I was working at circuit city when this woman asked for help on a camcorder. I said “ you look like Nina Hagen” she replied “I am Nina Hagen”! I’ll never forget what an epic moment that was. She was so awesome.
From 1971 to today, Nina Hagen has made parents ask their children, “What the hell are you listening to??” 😍🤩❤️ *edited on December 7, 2023 …and makes some children ask their parents, “What the hell are you listening to??”
My old boss was a fan of Nina, anytime he was down or stressed I'd just like shake him and go "WE ARE GOING TO ANOTHER DISCO."...that usually did the trick and got him to laugh.
This video was shot in New York Live - she doesn't lip sync - I knew Karl Rucker who died in 2016 after a brief battle with cancer - he was an amazing man - had could play any instrument he picked up. Nina and Karl where roommates for 8 years in NYC. Very nice man. I wish they left this version on the record - Nina is amazing. A genius with delayed vocals and she was an opera prodigy at the age of 9 years old.
This is amazing . Before Madonna, before Gaga....there was NINA HAGEN. Amazing artist , singer , songwriter and so unique . Only Grace Jones goes along with Hagen .
Nina does something very few modern artists do. She moves to her music in a completely non self conscious, non choreographed way. She embodies it in the moment.
She was brilliantly clever music wise. People don't even know how clever she was, just see her acting crazy, facial contortions ,voice doing verbal acrobatics and they think she was just some chaotic off the cuff kook. It was all part of the Nina stage persona ..She was brilliant. She was so much more punk ,then some punks that claimed to be back then. She did punk in her own very unique way. And you cannot get much more punk then that. Only now when I'm much older, I am really appreciating her more.
I love Nina Hagen, I had the pleasure of meeting her - and spending an entire evening with her - she was very approachable - treated me like she knew me forever, she isn't kidding when she says it's always late at night when she wants to go out, we hit Gay Bar after Gay Bar from 10:30pm - 4:00am - I still keep in touch with her. She's a great lady, very kind and generous - it was worth being out that late - I didn't sleep that night - I just went to work @5:00am - I was tired - but like I said again - it was so worth it. :)
A años luz de las que se consideran "artistas" hoy en día.... dentro de 20 años pones esta canción y te sigue gustando..... la calidad es es la calidad.
I believe that Nina Hagen has one of the most versatile singing voices up to date. Given that I don't about whether or not she had formal vocal training, Nina's vocal range and her ability to adapt her voice is nothing short of phenomenal.
Everyone says “Oh she had opera training”. Of course she did… But her voice is also extraordinary, the opera training just gave her mastery over her talent.
She was the first woman in music I remember to admire. I was 8 years old, when I first heard this song on the radio, back in 1983. I was mesmerized. I asked my mother to buy the LP “Fearless” and I still have it. After Nina, I began to admire women with exquisite looks, like Annie Lennox and Siouxsie Sioux. Thanks for sharing this video!
Nina was our Goddess in the early 80's-saw her at the Wiltern in LA-where Anthony Keidis from Chili Peppers jumped on stage in that HUGE fake fur purple coat-and they did "What It Is"....Awww-now those were FUN days. Gaga does not have a fraction of Hagen's talent, she's already being forgotten. Hagen-I was born in xixax-no, I really was born 6/6/66, always was my song!
I was presented to her on lbiza twice when I was on holiday. She was my biggest idol when I was 13-14. Little did I know that I was going to make dresses for her some few years later when I moved to Ibiza. We made some nice photo shots of her on the beach. She's a nice lady, but she did have her days when you preferred to stay far away from her. 😂 She always had an majestic air around her. The tourists made big faces an I was in heaven. Nice memories ❤
Nina Hagen and Kate Bush, using their voices as instruments like no one before or after them. We were so lucky, those of us who were kids to 20 something in the 80s.
Lindoooooooooooooo!
Vale a pena ouvir.
Essa geração continuou e continua ouvindo-a n internet, tanto qto ouvem Marilyn Manson e The Clash.
This joint was the shiznit back in the clubs in to 80's. This shit STILL holds up after all these years. And I STILL love me some Nina Hagen. This woman put weirdness on the map. GaGa ain't got SHIT on Nina!!
I cant believe I found this song...I haven't heard this song since 1983, at a random disco in Orlando Fl.!! It was quite outer worldly, but I was intrigued.
Remember driving down Greenville Ave in Dallas back when this was out and seeing the video on a screen from a place called the Video Bar or something like that. I stopped in the street to see who it was by.
Used to dance to this track and Born in Xiaxax at the 321 Club in Santa Monica waaaaay back in the day in the 80s....anyone out there remember that great club??? I'm 50 now, and I can't remember a lot of what has happened between now and then, but those memories back in the 80s are safe in the vault. I can still smell cloves in the air as we waited in line!
No where near the talent NH has! Gaga is just ok. She's like a vessel traveling through whatever she does! BLuuuuueeeeeh! Saw Gaga live, meh! Doing Vegas residency? The ching chingers losing money can throw her to the lions! And quite easily.
