Recently bought a new record player, one that connects with my Mac, but have had too much fun playing my old vinyl LPs and singles to check out how rhe connection works. Anyway: the first album I played was Nils Lofgrens solo debut - the darling of my vast collection. Saw him live in Stockholm at about this time, and my heart almost stopped. Pure bliss and happiness! Was at the opening night of the 1976 tour with TP supporting, at the Capitol, Cardiff. Both bands were epic. Saw Nils in Cheltenham Town hall about 10 year ago. Still great.
Saw NILS LOFGRIN at the Cow Palace, san francisco, calif in mid 77, the first band was STARCASTLE and the headliner was the band BOSTON,on there first tour,,,NILS was promoting I came to dance,,,
@clean3 I'm afraid it's true. I'm a big Lofgren fan (obvious seeing as I put up this video), but it's a generally accepted fact by anyone who saw this tour that Tom Petty & Heartbreakers stole the show as the opening act. Nobody had heard of TP&THB when this tour opened in Cardiff, but he was encour hailed until Lofgren appeared. Petty also played at the WDR studios and I've posted one of his numbers from that show up here.
Saw Nils at the Cowpalace in San Francisco, Ca. this was one of the Songs i listened to in the 1970s, remember 8 Tracks, the band Boston was the Headliner and Starcastle was opening the Gig,DaveK Blog: vintagetourjackets
i saw the tour in Glasgow Petty was great but Nils was true class and in no way had the show stolen from him. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand.
Saw him at Leeds Uni during this tour - and remained a fan for many years..Have to admit that his support on the night, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, blew him away! Big mistake making Tom your warm-up band!!
Mind you saying that, as a 14 year old seeing your first ever live band I remember thinking after Tom Petty finished that this live music lark is really quite good.
