What a joy it has been for me to share my love of photography and the natural world with my children, and now days, my grandsons. I'm sure you feel the same way. Tell your daughter that is she has a youtube or Instagram photo page I'll subscribe right away. Thanks for all the fun.
It was awesome to see her having fun taking photos of the wildlife. She does have an Instagram page for her art. She is quite good at drawing so I think photography will be really good for her.
The Grand Tetons are THE BEST! Period. I saw and photographed a grizzly mama and her cub frolic in the snow for almost an hour in early October 2019. Then just after that, we saw and photographed bull moose, and bison. Amazing place and we hadn’t even begun our stay! Can’t wait to get back.
Another truly wonderful video Mark. My 21 year old daughter is also into wildlife photography (macro more so). On a recent trip to our local nature reserve I had my D850 and 200-500 with me and my D800e as backup. While I was firing away, my daughter, Sarah, was having some problems with her failing Canon SX50. While she was almost in tears with frustration, I fitted my Tamron 90mm G2 Macro lens to the D800e and handed it to her with the words "here, this is your new macro outfit" .... She was open mouthed in disbelief; now we both sit side by side as you did, sharing our passion for photography (made me smile to see that in your video). Just got to get myself a replacement macro lens now....lol! Though (as you demonstrated some time back) the Nikon 200-500 does a stellar job of close up photography. Cheers! From the UK.
Mark, that moment when you and daughter are sitting together and taking photos is something the both of you will treasure for the rest of your lives. What a wonderful experience. Your daughter has a wonderful teacher and your D500 is in good hands. I so want to go to the Grand Tetons... reminds me a lot of Switzerland - a place my late father was so in love with.
Another great video, I like the way you include your shooting into up in the corner. I was so ecited learn this morning that no Yellowstone bears will be killed, they are now protected.
Yes, another great photo / nature video !! A favorite of mine is also seeing you and your daughter enjoying nature and each other's company. Ted from Sebastian
Another special moment with Mark. The wildlife photos were excellent but my two favourites were the blue hour and father/daughter. Thanks for sharing and peace to you and your family. Cheers from BC.
I started following you to learn about nature and bird photography. However, your “short stories” with great narration and footage have turned into regular evening entertainment. There is nothing good on television anymore anyway. Thank you for sharing your time.
Another great video and great still photography. Your storytelling enhances the story behind each photo. Also, nice to see young ones taking an interest in photography. She has a great mentor. She is lucky, most don’t. Thanks for your work.
Nice shots. This is my backyard. That mother bear is called 399 and is the most famous bear in the area. Most years it seems to have 3 cubs. Those are some of the best shots I've seen of it.
Thanks for the compliments. This bear was a black bear. I was lucky enough to see 399 earlier this year with two of her cubs. I made a video of that experience as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-We2ksGXCJIY.html
Another awesome video from you. Loved the part where you wait just for a few minutes for the clouds to come in the Hawk's background and the difference is truly mind blowing. As a bird photographer that was quite relatable.
Thanks. I have some good video of that shot when he crossed the river but I wasn't sure it would work too well because there was some very obvious anatomy swinging away. It was great turning and seeing my daughter sitting there. She had a great time.
Again, such an interesting and funny video along with wonderful pictures of wildlife. Lucky you that ended the day with your daughter nearby .... mine doesn’t understand a word about photography 😂 ! I would gladly take the D500 and the lens on it to learn with the best I heard talking about photography! My hero! 👍
Thanks and you are correct. I'm very excited that my daughter is getting into photography although my wife now says she wants a camera. She might end up with the Z6!
I Always get excited when I see one of your notifications in my feed. Love your work and your story telling bro! Thanks again, all those critters were awesome! See ya in the next one!
Another excellent job! Watch out for the moose as they can be more dangerous than bears. Good to have competition in the family, will keep you on your toes!
Dude Mark!! Love the Bob Ross T-Shirt, you r so cool!!! The picture with your daughter beside you was a very endearing and a beautiful picture, you should put it up in your place, she will love that gesture. I am so jealous of you, your starting to travel all over the place... SOooo jealous, you deserve much more, congratulations and looking forward to more videos... Lou
Dude! I saw you on one of the trails out there! I thought it was you and started to speak, but hesitated. You actually spoke to my grandson! Awesome photos. Grand Teton is my favorite place on earth. Thanks for sharing!
Mark, that was absolutely wonderful! Through your amazing photography you show me places and wildlife I would never be able to photograph in person. Many thanks, and congratulations on reaching 20,000 subscribers! Makes my channel look silly! But you have to start somewhere I guess!
Each time I watch your videos I realize how talented you are and this one is no exception, you deserve way more than 20k subscribers at this point, the bird of prey of question by the way is a Ferruginous hawk (light-morph) I guess, not so sure.
Mark Smith I actually watched this video with my daughter on our big screen and she was jazzed to hear your daughter was with you and using one of your cameras. :)
Thanks Mark for another fun filled and informative video. And yes you've lost your camera to your daughter(am sure she's an accomplished photographer in her own right). Congratulations on the 20K🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful stuff Mark, you thoroughly deserve reaching the 20k mark, no pun intended! I'm on a trip myself next week from the North West of England to the Isle Of Mull in Scotland. Taking my D500 and 200-500 White -tailed Sea Eagle hunting among other things, so fingers crossed. Best wishes.
honestly man the holidays are coming up if she wants something very similar but a little more beginner friendly and lighter (by weight and on your wallet) for near the same experience, and lens compatability, look into a d7500, it mirrors the d500's specs except for af points and sensor size :P you and your wife could look at getting one for her for christmas
your long shutter speeds @ the start had me pretty excited Ive bein trying it at night with my F4 using the electronic shutter release cable Im yet to try it with color film but the sky is a awesome motion blur which creates that perfect slow shutter speed effect not mattering on the asa in my terms lol ISO too mutch good watch mark watch out for those bull horns
Hi Mark, you should sometime hook up with another RU-vid Nikon guy - Steve Mattheis. He lives near the Tetons and like you is passionate about his subjects.
Great video! I visited the park last summer. It ranks very high on my list of beautiful places; just incredible. I wonder if that was mama bear 399 and her cubs. I just missed seeing her when I was there. (There was a male following her, and the ranger kept us silly humans well away.)
Thanks! This was not 399. This was a black bear. I had the pleasure of seeing and photographing 399 and her cubs earlier this year. If you haven't seen the video, you can see it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-We2ksGXCJIY.html
Thanks. I’ll check it out! I forgot Ms. 399 is a grizzly-my bad! I spent several days in the park, riding around on my motorcycle and taking photos. I was so taken by the beauty that I never even rode into Yellowstone NP. I did check out Mormons Row several times (including in a storm, which was really cool).
Hi Mark, I enjoy your videos & stills. I use a D5 with the 600mm f4 for sports & attach to a D500 for wildlife. Just wondering if you will be considering the Nikon 500mm f5.6 pf when it is finally released. Cheers from Australia.
