I wish I could fit this lens into my backpack. The size is the biggest concern, because usually I am also carrying a backup body, a set of lenses including a 14-30, 24-70, 60 mm macro, 70-300 or 150-600, and a drone. Add to it a few sets of batteries, filters, a tripod, and I am at the very limit of what I can carry on a day of hiking. Other than it's weight and size, the lens is magical, everybody should get one.
Thanks for the vid. I'm also a fan of using zoom's with portrait work (studio or location). I made huge use of the Nikon 24-120 f4 for mostly studio portraits for nine years. I could shoot at 85 or take it all the way to 120 if needed. As I mostly shot against studio white and we needed lots of sharpness for my client I would shoot f9 or so. In post I would blur away what we didn't need. A year ago I purchased the Nikon F mount 70-200 f4 that I had rented. I'd used it previously on editorial location assignments at construction sites. Loved using it, and the relatively light weight was excellent. I haven't had occasion to use it for portraits but I'm sure I will. I use Z cameras now but would not want the 2.8 as I know how heavy it is and the cost. It is clearly one of the peak achievements of Nikon in its history of lens design and manufacturing.
Thanks for the informative video. Well done. I'm considering purchasing this lens for use on my Z6II. I'm not a pro but in retirement have really enjoyed getting back into photography. I do a lot of hiking in a nearby national park (short hikes of anywhere from 2-5 miles) and am slightly concerned about the size and weight of the lens. I'm was also considering the 2x lens extender but like the idea of the 1.4x having being a f/4. Thanks for pointing that out. Again, appreciate your video.
I found a usefull application of the functions buttons when shooting in natural light : spot measurement. Try it ! This lens is crystal sharp at 200mm, i love it.
Hi Scott I am a headshot photographer here in Los Angeles and I absolutely love my 70 to 200 S lens it’s amazingly sharp and fast. I am curious I came from the d4 and now using Z62 and z72 and I am wondering have you had any problems with moire pattern I’m seeing it on the Z62 a little bit and I just got the Z72 and I’m concerned that there is no AA filter I shoot a lot of men in suits. the moire is a problem especially with the sharp lenses any feedback on that?
Hi Karen, you know, I just had to make a large print for a client and there was a touch of moire on the suit. I also had to do some cropping which might've contributed to the problem. Unfortunately it's not something I've researched, but let me know if you find anything!
Excellent video thanks. One question did you have to change the tripod mount foot? I have a swiss arca type head and the lens foot is to small! Who did you change yours too, or how did you overcome this situation? Thanks again
sadly on a z7ii this lens will not pick up faces at 70mm when shooting in a gym across the short side of the court. Zooming in fixes the issue but this absolutely ruins its utility as a sports lens indoors. Sad. And with Nikon's refusal/inability to improve the z7ii auto tracking...well...I guess they just want me to buy a z9.
