Nikon is making me more hopeful. When their AF catches up with Canon and Sony and they improve their IBIS ( or is it already very good?) I could be a new customer.
@Joelsfilmer
@Joelsfilmer 11 месяцев назад
The AF of the ZF, Z8 and Z9 is very competitive, and I haven't heard anything bad about the IBIS.
@pseudoryx9284
@pseudoryx9284 11 месяцев назад
Their IBIS has never considered "fallen behind". In fact, in some comparisons their Synchro VR + 180-600mm blows Sony 200-600mm out of the water. The AF is not necessarily better, but it's definitely competitive. Their big drawback at the moment is that most of these improvements still need time to trickle down to lower-end bodies.

Doesn't Nikon have pretty much the best stabilization on the (full frame) market? And the Zf is even rated at 8 stops with the IBIS alone

The AF was always great on Nikon. It was trying to add subject recognition (SR) which they struggled with. From firmware to firmware update the AFSR has got better and better. You need a Z9 (which is expensive but great) to use it. Hopefully that will shuffle down quickly through the line up. Personally I don’t worry about how it ‘compares’ anyway. How it compares only counts if you are worried about what other people think of the status of your camera gear. Don’t worry about that, focus on the resulting images. How do the photos compare? If no one tells you which camera and lens they use for a shot does it matter? Nope.

Am i correct this lens has an extra stop of stability over the 800 6.3? That combined with the smaller size/weight of this lens has me ready to pre order the 600.

Why on gods green earth would you not use the lens hood, especially in the rain where the element is getting wet when it doesn't need to be! Wasn't hot because you have a coat on, so no heat getting trapped with the lens hood on! Please explain!

I was looking at the 600mm but when I saw the results from the 180-600 I grabbed it instead, and the money I saved paid for half of my Z 800mm, which is now my favourite lens. Super light, fits in a carry-on bag and is easily handheld.

To me, this stacks up very closely with the Olympus 300mm f/4 PRO, which is 1270g. Up 'til now there's not really been any similar competitor at its 600mm equivalent. It's extremely impressive that they've been able to make such a light and compact 600mm for full frame!

I'd like to see how it handles small bright light sources, such as the headlights on a car. This would be a great lens for motorsport, but if you get ugly flare, like you do on the 'old' 300mm PF, then it's not a lens I would consider. If Nikon have fixed that issue, if it's even possible to do so, then this could be a really interesting lens for me. I'd like to see someone test that

It's an incredibly light lens. Yes, it's about 3 lbs, but that's way way lighter than you'd expect a 600mm to be. When we get our hands on a production model, I'd be curious to see how it does on the sidelines of a soccer (football) field without a monopod.

Hey DPreview presenter, you really do need to get out of the city and somewhere with MUCH more interesting subjects. From my point of view if I am restricted to F6.3 I am pretty sure I would be much happier if I had the flexibility of a zoom. 600 F5.6 on a prime is the ideal entry level.

DX crop on the Z8/Z9 serves that purpose

@@scotttucker9613 Sure, that's true, but it does defeats multiple reasons to go with a crop body. Body size, lens size (again Nikon falling short here with DX lenses), and pixel density. I could get greater pixel density with my ten year old Nikon D7100 than a Z9 in DX mode.

See the TC range. 400 F2.8TC and the 600F4TC - nice fast lenses. OR the 135 F1.8 Plena. I have kept my 300 F2.8 it’s just as good as it has always been, but I am sure they will add a Z version - when they have reached the stage when they have finished dealing with other things.
@DamonMoritz
@DamonMoritz 11 месяцев назад
@@MGriff-q1i My older F-mount lenses are sure showing signs of wear. I have the Plena, but that won't help on the football field. What I need is a good all purpose 300 F/2.8 that doesn't cost as much as a used car. Enough with the slow telephotos. The 400 TC is an awesome lens, but not only is it insanely expensive, but it's also almost impossible to get. That's because there is a strong market for fast, prime, telephotos. They need to deal with this now. Convert us all from F-mount once and for all.

Welcome to the internet. A thumbnail is a picture representing a web-click. The thumbnail used here is of a camera and lens. A camera takes pictures and video, and the lens attached to the camera is the optical glass that sets the frame of what's photographed or filmed.
