I still got mine, I got it in late -88 and it´s one of the coolest cameras ever. I really like the layout and practicality. To bad they opted for the mechanic AF-coupling instead of the elctric motors in the lens that came out on top. I have been shooting Nikon ever since the F4 and now I´ve got he Z9 wich I feel have almost the same ruggedness.

Occasionally going back to the F4 will bring back the memory of the 80's. I highly recommend it. Who needs autofocus anyway. I like to take my time, think, set up, change my mind and then shoot. Anythign quicker, I dont find satisfying.

I had a F4 but was stolen😢. In my opinion it is the most beautiful camera ever designed. I could never get the same joy and involvement with my F5 than with F4. Now I am considering an F3 or FM3a. Thank you for amazing videos about the F series. I will be waiting for one on the FM3a😂

Why not another F4? Too expensive? FM3a is wonderful but unfortunately we don't have one. Our FM2n is similar and is on the list of future videos. But the very next one is going to be Canon F-1.

@TechHeritage I just got a mint FA with 24mm 2m8 AI-s for about $150. I will settle for that in the meantime. I want to go more mechanical and less hig tech. FM2 would be ideal, but I will save up for a FM3a.

I had an F4s for about a year but I'm (definitely) not a pro-photographer. For this reason I mostly used the 'auto' setting (which still gave me good results in non-challenging environments [i.e. decent lighting]). When I used a Metz flash (on a bracket) I also got decent photographs in darker places like pubs/nightclubs. Due to its huge weight I traded it in for (deep breath) a Canon EOS5 which was a piece of plastic rubbish. Now in my old age (63) I have two Nikons (F2AS and F2S) which I enjoy when I can, but disability limits this. Love your images of Manchester by the way - I live not too far away (J18-M6). Thanks for your detailed and excellent reviews.

Nikon F2 should partly make up for the loss of your F4. FYI I bought the F4 from London Camera Exchange in Manchester. It was a very cold day and rained most of the day.

F4 review in 2024? The LCD is small and hard to read when it works. AA batteries, wow they are heavy and most have leaked in the battery pack. Replacements packs seem to be hard to find. Why does the film wind back into the container? There seems to be so many things that can fail but so far none that will stop it from working. Kinda glad they went with the F5 design for digital use.

Of course you are at least 95% right. Here we are all about the Technology Heritage and its progression through the generations. Nikon F4 has a very special place, paving the way for many technologies which were later perfected. You need to be a film camera enthusiast to appreciate its historic value. Otherwise we can all live happily with the latest iPhone camera and never look back. Don't you agree?

I'm glad to hear that you are still using and appreciating your F4. I hope the LCD is still working. What did you think of the video? A fair review?

@@TechHeritage the LCD is in mint condition. I was really shocked that it was. I bought an FG and THAT is inmost condition as well. Thats my everyday camera. Also have my uncles Nikon N8008. Killer cameras. The video was awesome! So well explained the parts and function of the camera. No wonder I subscribed. Instantly subscribed to your channel.

What an incredibly informative, entertaining and neatly filmed look at the F4. Thank you! Liked and subscribed 😁👍 Any chance you'll do one for the F6?

Ugly but efficient
@TechHeritage

Efficient , yet, but I am not so sure about the description of Ugly. Numerous camera lovers and reviewers including myself find the F4 design a great leap forward by Giugiaro and quite elegant and timeless.

@@TechHeritageHum it feels a little plasticky (like f801, f90 of the same generation) and with a lot of protuberances. For me it s the least beautiful of the professionnal line for Nikon but I admit it s purely subjective. I love the canon t90 that a lot of people hate :). Another point, at that time Canon delivered the EOS 1 (you should make a video on it)very smooth, with less buttons and a super handling. When you hold it it seems a perfect addition to your hand. When we see what Nikon did with the F5 , it seems Canon was right…

Anyway very good video well explained. And one good thing too you retire you famous black gloves… it s far better like that. It s just a pity you present this high level camera with a very economic (but good) lens , the 50mm afd f1.8… I am not sure a lot of professionals used this lens. The 85mm f1.4 or at least the 35mm f2 would have been far better :).

FYI, I usually use the smallest (physically smallest) lenses for the Camera demonstrations because it is easier to handle and does not complicate the message. I am not doing lens reviews yet. That is a subject for another day. We have too many lenses to cover in these already long videos.

@@TechHeritage ok understood. You have - but I am pretty sure you already nko this - on Nikon site an history part with good explanations on the most famous/ innovative lenses.
