Me, too. I wonder what happened to Ellis Dupuy, their resident drummer. The guy's fantastic and sorely missed here. It still works really well without; it sounds maybe a bit more atmospheric like this, with a slight Cocteau Twins vibe. But Jazzy Bobby is such a fantastically skilled multi-instrumentalist, that she could easily pull off some percussive chops on her keyboard, while also playing her sax and the keyboard leads and chords. Still hoping to see Ellis back with them, though.
@@ivanl.8201 Jazzi plays the sax quite well, and her background vocals are divine, but she clearly doesn't know how to play the keyboard - her parts are incredibly basic, she flubs chords while playing live all the time, etc. She almost certainly started teaching herself keyboard just to accompany Nilüfer live.
@@poissonpuerile8897 Maybe I haven't paid as much attention. Texture-wise speaking, she certainly knows how to pick the right keyboards. I recall her using a Prophet in one the live "Safety Net" performances. The tone was just absolutely warm and perfect for the song, in spite of her playing simple melodies. Also that Korg Prologue she also uses is a really wonderful sounding board (wish I had the $$$ for it), and I'm sure it'd make my own mediocre keyboard skills seem good :). Jazzi's very creative however, and I really liked her mucking about with all the pedals at the end of the KEXP "Midnight Sun" performance. Felt like watching Slowdive or Sonic Youth for a while. It was really neat what she did, but I do think your point may be right on, now that I've looked a bit closer.
