PHIL-- My most favorite lense of all time! Bought mine new in 2007 it the lense Iv'e used the most often! Still use it for people photos and Basketball and even weddings and graduation photos! I had to replace the rubber focus ring.I will never sell, it's like it's part of me. 13 years long time still love it. I got excited listening to you show and talk about our favorite lense of all time!! Randy B.

All reviews give the impression that the newer z mount f/2.8 is sharper, but honestly I like the look and feel of this f mount lens better and I suspect the optical quality difference isn’t that big a deal it’s hyped up to be..

Love that lens for landscape photography with the dslrs but never used with the z6 since the 24-70mm f4 kit lens is fantastic for landscapes too. The only thing is it’s a bit heavy for hiking around. Went out this morning with the d750 along with the pair of old Nikkor 28-70mm and 70-210mm. Picked up these lighter versions with the old Nikon F4 and absolutely love them for hiking about. Didn’t think the 70-210mm was worth a try until saw your results with it a while back. It’s becoming my go to lens for walking about. Happy Wednesday!
@PhilThach
@PhilThach 3 года назад
Agreed. It is heavy for a long hike as well as big and bulky in my bag. That's why these days I prefer my APSC Z50 or XT3 for landscapes. I usually save the Z6 for landscape work that doesn't involve a long hike these days. I'm glad you are enjoying the 70-210!!

I forgot to mention that I still regret not getting the 24-70 f/4 kit for landscape photography. I bought my Z6 as body only plus the FTZ. For low light use, live music etc, I'd still use this lens even if I had that f/4.

I liked my new D3 so much back in 2008 that I bought the lens trinity right away, to get the most out of the camera. Since it is a standard zoom lens, the 24-70 f/2.8 is my frequently used lens too. Now that I'm getting a Z6 + FTZ, I hope all my existing AF-S lenses are good enough with the adapter, since I don't want to buy another set of lens trinity. Also, I'm getting a Canon EF To Nikon Z adapter as well and hope to consolidate my AI, EF and G lenses to use with the Z6. If this adapter works as good as the FTZ, then the EF 24-105 f/4, 70-200 f/4 and 85 f/1.2 will see more shooting times.

Where did hear or read Nikon stopped making these in 2015 or period? I'm curious... I bought the VR version and really liked it, but it didn't fit in my bag and the bag I like does not come any bigger, I have a 500mm f/4E VR FL and a 70-200mm f/2.8E VR FL attached to a D5 and D850 or two D5's depending on the assignment or shoot. So the larger VR just didn't fit where the 24-70mm f2.8G does fit. So I just recently bought a 24-70mm f/2.8G and it has a high serial number and no longer has the US engraved on it, although it is a USA version. Mine is like a 1,210,000 serial number and it definitely did not look 5-6 years old. Yes I know they are sealed in the box, but I am not sure you're correct about these being discontinued since 2015.

I’ve had those lens and now have moved on to mirror less and would say they are all amazing. The new mirror less lenses are just a bit smaller and lighter and are sharper. That’s not to say at all that the older lenses are not sharp it just makes it a little easier with the mirror less lenses.

Nice talk, this glass is awesome as long as you have a need for a lens this costly. I found I don’t use this focal length as much as I thought I would, so I got the 35-70mm, but I did paint myself into a corner with the screw drive focus... My other favorite lens for my z6 is the 50mm f1.8. I’m looking forward to growing my collection. I might add a 35mm prime for street photography. How did it balance, especially with FTZ mount?
@PhilThach
@PhilThach 2 года назад
The Z6 is certainly front heavy with the 24-70 f/2.8G installed. But I'm used to using large telephoto lenses so it seems fine to me. After using a 50mm f/1.8, it probably won't feel very well balanced.

I’m thinking about getting into mirrorless (Z6ii/Z5/Z7) but it also just looks awesome to stay in the DSLR line and get myself my first FF dslr, the D780 (i own a D3500 and D7200 now) and just save up for the 24-70mm 2.8 since it’s just cheaper for me to stay with DSLR’s since I already own 5 f mount lenses. What would you do? Get into mirrorless or upgrade my DSLR to a newer pro grade model?

@@PhilThach ok thank you 😊! but I have 1 last question if I may 😛... would you actually first get good FF lenses for the D7200 and afterwards upgrade to a FF body, or just first get a FF body and slowly building up a FF lens collection (right now I own 2 FF lenses, 50mm 1.8G and 150-600mm) I’m 100% sure that I’m going to invest into F mount glass anyway so I can use them on both mirrorless and DSLRs in the future

Thank you for this video. I liked it. I am a d750 user mainly do photos no videos. I am very happy with it but I think eye detect AF and IBIS will increase my speed of capturing moments and and have more keepers. My main lens is Nikon 24-70 2.8g. I purchased a z5 yesterday. I thought that on Z5 it will work at least as good as it worked on D750 for photos. In good light it is true. But in low light most of my pictures are blurry. I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong. I use eye detect in AFS and AFC mode. Very frustrating. It finds eye well but the review of picture show that eye was not sharp. Any suggestion from you will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I used AF 35-70mmF2.8 for marriages and funerals. The focal length 35mm was a problem in small space and I think 24mm will work better. I prefer 85-105mm for portrait but 70mm will work. I'm saving for the AFS 24-70mmF2.8 E VR. Not switched to Z yet becouse I'm waiting for Z8. If the Z8 is not 55 Mpix then I get a D850. I will not get any S-lenses. I use D700 and D800E today for prints up to A2.

@@PhilThachI just find your Channel. I will look after a review on a 70-200mm. I on a limited budget but I stared upgrading my equipment 2 years ago and after my D300 broke down (after only 13 years use) I got a 2nd hand D700 because I could reuse all batteries, memory cards and the vertical grip. I have since then tried to understand the new requirement on lenses for use on a high mega pixel D850. I set a limit to print at A2 as a maximum size and that prompt me to get a 2nd hand D800E. During the years I have been collecting prime lenses as Zeiss and Nikon TC, Nikon AF and AFS lenses. But some of the lenses will not perform optimum on the D850 so I had to solve it by getting two Zooms AFS 24-70mm E VR and AFS 70-200mm E VR. I also have screw driver lenses as AF 85mmF1.8 D and AF 300mmF2.8 IF-ED that I used on the D300, a DX camera. On a D850/D800E/D700 camera the 300mm lens needs to be upgraded to a 2nd hand AFS 400mmF2.8 VR or an AFS 500mmF5.6 E VR to keep the magnification same as before. I’m not Shure when I can afford that upgrade or how often I will use it. I have to use a FTZ adapter if I get a Z-camera because I cannot afford to replace all my F-lenses. If I get a Z camera my backup cameras only can use F-lenses and not the S-lenses.

I just purchased a Z8 and the best feature of that body is the ability to use full IBIS for lenses that don't have a VR system on it. You're getting way more VR to go lower shutter speeds when hand held. I'm curious to know how good is the weather sealing on this specific lens and when used in conjunction with the FTZ II adapter on the new mirrorless systems. I know for sure that the FTZ II is weather sealed and so is the Z8. Just wanna know if you ever got caught up in inclement weather with this lens on.
