But it wasn't a basket so with the stoppage the ref would have to start the play regardless. So he would have to have gotten the ball handed to the ref and then wait for the ref to hand the ball back.. at that point most likely negating the "advantage" . He knows he messed up and is just trying to make an excuse on the fly... Fine both of them (not that with the money they have means anything)... But fine them and call it a day...

This is exactly the point. First off i have never seen it written anywhere that fan hasta return the ball. A referee is an official and has the right to demand the ball if necessary. Jokic diving in the the crowd to forcibly remove the ball from a fan's hands was already thin ice. But no matter what the ref has to possess the ball and reset before play can resume. All of this is separate from the fact that none of it excuses jokic for shoving a fan. If they let this slide they set a precedent. U cant have fans thinking they are at risk from the players.
