groups across america, europe and asia. (there is a major crisis in China and Japan because they have a serious aging population and a generation of unmarried young women who are not willing to quit their jobs to become unpaid geriatric nurses, which was the "traditional" system)

I’ve always thought this was one of the worst things about our society. This stigma that you’re not good enough or somethings wrong with you if you live with family. Why not help them? Why not save money? They just want to get another consumer out there as soon as possible. Spend spend spend

She’s right. Culturally in some parts of Asia, it’s not looked down upon to live with your parents as adults. There’s no stigma attached to it like in the U.S.. Some of the Asian immigrants in the U.S. live with their parents in the U.S. and have 3 general households, too. It’s just cultural differences.

I love Conan, been watching since the first night of the first show on NBC. And he and Sona and Matt and guests helped me through the pandemic. During lock down in NYC I re-watched lots of past bits as well as the travel shows more than once and thankful for the laughs and the laughter. The best, most consistently excellent comedy for the past 25 plus years! Also, Nikki Glaser is hysterical and does seem like a genuinely good person. What I don’t love? Making a bit about the straws and at the same time plastic water bottles abound on set. I noticed the bottles on another episode but no one said anything about the straws or saving the ocean, etc. But since they mentioned it here: What up Team Coco?! Why still with the plastic water bottles? I know we are all doing the best we can but this is disappointing and also, as it’s on camera, its either a thoughtless inclusion or an intentional one. Either way it’s a bummer. Does Team Coco have water bottles? If so, Show and Sell! And if not, Now is the time!

It shouldn't be THAT weird to live with your parents. Some families are close. Side note: it's VERY privileged to be able to stop working during the pandemic. I wish more people in entertainment would recognize that and maybe think about how it sounds.

I moved back to my parents' house and I stayed there for just a month. It was impossible. And as Conan said, I love my parents and we get along great, but it was impossible to stay there!

May I kindly please ask you to elaborate on the why..? Perhaps as an East African, I am facing a cultural gap in understanding but it’s so common to like your family and live with them forever here. I am single and working and live with my parents and when I get married, I will move them in along with my in laws and everybody helps raise the kids. It has always seemed so natural and the only way but moving away from family intentionally in the west seems more of the norm. Does this a raise from conflict in the family or just as a rule? Thank you, I would love to understand better.

@@megaladon6345 sure thing! First, I started living alone. Then, I moved out with my GF but unfortunately, we broke up and at that moment I decided to go back to my parents' place due to the covid. However, with all those years living by myself, all my habits changed and they collided with my parents' routine and that had a big and negative impact. To summarize this, if you live alone, do not go back to your parents' house. That's my advice.

This part kinda made me feel shitty but honestly they're just cracking jokes. I've enjoyed remaining close with my family over the past couple years. We get along pretty well. I've saved a lot of money and my dog has a lot more room to run around in as opposed to the small apartment I used to live in. My career is moving along nicely which I wouldn't say it started off red hot after college. I've got a lot in student loans I'm trying to figure out. It just is what it is. If you're like me don't hang your head low. They're just cracking hacky jokes and there's plenty of reasons why it's okay to be at home and there's also no reason to have to explain yourself. On the flip side, imagine breaking even every month because of high rent just so you don't feel "embarrassed".

Unfortunately, I lost tons of respect for her when she made comments in support of Amber Heard during the trial. OF COURSE, people are entitled to their own opinion and that’s perfectly okay, but in order to make a valid argument, you need to AT LEAST be able to back it up with some thoughts. Nikki basically said that we should trust Amber because “she is a woman.” OBVIOUSLY we need to trust women more in this country as that is a huge problem in society, but there is literal proof that Amber is guilty and Nikki didn’t provide and thoughts on why Amber is correct other than her gender. I lost tons of respect and I usually don’t for celebrities 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤷🏻‍♂️
