I bought 2 packs of the hellgrammites in the green watermelon w/ red flake when I was getting something to drink from a gas station that’s also a bait & tackle shop. I was only going to buy 1 pack but the bass around Missouri love the rubber lures in green watermelon w/ red flakes colors. I’ve caught my biggest bass this year on those colors. Im glad I got two packs because just in my first day I caught over 10 largemouth bass between 1 and 3 pounds on my friends private 4 acre lake at his farm. All of those were caught on the one and only lure I rigged up and it’s still in perfect condition ready to be used much more. Which surprised me because most soft plastic lures I’ve used in my life are worn out, missing some pieces off it, and the spot where the hooks are Texas rigged get worn out too so it’ll slide around a bunch and mess up the setup. But not this one, it took a lot of bites, over 10 bass, and isn’t missing any pieces off it, and the Texas rigged hook is still holding in there perfectly I was going to use a jig head to do it in a nedrig but I decided to do a Texas rig with a tungsten bullet weight & a 2/0 offset hook since i was fishing around a bunch of lily pads and other snags. I wasn’t gettin many bites and only caught one bass at first but once I swapped to the watermelon green hellgrammites I was gettin tons of bites and catches.
Thanks for the tips on the Nikkos! I am planning on getting some later today and putting them to the test here in NEPA! That 3rd technique on the hellgramite with the bullet weight on the front, I have been using that for a lot of my plastics these days. Especially anything with a thick body. Been explaining it as Skinning the hook. Put it through and then you can simply skin the very top of the plastic to leave it weedless but increase your hookup ratio by almost 60%! Glad to see others doing that as well, especially pro staff! A sign I am not crazy when I do it! Haha! Best of luck and tight lines! 🎣🎣🎣
Thank you for the info. Trying these for the first time and wanted rigging tips. I watch Creek Fishing Adventures and the Nikko hellgrammite is his go to lure. Edited after I watched your whole video and you have a shout out to Creek Fishing Adventures 👍👍👍Great tips thank you.
Your welcome, hopefully I was able to help with the versatility of these baits. Make sure if you get a chance check out the new Craws and the new colors for the bass worms! Enjoy!
I fish a lot for river smallmouth in some very rocky areas was wondering what brand that swinging football jig head was that you were using to rig that first hellgrammite
How and where did you get the stuff to rig up the peanut butter and jelly toad with small squirter? And what size hooks are you using for those little toeds?
www.tacklewarehouse.com/Missile_Jigs_Ikes_Micro_Jig_2pk/descpage-MJMF.html. Zman sells some new micro jigs as well. The tadpoles fit on the great! My wife actually was trolling the jig being bored lol and she started slamming crappie on it!
I like using 1/16 in creeks, 1/8 in shallow water 1-3 ft range and 1/4 between 3-10 ft range. I now use solely the Zman EWG Ned's. So much easier than the traditional with less snags. I also use thier bulletz weed less jig head. Same sizes.
They actually aren't over priced. A single hellgremite will catch 100+ mean smallmouth bass. They wont even look phased. A 4 pack lasts me half the summer as long as i dont break them off. The no free shipping is a bummer but trust me they are worth it
