I love this D70 challenge. It really reinforces the fact that it takes a great photographer to make great photographs. Not just the gear alone.

What I love about this challenge its not about the camera its the game plan you had coming in... You understood your camera you understood the sport and you knew what shots you wanted...

David Galeon I want to see what noise he has in these photos. No way in hell these are remotely usable.
@EphemeralProductions
@EphemeralProductions 6 лет назад
dawfurby: there was great lighting in there so there was no need for him to raise up his ISO for better shutter speed. Even an old camera with have little to no noise at 100 or 200 iso

well that is how it works despite the new younger generation not knowing what they're doing with the camera most of the time they don't even know their history

Just got some photography jobs with my D70s this year. I never advertised and don't have a website or social media. People heard about me through word of mouth. I can't afford a nice lens for my new camera yet but my D70s takes fantastic pictures and will make me $75 dollars an hour for my first ongoing gig. I even got a portrait photography job on top of that. I went from taking bad pictures to taking top quality professional grade ones in just under a year. I bought a D70s, put it in manual mode, kept practicing, and eventually invested in better lenses. The D70s is a beast when you know what you are doing. People loved the pictures I took with it and I enjoyed their reactions when they asked what I used and I told them it was an old D70s.

The D70 is to digital cameras what the DC3 was to airplanes - tough, well made, reliable, and still fun. I still use mine as a backup and love it. With good glass it takes great images. It just proves that the best thing to invest in is great lenses (f 2.8 or faster), and not worry about spending your hard-earned cash on the latest super high mexapixel body.

Really great video. It shows that even if you don,t have the latest or cannot afford the newest equipment it does mean you still can,t have some great results with older gear. I have found out as you state it is all about the glass you use . Also it’s about loving what you do. Thanks again hope to see more future projects from you like this.

I love this concept. As much as I love my XT2, there’s still something magical about my old D90 and 50 1.8. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the gear and forget about technique.

Great video yet again, Jared. As an added bonus, you gave tips on how to capture additional footage for this video. Glass, glass, glass! One day I'll get there. Love the challenge video. Next time try kit glass that came out the same time the D70 did, to maybe show the difference in glass. Just my two cents.

Seeing as how I have a Nikon D40(I bought when my son was 5.. hes almost 14 now) which I'm sure is LESSER of a camera than this one, It gives me hope. I know I need to Upgrade sooner or later. I bought this camera just to Take pics at his baseball games, Always used in Auto mode, NEVER bought a bigger lens(about to do that) As of Christmas of '17 I am FINALLY understanding(thanks to some of your videos) the manual mode settings. Fun video! I really liked the concept. One thing that I might like to see is something like this using Pro glass from previous eras - still AF, but older stuff. I use an 80-200 f/2.8 Nikkor (push pull) a lot and while the AF isn't as fast as the current pro lenses, it works really well. Also, maybe some portrait work using the Pro level AI/AI-S lenses?

To second my other comment, try the Helios 44-2 58mm f2 film lens for a portrait photoshoot, I've used it and found that the bokeh is really smooth. You will have to have a adapter but you can find them on eBay for around 8$ and you can find the Helios for about 50$ on eBay too.

Great shots, would love to see how you processed the images with that noise. The DNG RAW files are noisy at 1600 ISO which is understandable given it is a D70 but you were still able to pull off some really great shots at 1/400 sec ( action shots ) and your final processed images are very clean. I have the hardest time shooting indoor events with my d810 at indoor events because the lighting is generally so bad and inconsistent ( indoor bubble turf stadium with really poor fluorescent lighting ). If I shot at 1/400 sec to keep my ISO at a respectable range then none of my images would be sharp and definitely underexposed...Generally I'm shooting at a minimum of 1/800 and 1/1600 sec, f/2.8 ISO 3200 or 6400, problem is the noise levels....

I've been tempted to get a used D700 as my first full frame camera to play around with. I mostly photograph birds, so a D700 with a telephoto lens, on a cloudy day would be interesting.
@alanhoughton6166
@alanhoughton6166 11 месяцев назад
I use the D700 a lot, but for birds I use a D300 (and a D2Xs, but that's a longer story). Anyway, the D300 gives you extra reach from the crop sensor for birds and is still quite a good bird camera.
