KEXP.ORG presents Nils Frahm performing "Says" live in the KEXP studio. Recorded September 26, 2013. Host: Kevin Cole Audio Engineer: Julian Martlew Cameras: Jim Beckmann, Luke Knecht & Justin Wilmore Editor: Jim Beckmann kexp.org
Love the passion. For any young musicians out there, take note. Nothing he is doing is technically difficult, you could get to this level of proficiency in a few years. But he is completely absorbed in the music, totally transported and elevated into another dimension, and that depth of spirit comes through even with such a simple composition as this. If you can feel your music under your skin, in your bones and deep within your soul with consistency and devotion until you completely merge with it you will be able to move an audience and you can be a professional musician. Soooo many musicians, probably 99.9% focus on mastery and technique while forgetting to develop their musical soul. You can go your whole life as a musician in this way and never learn to express your truest self. People are impressed but secretly bored by such performances. The book to read is Effortless Mastery by Kenny Warner. Music is supposed to be a spiritual experience. Never forget that.
Seeing this video 2-3 years ago took me all the way to watching him live in Edinburgh last night. His music sucks you in, mesmerises you and immerses you in a deep pool of creative emotion! Such a talent. So beautiful.
fender Rhoads electric piano Roland Juno 60 synth Roland chorus echo (the weird box that Nils sticks his hand in to sometimes) Electroharmonix #1 echo (the pedal on the Juno) Moog moogerfooger ring modulator (the fancy looking pedal on the Roland chorus echo) and of course the most important piece of gear: Nils cheers, I'm a gearslut
This is soo true 👌👌 you suddenly forget all your problems and are taken away by this beauty which shakes you from deep within capturing all your senses giving that wow feeling its pure love and bliss. ... makes you want to live around and see more of such beauty.. 👌👌
Everytime this piece reaches the changes chords and the filters open up I begin to cry uncontrolled. It‘s not that I connect something special with this piece; I just discovered it recently. It is just able to touch something deep deep inside. What a gem.
Shivers down the spine in anticipation. It's a good job those chords at the end don't go on for much longer as I'm the same - an emotional wreck every time!
RU-vid was just shuffling on my home speaker and this track came along I literally stopped my work when to my PC to see who the heck is this guy playing this golden music. Well done Nils first time I heard of you but I'm sure glad I did.
I love how the host begins to talk casually just after the performance finishes as if something extraordinary, outworldly and utterly breathtaking did not take place one fraction of a second before
If you listen closely he is trying really hard to stay composed. That deep breath he took and fluctuations in his voice especially near the end. Having Nils Frahm next to you in the studio doing a live performance Says a lot. He remained professional though, only just.
Yes! Saw him for the first time in March, I bought my ticket for the next show soon after, my brother even went to new york the next night to see him again!
Got tix for a show in Dec! Can't wait, just come across him only a few weeks ago - bought another for one of my friends to tag along but whichever end up coming I'm not sure they'll appreciate it as much they should if they're not into his stuff in the first place..
This is nothing short of fucking amazing. I honestly don't know of a more emotive piece of music that I've come across. It destroys me each and every time I listen to it.
Ryan Carpenter | Speaking of nine... I was in cloud 9 from start to finish. As soon as it ended I fell through the non-solid gaseous cloud back into reality.
This recording and video is so good. I I find myself returning to listen to it time and time again. KEXP have good quality content through and through. The hosts does a fenomenal job when presenting the music and when there are interview segments the questions show that they know their stuff and have a genuine interest in the artist they are presenting/interviewing.
This has been living in my head rent free for a while now. It’s taken this long to even attempt to convey what it makes me feel like since it’s almost like nothing else. The images this keeps bringing up for me though is a test pilot about to push the limits of his prototype. 0:07 to 3:37 - Pilot is getting briefed, checking the plane over, reviewing footage "yeah, I saw what happened there", checking fitness.. "OK. deep breath".. 3:38 to 5:27 - Getting into the plane, doing start up checks, "thats a lot of warning lights and sounds". "OK we're good, just a little bug it seems". getting things up to temperature, lining up on the runway and then giving it the beans to take off.. 5:28 to 7:38 - ..and up we go. Climbing hard, getting ready to push that top speed. Going up, there’s shudders and noises but nothing that hasn’t been there before. "Man, it's so amazing up here. Never gets old".. "Ok, that noise was new. Probably something to check out, so do we turn back?" 7:39 to 8:56 "No way. We're here now. Pedal to the metal, it’s make or break". The speed just keeps climbing, and climbing. Passing the previous best. Things are getting weird, noises not heard before.. "Just keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Can't go back. Keep going." Speed has all about stopped rising at this moment, just ticking up now and again.. "Keep going. Gotta push it. Keep going. Keep going. COME ON YOU BASTARD GIVE ME SOMETHING MORE! Keep going… Gotta.. Keep… Goi.." 8:57 ….. too far.
Every time I listen I hear something more impressive and beautiful. Still unsure which of these live performances is my favourite between this, BBC and Montreux Jazz fest...
Heard this live last year, best experience I've ever had, probably no concert that I go to in the future will beat the concert from Nils Frahm I went to, an emotional rollercoaster
I had listened to this before a couple of times, but tonight for the first time I LISTENED and WATCHED and paid attention to the layers on top of layers of this masterpiece, and I have to say, I was blown away, felt like the last couple of time I didn’t even know what I was listening to. That transition at 7:18 is magical, heavenly. Highly recommend to listen 2-3 times back to back!
Yeah you literlaly HAVE TO do that to create music like this. Any music that is emotional and passionate CAN NOT be made while you're sat there twiddling your thumbs mindlessly. :)
Seeing his fingers tremble and his face contort adds so much depth to the experience of this; there’s nothing quite like watching someone put every ounce of energy they can into plumbing the depths of their soul and exposing it to the world. 7:40 had me in tears. Incredible
This is such an awesome track! I wanted to share it with friends but I realized none would get it :-( It has a such a deep sad feeling in it, just like the movie Ad Astra, a very long journey that ends in madness and tragedy.
I love how simple this is musically...basically just an apreggiated root, fifth, and minor third, but then he just builds vamps over the top and makes it his own creation that clearly captures something special.
There is always this moment where you just realize that there is something, a tiny bit at times, which makes a piece of music stand out. This tiny bit can mean the whole world.
... this took me in and spat me out covered in tears and feathers and clouds... whish it never ends... and it's like that every single time for years now...
C’est du génie ! Il y a eu bcp de fondateurs de son et de musique sur la planète et ce à n’importe quelles époques et je pense que Nils frahm en fait partie ! Merci pour ta puissance musicale !
Agree it hurts. I never want to hear it again. Is there any way I can cleanse myself of this toxin? It is awful. There is very little music, but a whole whole bunch of drama. I gotta go I'm goin to throw up
i cannot say , what this sound makes with me , i am so deeply touched inside , i cannot find the right words am so thankful that a human being can inspirienst to makes such music i must cry , wow
Where is the "in love and head over heels" button for me to click for this video? I only saw a "like" button which does not even begin to describe how I feel about Nil's compositions...he is massively gifted! I have selfishly been playing his albums on shuffle for nearly a month now in my mind-body classes (LOL!). My students **love** its zen, transcendental, and energizing qualities...I am officially a fan of this artist forever!
Cosmic depth. Mystery of familiarity of infinity. Touching the untouchable understanding of the nameless emotion of the faceless beginningless primordial spirit.
Yesterday I discovered Nils. Today I am trying to describe what I feel when I listen to this song. It's like something has reached me, deep down inside of me. Like a window to the past, maybe even my childhood. A moment where you are a child and can see things in the most clean and beautiful ways. I'm glad that I still have that spark in me, and thank you very much Nils for reminding me about that.
Man I dig this guy so much, dig his style, dig his music, dig his fucking attitude. A friend showed me this masterpiece some times ago. Really listening to it gives the absolute chillest mood. It really sinks in my mind, drives my brain. You're beyond godlike.
Jean michel jarre would be proud, this is how to make music. No laptop and some arrangements piece of software. This is how tangerine dream, jean michel jarre, brian eno, klaus schultze makes music still today. Thanks for keeping the original way alive
just out of this world. My imagination slowy and gently danced, weaved though my mind and flew with this music. Out of this world. Nils, your a genius. Thank you for sharing.
I love this guy! Simply otherworldly. And the nature of live manipulation and performance shows bucket loads of talent and concentration. It’s my favorite way of doing this as well . But he is without a doubt the “ King of the Swing “ for sure ! Elegance and simplicity go hand in hand. Peace Christo👽🛸☮️🎶🐕
Mattydigs "after in rainbows?" you mean you followed the plot their entire career, and don't quite "follow" their very last album TKOL? So that amounts to "fuck radiohead" - Jesus Christ.
This is increadible! Just when i think ive hears it all! This channel is like a music festival at home which I dont have to pay a ridiculous fee to see, and i can watch it anytime. Subscribed!
One of these experiences .. where you realise ... this is something that exists already 4 years, and I have just recently discovered it .... unbelievable ...
He is amazing. How you can master making something so repetitive not sound boring or losing interest. That's a gift. Minus all the other amazing minor aspects of his talent. Brilliant
