Tom Pettersson once said like 10 years ago that Nikki doesn’t play bass on stage. Sixx is a poser. It’s just coming out to light now cause of the lawsuit.

How could someone stand onstage and pretend to be playing an instrument? It's so dishonest and it's completely lacking in integrity. Sixx has been at it for decades, if he still doesn't know how to play the instrument, he should retire. Milli Sixx. Nikki Vanilli.

I think that Motley Crue made 2 good albums. The 1st 2. Otherwise, I couldn't care less. When Nikki auditioned for Quiet Riot, he couldn't tune his bass.

But. Pickle sixx played. The tromboner male sax. And skin flute on all songs on every album

Rockers who “almost made it” usually have good stories that wind up in documentaries. The Sunset Strip story is pretty epic because it covers a lot of territory. It’s totally possible Werman did mixes with hired guns or Mick Mars overdubbing Nikki’s bass - David Gilmour did that in Pink Floyd, Billy Gibbons did it in ZZ Top, and it’s not that uncommon. Bob Ezrin used Hunter & Wagner on PF,KISS, & Cooper sessions.

Why do people think drug addicts are capable of professionally playing on a record? Why are you surprised to hear that drug addicts and alcoholics didn’t play on the record? You guys know what kind of level of skill it takes to record to tape? A lot of good musicians that you’d think sound just fine live… can’t record to tape. You had to be great not just good. Most of your favorite records have session players on them whether they admit it or not, ESPECIALLY, back in the day when you recorded to tape.

Motley Crue was closest to being a genuine, credible band from their inception in 1981 up until the release of "Shout At The Devil" in 1983. At the time they'd recaptured the vibe and spirit of early Kiss that the actual Kiss had lost touch with by then. But immediately after success the Crue started to fall apart, Sixx getting himself too strung out to write or play decently, Neil and Lee getting too f***ed up, and so on. Mick Mars was always the most stable, when compared to the others I guess isn't saying much, but still. By the time it came time to record "Theater Of Pain", it's little wonder the only songs anyone remembers are the cover and the ballad. The rest of the album is weak. There probably is some truth that others had to be made to play bass on the record. Before the heroin took hold, Sixx could at least write songs and play basic-bass competently. And I guess he got himself together enough to get through "Girls Girls Girls" and "Dr. Feelgood", neither of which I care for.

I tried starting about 3 bands in my life. Its hard to find musicians who aren't hacks and or weirdos. A lot of them are either too obsessed with what the current flavor is or the complete opposite and try too hard create the next big thing but only end up making unlistenable noise. Just my limited experiences

One day (soon I hope) The world will recognize that the entire entertainment industry has been playing you since the TV was invented (and even before). WAKE UP! I was in the Girls Girls Girls video and my brother and I got MORE screen time on the first cut of the video than these lame-brains because they were so damn BORING! They even asked my brother to ride (a Harley) the next day because Mick Mars didn't know how to ride. Mick eventually did end up riding, but my point is that it's common practice to misrepresent something on camera just to give the illusion on film. Warrent didn't play their own guitar solos on the first album, Ringo's drums were replaced by Paul - and the list goes on & on. The news media is the WORST! Break away from the matrix... 😉 Think for yourselves! It's all B.S.

He could have played because the bass lines are mediocre at best. Very meat and potatoes. If Sixx was so lame, how come Mick Mars decided to join him? Not defending him at all. I agree with you, Doc. Leon was being bitter.

It's obvious now that Nikki isn't playing bass. But jeez. He wrote the songs. You'd think he could play bass by now but Paul Stanley makes mistakes all the time live and he's been playing those songs since '73. I saw the TOP tour and I think Nikki was replaced by that Trippe guy for the tour. Just didn't have the star quality on that tour. I think for sure he was replaced live on that tour. Never even thought about it till recently but if you watch TOP footage you can tell it's not Nikki.

As great as the 80s were for music ,heres the hairsprayed,eye lining nail painting non musical pretty boy underside that we hate to acknowledge but we must because of...well chicks ,thats all it is ,you had your lame ass playing male barbies so the girls could be apart of the scene too ,like your with your girl you listen to poison and crue ,get you a piece and soon as she leaves you flush your system out with the best musical drano , Slayer,Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth and the world was back to normal

Nikki didn't have time having to do drug testing. He tested all the drugs in LA. He had to make sure all those drugs were safe. That took some time.

Once the 3 amigos decided to treat Mick dirty the Band became Mostly Crud! John 5 is an excellent guitarist and a great choice to play the gigs. Mostly Crud should have stayed retired.

Everybody who was involved in those albums under contract, probably signed non-disclosure agreements if they brought in ringers. So to break one of those, you will be facing a lawsuit for a hefty sum.

Saw MC in Sacramento in 85. They were a joke. The only real musician on stage was Mick, Nikki just COULD NOT PLAY. It was obvious to anyone that took 4th grade music lessons the Nikki was faking it, just pretending. We all got to hear Vince's SHRILL voice squeak like a chipmunk getting stomped to death. I left angry, and to this day, I STILL WANT MY MONEY BACK

This is a lie, according to Doc. He said there was no way anyone else played a note on those 1st few albums unless they snuck in from 3 am to 8 am. He said he wasn't great, but he worked very hard to keep getting better. Nikki is an easy target if you want to talk shit about it. He is a huge drama queen...always fighting or talking smack to other bands. He is almost a bigger drama queen than you boneheads on hear talking shit about something you know nothing about. This dude talking smack, the same person who couldn't make it when almost everyone was getting signed? Never heard of this guy until he started spreading lies. There are plenty of things to complain about regarding Nikki...this isn't one of them.

You can say what you want about Sixx and his bass playing but his biggest and most important asset to the band was/is his songwriting. No other songwriter in the rock genre wrote more hits than he did in the 80s. Without the songs, MC is just another hair band. And VN is not a singer either but his look and stage persona had the sex appeal to win over the girls. MC always understood this was a business first, and the music is secondary. KISS did the same thing... their entire gimmick was their over the top personas makeup/look and their live shows. They understood that at a very early age because the reality is, if they got up on stage in jeans and t-shirts, no one would have cared about their music because its really not that good... lets be honest. Their biggest hits were written with other songwriters much like Bon Jovi. This is rock and in rock, looks and attitude come first, then the songs. MC had all three (looks, attitude, and songs) firing at full speed from 1981 to 1991. To the bands credit, their 1994 album was great but fans don`t know what good music is and they only wanted VN back which proves my point... fans don`t really know what good music is, but they do want attitude and the look. Unfortunately, since VN returned, MC has been nothing but a money grab but the fans eat it up anyway. Keep It Stupid Stupid.

I saw them with Ozzy on the Shout at the Devil tour. I was about 16 and I will say that it was the first time I ever left a concert thinking that was terrible. I went there to see them and was very disappointed. Love your videos!

As a drummer I played with about 25 bands from the late 80's through the length of the 90's. It's a regular thing to have studio drummers for the sake of being efficient for the overall budget. Met Nikki in the 90's once = ick personality.

True or not it is humorous listening to all these "never was" musicians suffering from "Mustaine Syndrome" because they either got fired or left a band in 1982 before the band hit it big.

Heck, it's now coming out that Casper the "Friendly" Ghost was a real dick to the paranormal researchers who discovered him. Talk about ingratitude.

I liked there first couple records but after seeing them live my opinion changed they were really bad it was theatre tour still enjoy there studio albums though

Weird how he can barely play bass but when you look at the liner notes on the first two albums (the only ones I really care about) just about every song says Music and Lyrics: Nikki Sixx. I wonder how he was writing the music if he can barely play?

Who knows. That being said, Nikki is responsible for a lot of Motley's best (and worse) music as a songwriter.

Wouldn’t surprise me at this point. Especially since hearing that Mick hadn’t played on their last few efforts, & he’s the one who can actually play. Perhaps the engineer or session player who was playing was only playing for certain parts Nikki couldn’t get down, & not the entire record. That would be the more realistic scenario to me. I’m a pretty solid guitarist & the scrutiny of recording truly magnifies what you need to work on as a player. Keep in mind too, we live in the days of Pro Tools now for production, where you can do all takes you want with the click of the space bar. Think of how scrutinizing the process was back then recording on tape, not too mention the costly rate of the studio itself. You gotta have your chops & stuff down. So considering financial restraints & deadlines, I can totally see some secret personnel doing some stuff behind the curtain.
