I was hoping for this for awhile as there are so few video-centric reviews or first impressions of the Zf, and it is much more capable than it gets credit for! I rented the zf recently, and I also "rented" the smallrig grip from Amazon. It completely changes the handling and general user-experience. I highly recommend picking it up if you are going to review the camera any further... Great video as always!

@@Josh_Sattin any pointers for exposing LOG outside? I see 2 stops over a lot, but let me know if there’s a better way to go about this using the Nikon Zebras or waveform. I have a z8 and am getting away from SDR video. Thanks again brother!

All seriousness great review. I’d love to start seeing the image quality but in a form factor that fits in a fanny pack like a Ricoh or pocket 3. Anything bigger uses bigger lenses and will less likely be used for casual users. Great image.

Been debating swapping my S5IIX for a Zf just to consolidate my setup onto one mount (as I already shoot a Z9 for wildlife/landscapes etc). Looks like it might be a reasonable option, and have the added bonus of being a fun platform for street photos and retro lenses 🤔 In terms of the grip - I don't find these sorts of designs too uncomfortable provided they're on a neck strap. I actually quite like that sorta grip design as it makes it easier to hold the camera in odd ways 😅

Oh, and I'd be curious to know how you found it in terms of heat dissipation. It doesn't get very hot here in Wales but it takes me ages to get a good take 😆 The Z9 seemingly runs forever when I've shot video with it, but it does have a much larger body.

Right. I’ve been thinking about the same thing. Love the aesthetics and z mount. But concerned about long videos, it will definitely overheat, plus real time luts on lumix are so nice 😢 Nikon have to implement this kind of film simulations.

Nikon's view assist is the worst for ETTR. I wish they would provide an ETTR View Assist option, or just let you load your own LUTs for monitoring. Great review! I'm new to your channel and you're quickly becoming one of my favorites!

I didn't get to test out the Z8 as much as you would have liked so I don't have a good sense of the Z8's IBIS. Also, I would definitely want to do a fair side by side before commenting on the two cameras. Sorry, but I can't give you an answer on that.

i am sad about 40 mbps for 4k 10 bit. It's may be a powerfull compact video camera, but video specs like sony cheapest camera

I would say all cameras are much the same in similar price points these days. Apart from Canon, all companies use Sony sensors customized for their color science. It's the glass where the differences shine (based on preferences).
