This is a very well rounded camera with a lot of features form 8 frames per second to 4k video recording to great high ISO. Of course it all comes at a cost but I say beginner because a $1,200 starting point for someone looking to get into their first DSLR is not that far off. Of course it's subjective but in my experience selling cameras I think $1,200-$1.800 was a sweet spot for many people.

There`s a lot of PROS that say this camera is not that good, but the only one honest enough to actually shoot with it and be 100% precise, is you. big RESPECT, lot of other people killing Nikon with Ultra Biased reviews to favor other camera makers. I found you because of all the others talking untested crap, I kept digging for the gold, found it here. For someone that needs good stills and also video, this seems to work. When you want to feel like a PRO, you do not use auto focus, unless you are shooting sports or something like it ( I`ll never do that, no need to ).

I have one question(clearly I am not a PRO and I wonder) - I like to hear that Pros use manual focus and don't autofocus and so on, it makes me wanna reach that level. In Live View on a tripod for landscape - fine. But on weddings, events, etc. - you have one tiny viewfinder, where you should decide if your bride is tack sharp and snap a shot. And when I usually do that - the shot is ruined(blurred) - Why would I not trust the technology, which is way faster, way precise than my eye? I really wonder if Professionals are ACTUALLY manual focusing dynamic events and moving people? Thanks in advance!

I tend to listen from many photographers and/or kit reviewers about the drawbacks of bumping up the ISO in cases where not so "fast" lenses are available. While this is true (of course losing light due to aperture needs to be balanced from the ISO - for the moment I leave the shutter speed away), I never hear anyone talking about the specs of a picture taken by a let's say F/1.4. Let me explain, assuming that I have a lens with a F/1.4 aperture capability. In low light, I can use this F/1.4 in order to get more light, but technically the photo I will capture is something completely different to a setting of let's say F/11. So, my question is in cases that for technical reasons we need high apertures (all lenses offer F/11-F/16-F/22 settings for example), why fast and expensive lenses are considered better? (I am not talking image quality, sharpness etc - only light capabilities) I am an amateur photographer and I would really appreciate your comments since currently I would never consider taking a wide angle photo in a stadium like the situation presented by Jared with F/1.2-F/1.4 etc even if I had the lenses to support that.
@bejegerent.2928
@bejegerent.2928 4 года назад
bumping up the iso might make the picture not as sharp, so the wider aperture have more opportunity to use base iso, even in low light situation. and of course, bokeh.

I think yourl ast point is very important... if you get your exposure (and framing) correct, shooting at high ISOs can be a non-issue with many cameras. Most of the noise I see from people's images is when their exposure is off by more than about 1/2 or 1 stop and/or they framed incorrectly (mostly, they didn't fill the frame enough) and they have to crop. I used to not like to shoot beyond 3200 but with more modern cameras (ones made in the last 5-6 years) you can and get good results, IF your exposure is almost correct and you have to do little in post in terms of adjustment of exposure. Well, the two things Nikon screwed up is no aftermarket grip. There is one from Vello that might work (But has just a shutter button, no dials for focus or controlling SS/aperture, but not a big deal if you set your exposure--however it can be a problem because you can't move the focus point from the grip). And the fact Nikon did NOT use a UHS-II card. I can see they wanted to remove the second card to differentiate this more from the D500, fine, but they could have at least given people a faster card so that during bursts, you don't risk slowing down the camera and having to wait for images to be written to the card (UHS-II is about 300 Mb/s versus about 100 MB/s for UHS-I, which can be a big deal if you do a lot of burst shooting / long bursts).

Awesome review as always. Not having a grip is probably not a big deal to most if they have never used a grip. I recently purchased one for my d7200 and man, It is so comfy in any position and battery life for days. 2 card slots is probably not a big deal until you have $1000 worth of images on that one single card as you drive home from the shoot. Scary feeling, I've done it once. I cave dive and the saying in that sport is 2 is 1, and 1 is none. Otherwise, great camera.

new subscriber here. i have always been fascinated with weather. i really like wildlife as well. our backyard is like a 900 acer soy/corn field. their is always very pretty birds and deer. been looking for a camera but man the rabbit hole is deep with a ton of camera options and reviews. it was kinda hard to get pointed in the right direction i felt like. our local camera shop is dealing with a pretty big shortage and said for me to came back around the middle of May they should have more stock available around then. best buy was slim picking as well. both places only had really high end cameras available at around $1800 and up. i gave myself a $1000 budget and ended up deciding on the Nikon d7500 with lens kit. i im happy to get up and going and hope she serves me well. a few fields over we have a piebald deer that has been wondering around. its over 90% white and hope to get a picture or pictures of it. its the only piebald deer i have ever seen.

thats actually a positive for me. I do most of my photography when i go on hikes and having a light body is a real positive. Not to mention being able to pack light when traveling on planes. I am really torn about trading the d7500 in for a z6 or z7 but i also want the 500mm f4 pf (which is another lightweight zoom). If i get the z7 and the 500mm it would be setting aside 7-8k :( But if I don't do the trade for the mirrorless by tomorrow, the trade in deal will expire. :( dilemma

I see a lot of people on the Internet maligning the D7500. Personally, I think it's an awesome camera and that Nikon got only one thing wrong with it: the name. Everyone expected it to be a straight upgrade from the D7200, both in terms of features and intended use, so when it turned out to be different and it lacked some of the key features of the D7200, lots of folks got pissed off about that while ignoring the fact that it's still a great camera. Don't look at the name. Look at the camera. Think of it as a D6XXX series camera: a big step up from a D5XXX camera with some of the features of the D7XXX lineup.
@chrysbalbzstillsandfilm8915
@chrysbalbzstillsandfilm8915 6 лет назад
That's exactly the point, a branding blunder by Nikon. The camera is great all around but Nikon should have gone for other names like the d6xxx as you have suggested. Since d7500 implies a major step up from the d7200, people's expectations are pretty high. I am seriously considering this as an alternative to a6300 for the 4k vid. Only thing holding me back from switching to sony is that all of my glass are f mount and most of them are fx ones, since my original plan is to go fx on nikon, just didn't have the funds yet.

@jameskemp5911 6 лет назад

@Mcappo
@Mcappo 5 лет назад
Not that they got the name wrong you can just see what they are doing. 3xxx series basic entry level. 5xxx upgraded beginner and now 7xxx series are more advance and for hobbyist and Enthusiasts. The D500 is more the professional crop sensor. Then you have your full frames. If the D7500 had the 2 slots grip and AI support then why in hell would anyone buy the D500? For the focus system and 2 more FPS? Totally not worth the $700 in cost difference. Only thing I really think is dumb is the support for grip especially since they are something they can sell and make money on. I personally don’t use a grip but the extra battery life would be nice if I really needed.

Hello Jared! I'm a little new to your videos and I can see I'm four years late. I have a unique question for you, buckleup. I just upgraded to the Nikon D7500, from a Nikon D3200. Reason being as the D3200 was really struggling with an overcast day when shooting at an outdoor event, and I really wanted better quality photos for people to buy. The Nikon D3200 had an auto sports mode which I utlized, but controlled the ISO (because anything over 800 gave me noticeable noise...outside on a cloudy day.) I chose to shoot auto due to the fact I photographed horses, and as they were moving around they moved between shadows and light, sometimes the poles they were jumping were white, sometimes they were black, sometimes the horse was white, and sometimes the horse was black. It was just easier than having to constantly change settings every two seconds. Now with the D7500, I have to shoot manual. I'm wondering your best attack with constantly shifting exposure needs? Thank you!

You state that it's not the camera's fault, but the choice of lens ... what lens might you recommend in a lower light setting, say, with indoor sports, where high noise/graininess becomes a constant issue? If it's not this camera's fault, how do we fix it?

How do you think you would have done with the D7200? How much better is the AF and subject tracking in the D7500? How would the images compare at ISO 10k?

I have this camera. I heard you say the thing about changing a setting that made it only snap the photo when its in focus. Where is this setting? I would rather have this for certain shoots than the full 8fps. I do like the 8fps for when really shooting fast action

Hi, I just subscribed to your channel and bought a new D7500 body off the internet, the plan is to take it on a 6week cross alpes hike and my question is would you say a Tamron 24-70 G2 is a good lense for a alpe hiking trip? and also which two lenses would you have chosen if you were in my shoes and on a budget? Tx !

Hi Jared, if I only shoot tennis, do I need a camera with fast continuous af? I personally found single af to be pretty alright because tennis players set up their position to line up the shot and then 70% of the time move side to side . I recently upgraded from my d5000 to a z5 but ironically it’s a much heavier setup and also there’s no way I can smuggle full frame telephoto glass into the audience 😂

Well...I was going to buy a D5600...but they are apparently impossible to get now...so...I guess I'm going to pick up one of these. "But Mirrorless!" Yeah, tell that to my modest collection of F mount glass. I don't shoot nearly enough, so switching over the whole system wouldn't make sense in my case.

I have a D7500. You talked about the ISO, but what about the shutter speed? What setting do you use on the twisty button. Do you put it on the M, A, S or the P? I’m a beginner on using manual. I have tried it here and there, but it so easy to use the Automatic setting. I need to stop that. Help.

Depends on what are you plan to shoot with the camera. I'd pick the nikon 16-85 as a standard zoom, and a good fast prime, like the 35, or 50mm 1.8 as a starting point. The 18-140 kit lens isn't bad either, but I haven't tried it yet.

Hey my brother! "FRO KNOWS PHOTOOOO!"...Love that! I have a question about my D7500. Doing a shoot, what is GOING ON when in the middle of my shoot, after pressing down halfway.. in focus.. then press down, it won't take a PIC!!?? It shows that I'm in focus, but nothing happens. I turn off the camera, reset to start shooting again. HELP!!

kit lenses means the ones that come in a box with the camera?
@JosteinBakklund
@JosteinBakklund 5 лет назад
Yes, it is usually an inexpensive lens to get you started. I myself started on digital photography 11 years ago, spending most of my budget on a 18-200mm non-kit zoom lens - perfect for traveling, and less money on a bare Nikon D60 body. No upgrades for 11 years, except a fixed 35mm f/1.8 for portraits and candlelit scenarios. Two weeks ago though, I figured out it was time to upgrade to the D7500 body (without any kit lens) as the price where I live, dropped to the equivalent of USD 900. No need for a kit lens, as my old 18-200mm is still my single choice for traveling.

Still recommend this camera as of July 2019? Seems like deals are decent right now for body and upgraded lenses. Its stretching my budget some but ifs its that much better than say 5600 I can make it work. Or is there anything out (other brands) or coming out soon that I should be looking at? Thanks, love the content.

@paulmetdebbie447
@paulmetdebbie447 5 лет назад
@@ddeepp make sure you have the vr version of the 70-300! It is still a great buy the d7500 nowadays even more because of the price dropping to less than 1000 for the body. Image quality will be same as d5600 being perfect. But faster af, more shots/sec and better video. Better handling also.

As a former D5600 owner, I can assure all of you that the D7500 blows it out of the water. I’ve owned Nikon DX models for 10 years, and this is hands down the best model I’ve ever owned. I shoot as an advanced hobby, as well as a side business to accompany my primary career. All of the complaints about this camera (no dual card a slots, lack of battery grip, no AI- index tab, etc) are all irrelevant to me. I own 5 great lenses, and combined with this camera, they produce stunning results. Most of the people who bash on this camera are D7200 owners who’ve never taken a single shot with this model. I’ve yet to meet another D7500 who isn’t completely satisfied with this model. Do yourself a favor and buy it while it’s currently on sale. Amazing camera...

Nothing to say about the 16-80mm f/2.8-4? It is kit on this camera. It looks like such an interesting lens but there are very few vids about it around
@ale.r26
@ale.r26 6 лет назад
I would rather suggest to buy the body singularly and then get a 17-55 used which it is found at the same price (or even less) that 16-80 but it returns a much better IMG quality really. If your main concern is just travel phototography and not landscapes (moisture, water, dust) or fine portraits, the 16-80 is lighter and best choice probably.

How does the D7500 compare to Z 6 in term of AF-C? I currently have the D7500 but would like to make the jump to mirrorless for EVF but I don't want to lose the AF-C autofocus ability of the D7500. Thanks.

Two questions: 1. What do you think about the ISO capabilities of the D7500 compared to the D7200? 2. Sonner or later I plan to upgrade my D5300 to a D7500 or D7200. But I got some "trouble" to choose one of those. I wanna upgrade especially in terms of ISO capabilities, AF (in low light), better handling and some other points. Could you give me some thoughts about this?
