This is the setup that I've been using for about two months now. D500 with this lens and I can shoot all day hand-held and it's crisp as hell. Great video man.
Privet Ken 😊 Would you still recommend it today on a D500? Btw, I got it in 2017 with a 105mm macro and a 35mm dx and now Just put the famous 17-55mm you advised and it’s the « siski » as you’d say 😂 More seriously, I considered long and hard getting a Z7 before the latest purchase but then went back to optimize my existing system for the image quality difference is virtually unchanged for much less. Sayonara and thanks for any feedback 😊
Addendum: I found a 80-400mm at 380€ (408$) and a 200-500mm at 800€ (860$) which one would you recommend knowing that the 1st will allow more versatility being lighter to carry around? Please answer mudjik! :)
The sharpness of this lens is in my opinion about right for the price. Personally I'd give it 8 out of ten. Its the least sharp of all my variable aperture zooms and I've tried 3 copies. The vr is fantastic like you say.
Watching this video again in 2021! I have the 200 -500 f5.6 and love it!! I get great shots with it but the AF a little slow so i just got the 500F5.6 PF lens. that lens is SWEET!
I was just asking about the same thing on a different video! I was about to pull the trigger on the 200-500 but had some feedback from two people who own the G2 that it is a different beast from the G1 and to take a look...I'm skeptical as I've never detracted from a Nikon lens and the G2 is only 4 months old and I'm wondering what the review would look like from Ken and not some of the other stuff I've googled!
Help I need some advice. My Camera is a Nikon D810. I have a Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD A005, SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD, SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD, Nikon Nikkor 24-85mm f1: 2.8-4D IF Macro Aspherical. I am trying to decide between the Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC G2 or the Nikkor 200-500MM f5.6.Out of these two which would you suggest?
Hey buddy, Im so happy to watch this video since I just purchase this lens 2 days ago! Will be arriving on Thursday ! Cant wait ! Btw quick question.. What would be a good adapter for the monopod to use with this lens, specially to shoot vertically and then horizontally ..?
the VR on it is so damn good its really IMPOSSIBLE. ohh you just unlock the colar on the lens to do verticals, so just a standard monopod. snag the best for the $$$ SURUI 326 $100 carbon fiber pod :)
I really love your reviews on this lens, buttttttt, how about the new Tamron 150-600 (being weather sealed)? I have a D500...and slightly in doubt with the new introduction of Tamron. By the way...what issue did they have with the 200-500 you refer to? Thx señor 😃
I truly love your reviews. I'd love to see a review on this lens vs. the Tamron 150-600 G2. I looking for a telephoto that's in this price range and would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers!
Shit your getting me tempted to sell my four month old 80-400mm for this lens. Mostly shoot birds in Florida with my D500. BH will give me $1000 for the 80-400. Going to take a hit on the 200-500 and hit on the 80-400mm. Hope it's worth the hit.
Hey Ken, in your opinion, would this lens be just as good on a mid range DX DSLR (Thinking the Nikon D3400 or D5500) or would you only spend the cash on it if it was going on a D7000 series body or higher?
Thank you for the information on the 200-500mm, but I also have a question this to the Nikon 80-400mm D lens Is this lens also a recommendation for Birth shooting or going for the 200-500mm Nikon. thanks for your advice.
Hi Ken, I have a few questions if you don't mind. What do I need to know or ask about before buy second hand bodies (stuff like shutter count and how it affects the camera), specifically the D3 or D800?
I wish to get more into portraits and street. Other than that just generally walk around camera. But since you mention the d800e I think it's given to be the d3 due to budget. right now I have the d610 and with a bit of luck I may be able to make more than my money back. about the second part. What are important things to take into account about a bosy when you buy second hand?
Without a doubt a lens I will add to my collection when funds allow 😃 By the way Ken I'm escaping the UK and visiting Florida for 2 weeks ( should arrive late tomorrow all being well ), I remember you raving about Star fruit, any advise, I'm gonna try to buy some while there 😀
Hi! I have a question about this lens. I just got this and a D500. At first I did Wonder that I made a mowe with my hand in the moment that I took the pivture cause the scuare that shows the focus point seemd to jump to the right, up or Down. Now I know the Whole Picture jumps and it is ony in the wr mode.Is it supose to do this or does I make my Pictures less good? When I take a fast serie Pictures the Object moves in the frame from Picture to Picture. Sorry for the bad english Language.
I bought the 300 PF ED instead of the 200-500, why - it is so easy to carry togheter with my 20/1.8, 35/1.8 and 85/1.8 without braking my back. Have you tested the 300 PF ED?
I'm renting the 300 PF at the end of the month along with the D500. Steve Perry loves it. How do you like it? I talked to a guy at a surfing competition and he was shooting the 200-500. He said it was a great lens, although not the fastest. He also said its only good outside.
strongandco i've owned a low end 70-300 sigma and it broke. fuck that. im not too sure about the high ends. i hear picture quality is good, but from ken the life of the lens isnt great... im not willing to take the chance.
I'd love to buy the 200-500, but it's out of my price range. I've been looking at the Tamron 150-600 since you can find it used for $750. What are your thoughts on that lens (I'll use it for wildlife and some outdoor action sports)
I know the VR is perfect. I have both lenses to my dispossal and i take the 300mm prime over the 200-500 for birding on a crop sensor ofcourse. It smoke's the 200-500 Altough Nikon did a very good job on the 200-500. Can't denie that.
