I traded my 70-200/2.8 VR ii for a 200/2 VRii. There is no comparison with regard to image quality but I do miss the versatility that 70-200/2.8 VRii offers. Both are great lenses to use.

If ı used 200mm as the focal length the most, i would definitely go for the 200mm f2 vr. That bokeh is just out of this world. Otherwise 70-200 does also very good job.

I've also got a 300/2.8 VRii. It works great with my D500 for shooting sports. But i'm tempting to upgrade to 400/2.8 VR FL E for more reach. Have you ever tried that beast? What do you think?

400mm 2.8 is a different beast then 300mm 2.8. I tried the older version 400mm 2.8 vr. And it is amazing. Then new version is much lighter. If i had enough money, i would buy the 400mm fl in a heart beat. Check out my 200mm f2 vs 400 2.8 video. It will give you some idea, becaue 200 f2 vr has similar quality to 300 2.8 vr ii. funny my 300 2.8 ais can do the same if not better image quality of the 200 f2 for only $600.00

i own both the 135 F2DC and the 200mmF2. Both excellent lenses. But the big boys beat every thing hands down. Thats why they are so expensive. There is a learning curve with all the big lens, so your technique will count for image quality. You must know how to adjust front and/or rear focus. Also how to hand hold the big bad boys. Thanks for the video. Well done

I see, i needed to do it so, at certain places for getting for and aft blur. Thank you for your feedback. And sometimes the 200 mm f/2 vr was too heavy to handhold.

Nice review bud!! Just want to ask why is the skin tune in 70-200 is better than the 200 ? I noticed that in the photo which the model is sitting in front of ur computer!

H. Fascinating comparison thank you. I own the 200 2.8 and have the 200 f/2 VRII on reserve. The only major concern I have is the weight factor of the 200mm f/2. Ie: Double that of the 70-200! Can I ask how long you are able to shoot hand held without things becoming uncomfortable as usability is as much a factor as functionality. It's also interesting to consider whether clients would ever be aware (or care) about the difference in bokeh which would have obvious implications as to whether an investment in the 200mm f/2 could ever be practical! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Regards, John

Hi John! It is all about the bokeh. According to me it is worth. I can handhold it not long, but that is still ok for many situations. When it comes to customers, they will not even notice even if you had 70-200 f/4. It is all about you.

do you have a higher shutter speed on the VRII ? 2:39 has f2.8 at 1/320 , 400 iso then at 2:57 its 1/500,F2,0 ,400 iso its 3 steps like 2.2 and 2.5 then 2.8, what would make 1/320 to 1/640 (1/400 then 1/500 1/640) this would mean you have almost the same light intensity/strenght if you have same aperture of f2.8 (ok maybe 1 step less) while having a bigger front diameter this would be good you would have more options you can shoot at i have 2 samsung lenses 1 has 67mm front diameter the other 1 has 27 mm front diameter (also the second 1 is smaller) they getting the same shutter speeds/iso at the same apertures so i got no win on those 2 lenses seems like the internal elements also play a role into that but if they deliver more speed thats good the bokeh you can fix but the lens would have to deliver the speed

It's ridiculous comparing the Nikon 70-200vrii lens with the Nikon 200f2 that costs 3 times more and is twice as heavy. The 70-200 vrii lens is a fantastic lens and perfect for portraits, sports and wildlife. These comparison of taking bad pics and then pixel peeping is such a waste of time. Photography is 90% composition/technique and 10% camera and glass.
